Chapter 95: Sophia, Just Wait and See

After sending Wesley and the others off, Emily finally let out a big sigh of relief. She turned to see the kids, who were scarfing down their food like they hadn't eaten in days. The cops tried to tell them to slow down, but the kids were too hungry to listen. Some of them started throwing up because their stomachs couldn't handle the sudden feast, but they kept eating like it was the only way to prove they were still alive.

Emily: [Poor kids, I better get out of here. If the cops start bringing out the bodies from below, I won't be able to handle it. Sophia, you tried to mess with me, now it's your turn to face the music. Just wait and see how I outsmart you.]

Emily wasn't scared of seeing the bodies because she'd already seen the grim scene inside the well through her system's ability—dark, damp, and full of sick kids. That's why she wanted to help the ones who made it out.

When Emily left the supermarket, Wesley had already tracked down Sophia, James, and David. Wesley showed a lot of respect when he saw Sophia, which made her expression change instantly. She thought, "What kind of tough job has Emily set me up for now?"

But after listening to Wesley and connecting the dots with Emily's thoughts, she figured it out. Emily had set up a rescue foundation for her. She was shocked. She didn't think Emily was scheming against her; it was clearly a way to help her achieve her dreams with some financial backing.

"Sophia, can you handle this?" James asked seriously. "This is a thankless job. Your efforts might only be met with misunderstanding and criticism, and you could even face online harassment like Mia did before. Are you really ready for this?"

As her brother, James naturally thought more deeply about it. He knew Emily was catering to Sophia's interests, letting her do what she loved, but this job needed more than just passion.

Sophia wasn't dumb; she got what James was saying and didn't answer right away. She thought about it for a long time.

During this time, Wesley was super nervous. He thought everything was settled, but Sophia wasn't ready yet. If she decided not to do it, all his previous efforts would be wasted.

Luckily, the older generation of the Smith family had never let society down, which is why the family was so wealthy. Now, the younger generation, represented by Sophia, had to step up. She nodded firmly and said, "James, I get what you mean. I'm ready for this."

She looked confident but thought to herself, 'If it doesn't work out, Emily can still help me.'

Sophia and Emily had learned to complain and scheme against each other. After all, a little scheming within the family could strengthen bonds without causing harm.

After sorting out the Sunny Mart issue, Emily went back to the film crew. She thought filming could get back to normal, but Brian came up to her with complaints. They were short on temporary workers, so there weren't enough people on set, slowing down the filming. Plus, both the lead and second male actors had taken leave, so he had no choice but to film scenes with the lead and second female actors.Emily knew the shortage was because the police were tied up with their duties, but she couldn't explain that to Brian. So, she snapped back, "You ask me, who am I supposed to ask?"

Brian was on the verge of tears. He didn't dare complain to Emily anymore but felt uncomfortable keeping it to himself. He decided to call Toby. However, as soon as he started, Toby said, "You're the director, and you get paid like one. Isn't this your responsibility? You want my help? Then give me your salary."

Brian rolled his eyes. He realized there was no one in Emily's studio he could have a normal conversation with.

Resigned, he diligently coordinated various tasks on set. Wherever there was a shortage, Brian was there, which greatly moved many employees. It was rare to see Brian doing manual labor, handling logistics, and even acting as a cameraman.

Brian didn't expect that working and living with the employees, facing difficulties together, would earn him a good reputation. But that's a story for another time.

The film crew was indeed short-staffed. Wesley had taken all the police officers away, giving Emily a headache. However, James quickly helped by transferring some people from the Smith Group. These people were primarily to help Sophia take care of the children, including teachers, doctors, and other professionals.

The children were gradually sent away. Those who could be found homes were sent back, while those who couldn't or were unwanted were temporarily taken in by the Smith Group. The sick children were prioritized, with severe cases sent to Harmony Hospital and the newly renamed Evergreen Hospital.

After several surgeries, Emily felt her money dwindling rapidly, which made her unhappy.

Seeing her displeasure, James suggested she could owe the money and settle it in six months or a year. Emily readily agreed.

Emily: [This way, I can save the money and earn interest. The interest on such a large sum over a year is significant. I'm really good at managing money. Whoever marries me will be so lucky. Wait, I'm already married. Never mind, we're getting divorced anyway.]

Hearing Emily's thoughts, James said with a dark expression, "You should pay the money now."

"No way, Mr. Smith. You're the boss of the Smith Group. How can you go back on your word? That would damage the Smith family's reputation," Emily shook her head vigorously.

James thought, 'If people knew your thoughts, that would really damage the Smith family's reputation. As a member of the Smith family, do you really need to worry about interest? If you really want money, just say something nice to me, and I'll cover the surgery costs! And what's this about divorce? Can't we avoid this topic?'

Unfortunately, Emily couldn't hear James' thoughts. Otherwise, she might have chosen to save the money by clinging to James' arm and sweet-talking him.
