Chapter 201

Chapter 201

Zoey rolled her eyes, "You guys are really something else."

She hated it when someone messed with her sleep. It was her biggest pet peeve.

Violette, noticing Zoey's irritation, felt a bit guilty and spoke more softly, "It's not that bad, really. Anyway, I didn't do any of it. It was all Cecilia. I was just there to cheer her on, maybe hand her something if she needed it."

"So, you and Theodosia were just playing Cecilia's sidekicks, huh?"

Violette was taken aback, "No, that's not fair..."

"Not fair?" Zoey scoffed.

Alexander chimed in, "What you did is called being an accomplice in criminal law."

Violette was speechless. "I'm not an accomplice. I didn't do anything! Seriously, you can ask Theodosia! We were just there, keeping Cecilia's secrets. We hardly did anything ourselves. We didn't cause Nicolette any real harm. You can check!"

Zoey retorted, "Cecilia's dead, so of course, you can blame everything on her."

"She's dead, but Nicolette's alive, right? You can ask her! She'll back us up!"

"Nicolette?" Zoey suddenly remembered something, "Oh right, Theodosia mentioned you secretly filmed Nicolette, and she found out. Is that true?"

Violette froze, her face changing instantly, "And she calls herself a friend, what a backstabber!"

Zoey turned to Alexander, "See? If they start cursing, it's usually true."

Alexander took note, "Got it."

Violette was exasperated.

She tried to calm herself down, "Yes, I filmed her, but it was because Cecilia asked me to. I didn't know what she wanted to do with it, and I swear I didn't share the video with anyone else. It was just for Cecilia to see! Nicolette found out after a few clips, but I didn't use the video for anything."

"Besides, even if the video had gotten out and someone made something inappropriate with it, that wasn't me. It was all Cecilia." Violette kept blaming others.

She was just helping out.

To Zoey, this was as good as a confession, "Have you ever seen a cheerleader pass the ball in a soccer game? Only teammates can pass the ball."

Violette was speechless.

She was tired of answering and adopted a nonchalant attitude, "This whole thing blew up, the teachers knew, and they warned me. I haven't done anything like that since. I was afraid of getting penalized! So what do you want now? I don't get it. Aren't you here to find out about Cecilia? Why bring up me filming Nicolette? What does that have to do with anything?"

Zoey replied, "Just answer our questions as we ask them."

Violette was exasperated.

Alexander reviewed his notes, looking for anything they might have missed.

He glanced over and continued, "You mentioned earlier that Nicolette was difficult to deal with. In what ways specifically?"

Violette relaxed a bit, glad the focus was off her, "She was tough. Most people, if they felt isolated, would get insecure and question everything. But not Nicolette. She was even tougher than Cecilia, a real hard case."

"For example, if Cecilia brought friends over to our dorm and Nicolette didn't like it, she'd start yelling. If that didn't work, she'd grab their stuff and throw them out! She didn't care what anyone thought. One time, she accidentally hit me, and it hurt a lot... not to mention how many times she hit Cecilia's friends. Just thinking about it hurts."

"And Nicolette would go to bed at ten, but Cecilia liked to stay up late, sometimes chatting with her boyfriend until three in the morning. If Nicolette got woken up, she'd go nuts, demanding Cecilia hang up. If she didn't, Nicolette would go straight to the teacher."

"Cecilia wasn't like us. She wouldn't just agree. She knew what Nicolette was like, so she'd ignore her. Then Nicolette would really call the teacher at three in the morning, over and over, until she got through! Everyone else was asleep, who had time for that? But she didn't care. If the counselor didn't answer, she'd go to the teacher's dorm and drag them out. She was that tough. No one else could do that."

Zoey was increasingly impressed with Nicolette, whom she hadn't met yet, "She really is tough."

Her style was so similar to her own.

It was true, that strong people didn't complain about their environment; they made others complain.

Violette couldn't tell if Zoey was mocking or praising Nicolette, and gave her a puzzled look before continuing, "The teacher would come, but couldn't take it out on Nicolette, so they'd yell at Cecilia. Cecilia was annoyed, but she knew the teacher was also fed up with Nicolette. After the teacher left, she'd taunt Nicolette, daring her to call the teacher again! Nicolette must have realized the teacher was annoyed with her too, so she changed tactics. After all, they weren't in elementary school anymore. They were about to enter the real world, and teachers probably hated tattletales. So she found a new way."

At this point, Violette's anger was palpable, "She knew the teacher wouldn't come again, so she stayed up. Every time Cecilia finished her call, Nicolette would start playing music! She tested the volume during the day to make sure it wouldn't disturb other dorms, then played it at night! We couldn't sleep at all, even with earplugs!"

Alexander listened, increasingly convinced that Nicolette's style was just like Zoey's.

He glanced at Zoey, who was listening intently, a smile playing on her lips.

He suddenly felt that Zoey and Nicolette would get along perfectly.

"So how was it resolved in the end?"

Violette sighed in frustration, "We had to resolve it! We couldn't keep up with her. We were exhausted, physically and mentally. Our dorm had the worst dark circles. Eventually, we agreed that no one could make noise after midnight. Then she stopped playing music. Finally, we could sleep properly."
