Chapter 98 Aurora's Chicken Soup
Even though she couldn't read James' mind, Emily clung to his arm and grinned, "Babe, you promised we'd sort this out together in two years. You can't back out now."
James sighed but decided to let it slide, seeing Emily's good attitude this time.
But just as he was about to agree, something felt off. Hadn't he said one year before? How did it turn into two years with Emily?
James glanced at Emily, who was swaying his arm back and forth. Her eyes seemed a bit unfocused, clearly lost in her own thoughts.
Emily: [His arms are so strong, I wonder if they can be used to swing.]
James was taken aback. He never expected Emily to think about something like that, but swinging...
"How much do you weigh?" James asked out of the blue.
"What?" Emily was caught off guard by the question.
Emily: [What's up with him? Who asks a girl about her weight? Even though I have a great figure, I can't just tell him. He's really bad at this.]
James heard her thoughts but wasn't convinced, so he said, "Since you won't tell me, I'll find out myself."
Before Emily could react, James scooped her up. After a couple of bounces, he had a rough estimate. She was over 100 pounds, but still manageable.
James said, "Around 110 pounds. Now hold on tight, I've got a fun game for you."
"What are you doing? Put me down, I..." Emily started to protest, but she felt James's muscles tighten and loved the sensation. Just as she was about to complain, she felt like she was flying.
Instinctively, she clung to James's arm.
"Legs up," James instructed, and Emily lifted her legs.
So, James actually used his arms to swing Emily.
Emily: [So strong, so fun.]
Emily was swinging in the air, laughing like a little kid. James looked at her and laughed too. It was the first time he felt that working out was worth it.
After a while, James set Emily down. Unexpectedly, she held onto his arm and leaned her head on it, saying, "I'm dizzy. How are you going to make it up to me?"
"What?" James's brain seemed to short-circuit. Emily was having so much fun just now, how did it turn into her extorting him?
"Well..." Emily realized her actions were a bit too close, and seeing James's expression made her blush. She lowered her head, wanting to say she was joking, but before she could, James patted her head, smiling, "How about you don't have to pay back the money? Is that good enough?"
Emily's eyes lit up, and she nodded enthusiastically.
Emily: [James, you're amazing, simply the best husband, no, the best boyfriend, no, the best boss. Mr. Smith, you're the best.]
James thought helplessly, 'What is all this? Wait, wasn't it Emily who was supposed to pay Sophia? How did it turn into me paying?'
James felt a bit tricked. The Smith Group was now providing both people and money for the kids, while Emily, who was supposed to pay, just pouted cutely.
Suddenly, James had no complaints as he watched Emily bounce away.
David whispered, "Do you think James is falling for Emily again?"
Sophia whispered back, "What are you talking about? James has always liked Emily. He just likes her even more now."
Sophia and David were whispering in a corner, but they didn't know that James had already noticed them. He just didn't say anything to avoid making Emily or himself feel awkward.
James thought, 'I'll find a chance and reason to deal with you two later.'
In the following days, Emily and Sophia were super busy. The foundation was named after Sophia, and she wanted to contribute to the kids, so she did everything herself. As for Emily, she was unlucky to be dragged along, always saying she didn't want to, but when she saw the kids, she worked harder than anyone.
Emily even slowed down the filming progress to bring people from the crew to help when the foundation needed manpower. To James and the others, it seemed unreasonable, yet reasonable.
The only unhappy one was Brian, but what could he do? He could only be angry but not say anything, personally stepping in when no one was around, being the first to start work and the last to leave.
One day, after filming, everyone went to rest. James wanted to check on Emily and Sophia at the foundation, but before he could leave his room, someone blocked his way, almost bumping into Aurora.
James could have easily avoided it, but Aurora seemed startled by his sudden appearance, losing her balance and almost falling. If James didn't reach out to catch her, Aurora would have fallen to the ground, possibly hitting her head on the wall. So, James instinctively reached out to catch her.
"Thank you, Mr. Smith," Aurora said, her voice trembling.
James nodded calmly and asked, "What's the matter?"
They were at James's door, and Aurora was clearly there to see him. She remembered her purpose and quickly handed James a bowl of soup, saying, "I made chicken soup for everyone. This is for you, Mr. Smith."
James didn't want to accept it at first, but since Aurora said it was for everyone, as a member of the crew, he didn't refuse. He nodded, took it, and placed it inside his room, then returned to the door, saying, "I have some things to do."
Aurora understood and smiled, asking, "Are you going to the foundation, Mr. Smith?"
James nodded, and Aurora clapped her hands happily, saying, "Great, I was just about to bring chicken soup to Emily and Sophia. Let's go together?"
