Chapter 204
Chapter 204
Zoey switched into work mode. "Name."
"Nicolette."
"Your relationship with Cecilia."
"Roommate."
Zoey continued, "Your other two roommates said you and Cecilia didn't get along."
"That's right." Nicolette's face twisted with displeasure at the mention of Cecilia. "Who would want to get along with her?"
"Explain."
Nicolette seemed to find an outlet for her grievances and began to spill everything. "Cecilia is a total leech. She thinks smoking is a big deal and smokes in our dorm all the time! I told her to stop, but she wouldn't listen. We got into a fight, and Katerina warned her. So, she started smoking behind my back, but it didn't work. I could still smell it when I came back."
"That's just her personal issues. She even had the nerve to film me without my consent. I know they don't like me, so I try to avoid them, but it doesn't help. They hid a phone in the bathroom to secretly film me! When I found out, I didn't care whose phone it was—I flushed it down the toilet! Trash belongs in the sewer!"
"I can still remember how furious she was. It was so satisfying."
Alexander thought, just like someone he knew.
"And then?"
"Oh, there's more. I'm sure they've told you. Playing music in the middle of the night... If I can't sleep, no one can. If they hate sleep so much, why not listen to music all night?"
Alexander noticed she hadn't mentioned the key point and prompted, "What about driving away Cecilia's friends?"
"Driving away? Is that what they told you? Did they also say I'm unreasonable?" Nicolette sneered. "I wanted to call the cops! Why didn't they tell you that Cecilia brought a guy into our dorm?"
Alexander was taken aback. "A guy?"
"Yeah! Why else would I kick him out?" Nicolette fumed. "Cecilia is disgusting. Even if they wanted to be friends, I wouldn't hang out with them. She brought her boyfriend into our dorm and had sex! Can you believe it? Why wouldn't I kick them out? If her family is poor, she should find a rich guy to help out or become a prostitute to support her family."
"Is she that poor, having sex in the girls' dorm? One day, I came back and almost had a heart attack. I opened the door and saw them naked, with the guy's penis inside Cecilia. They were going at it like no one else was there."
"You know what's the worst? If it was just the two of them, I might have tolerated it. But guess what? Theodosia and Violette were in the dorm too! They were on their beds, looking at their phones with headphones on, pretending not to see or hear anything. But the room is so small, how could they not hear? Of course, I kicked them out. Just thinking about Cecilia's bed makes me sick."
Zoey said, "Kicking them out was wrong. You should've filmed them and broadcast it to the whole school!"
Alexander was speechless.
Nicolette and Zoey hit it off. "Why didn't I think of that? Such a good idea, but it's too late now. Anyway, Cecilia is dead."
She didn't forget to praise Zoey. "Zoey, you're so smart!"
Zoey smiled modestly.
The two didn't seem like a cop and a suspect at all.
Alexander, with a gentle smile, continued, "Tell us about the acid and the nails in the shoes."
"They should've told you. I'm the only one not majoring in fashion design. We're a mixed dorm, and I study chemistry. It's normal for me to have some acid around. I was curious about the reaction between skincare products and acid, so I put some in the dorm to observe. What's wrong with that? And the nails, what's the big deal? But how did you know I put acid in my skincare products?"
Alexander asked, "So, you had no idea Theodosia was using your lotion and Cecilia was wearing your shoes?"
Nicolette's cunning was on full display, a perfect actress. "What? They did all that behind my back? Gross!"
Alexander continued, "You didn't put the nails in the shoes, and they cut your shoes. Why didn't you ask for compensation?"
Nicolette took a deep breath, realizing the question. She avoided Zoey's gaze. "I have a lot of shoes, some I don't wear for months. Losing a pair without noticing is normal."
"Shoes aren't easily damaged. From Cecilia's group's perspective, they wanted to annoy you, so they chose shoes you wear often. That's the logic, right?"
Alexander's words reminded her of her frequently worn shoes. Thinking of Cecilia getting her comeuppance, she felt secretly pleased but pretended not to know. "I really didn't know. Now that you mention it, I'll check. If they're valuable, I'll report it and demand compensation!"
Alexander had no choice but to change the subject. "Where were you between 3 and 5 PM today?"
Nicolette replied, "I went to an art exhibit. I love painting, so I skipped gym class. There's a record of me taking the subway, and the exhibit was big, so there must be surveillance. That should be my alibi, right?"
Alexander said, "Nicolette, the suspect's alibi isn't the evidence we're considering in this case."
"What do you mean?" Nicolette looked at them in surprise. "How did Cecilia die?"
Zoey said, "Take a guess."
Nicolette didn't hold back. "I think she was so annoying someone must've stabbed her! Hahaha." Realizing it wasn't appropriate to laugh, she restrained herself. "Ahem, based on what you said, if the alibi doesn't matter, she must've been poisoned, right? Someone gave her poison or cyanide?"
She hit the nail on the head.
Alexander and Zoey exchanged a glance.
