Chapter 46 046

Claire's pov

Lucien had agreed for Silas to join us at the table. I knew Austin didn't approve of it but he didn't have a choice here.

We all sat around the table silently eating and each time. I kept peeking glances at him, the silence was finally starting to suffocate me and I decided to speak.

“Lucien! Do you like the food?”

“I can't complain” he grumbled, which made me confuse if that was a yes or not”

“Oh! I was told this is what you wanted to have”

“And I am.not disputing that” he refuted back with a deep frown that spread across his face.

“But…..”

“Claire!” He called out to me, cutting out my next words. “I know you have something to say. Instead of beating around the bush, how about you just go ahead and speak”

I dropped the cutlery, and adjusted myself properly on my chair as I cracked my throat. Even as I opened my mouth it spoke. I kept thinking of the best approach to begin.

“I already told Silas that you have pardoned him and he is free to go”

“Yes, Alpha, I am deeply grateful for the mercy that you granted unto me” Silas immediately spoke out even though it seemed like my words had caught him off guard.

“You should thank your sister instead, I owe her a favor and right now. I think that we are even” Lucien continue to speak in a grumble tone, I understand that it was because of what transpired between the both of us in his room and now it was becoming difficult for me to ask a favor of him.

“And since Silas is here already, considering that he is human, I am thinking that it might be dangerous for him to return back alone”

“So you are saying that I should get some guards to accompany him back to the village?” He asked, his gaze fixed on the meal which he seemed to be enjoying.

“No, that is not it. Rather I am suggesting that I go back with him!” I blurted out and even though I had thought about certain best way to table this issue to him, it still didn't come out nice for me.

Lucien immediately stopped eating. His eyes turned dark as he stared at me with nothing but cruelty in his eyes.

“It seemed like I have showed you so much favor and now you have forgotten your place here” he massage his temple, obviously had no interest for the food again as he continued.

“Yoy are slave here and as such, you don't just get to return back to your home whenever it pleases you, that place is no longer your home”

“I know Lucien and I think that you might have misunderstood me. I mean I am grateful for all you have done for me and I will be selfish if I say I don't enjoy this place and neither am I suggesting to return permanently to my hometown”

“Then what were you insinuating just now?”

Now that I was certain that I had his whole attention, I leaned closer, peaking a glance at Silas who seemed furghtend at how this conversation was heading and then I turned to Lucien again.

“The thing is, there have been rumors going on in my hometown about my death, if Silas end up returning there alone and informing them that I am still alive, no one would believe him”

“So you want them to see for themselves that you are alive?” He asked and the frown on his face was slowly starting to soften.

“Yes. And trust me I will be back the next day. You can always ask your guards to go with me, escaping would be the last thing that I would think about doing because I know that would put the life ofy family in jeopardy and I don't want that”

I spoke hastily, afraid that if I wasted even just a second, I might not be able to let out the words.

Lucien was silent for a whole minute while I held my breath and was anxiously waiting for his response but after a while, he rose to his feet.

“That is. It happening” he grunt and walk away while I let out a frustrating sigh.

“It's fine. At least you tried” Silas squeezed my hand with an assuring smile on his face.

“I badly wanted to see mother, to hold her hand even just this once and tell her that I was fine” I lowered my head, trying so hard not to let the tears down.

“It's fine, you just need to continue being in his good side and seeing the way he treats you, I am sure that one day it would be possible”

“I really hope so” I forced a smile on my face and continue to eat. By the time I was done, I helped Marcy cleaned up the kitchen and while we did, I kept stealing glances at her wondering the best way to start up a conversation with her.

“What is it Claire?” She asked, no doubt that I had made my stared to obvious, like I was preparing her for what I was about to say.

“I have a favor to ask from you and I don't know if it would be possible”

“I can only know if it possible when you say it, so out with it!”

“My brother is returning back home today and I was wondering if there are some good stuff you can spare me, it's not easy back in our hometown and my family can use every little penny they can get”

“Is that all?”

“Yes ma”

“If course! There is more than enough here, so go ahead and take whatever you want!” There was this joy that instantly filled my heart and without hesitation, I rushed over to her and wrapped my arms tightly around her.

“Thank you so much Marcy. You don't know what this means to me”

“I understand dear, I know how hard life is for the humans and I am sure you understand the Alpha's does that to keep them in check, besides there is more than enough food and more keeps coming you, so why not”

She explained in her usual jovial tone and this time, I suggested she let me finish the whole work since this was my only way of appreciating her.

By the time I was done, I returned to my room and I knew that it was ready to send Silas back home. While I was so engrossed parking some of the items he would be leaving with, a knock came at the door.

“Who is there?” I asked but instead of a response, The door swung open and as Lucien stepped inside, I froze at a spot knowing that all of this was his items and might be consider theft.

Even as he stepped closer, I couldn't bring myself to explain how I had all this foodstuffs in my possession and I knew that this time around, I was doomed.
