46. Bitting Bone
Sol POV  

I had spent so much time separating myself from Cassius that I was starting to feel sad. I hated this separation with Quientin gone and Kimi in her strange mental space I was feeling rather lonely. I did like the people that had joined the pack, but I wasn’t particularly close to them, and I was now missing my mate.  
When I got a frantic mind link my cousin saying he was on his way back with his mate but wouldn’t elaborate other than say prepare and go into full lockdown everything. I was in full panic mode; I had no idea what he talking about? I ran out of my bedroom and into the living area, where Cassius was laying on the couch reading a book. I screamed out his name, and he admittedly bolted upright. “What happened?” he asked. 

“I don’t really know. I just know that I got a mind link from Quientin saying he was coming home, and we needed to lock down the pack until he got back or we hear from him. He said he couldn’t focus on giving me the details right now.” I could feel my voice trembling when I replayed what Quienten had mind linked me. He moved and I moved, and we started going from a framed A-frame telling everyone to turn off their lights and that we were basically going into hiding and from who or what we didn’t know. 

I was an Alpha, and I wasn’t going to be sitting down cowering or hiding after light was out. I moved myself into a position at the front of our little community standing there ready to shift  at a moment's notice, Cassius joined me. “You’re not a member of this pack. You’re not an alpha. You’re not a Luna you don’t position yourself here Cassius, you need to go hide.” I said firmly as if I could give him a command, which I knew I couldn’t. 

We still had that big distance between us since he talked to me, but it didn’t matter now whatever was coming, if something was coming, it was time to defend, and I couldn’t risk his life. “I’m your mate and my place next to you regardless of if I’m part of this pack or not.” he said I didn’t have a response for that. I didn’t even know what to say nor did I have time because soon Kimi joined the two of us in front. 

We were standing in the middle of a road that we had created that lead down straight through to the A-frames we had. She too, looked ready to fight. I couldn’t help but think she was almost looking forward to it. She looked at me they can expression in her eyes. “Quientin” I said down the mind link. “Can’t talk Alpha, running.” was all he would say.  

The day turned to night, and the night turned back today and then it was evening once more none of us had eaten or had a drink. We stayed out there not wanting to leave if something was going to come to hurt Blood Borne Pack. We needed to be ready, and we were all three tired, but willing to defend the small place we had created.  

Then it happened, Quientin, his white wolf was running straight towards us. He had a brown one next to him, and they were running on all four straight down the road toward us. Something was chasing them. “Quienten go take your mate to hide, you have been running too long to fight, go hide, that is an order.” I said down the mind link to my beta. I needed him alive, and he would be too tired to put up a good fight.  

I then smelt something familiar. I knew that smell it was Maven. He was the son of Mark and Helen. He wanted to be my beta growing up. But I had chosen my cousin. I was sure he was Ben’s beta now considering he was alive. It told me he chose Ben and had helped kill a lot of our pack, maybe even his own parents.  His brown wolf engaged with me.  

I shifted and my claws ripped into him. There was someone else here I could smell them. But they weren’t a wolf, was it a witch? I didn’t have time to focus on that, as I felt teeth pierce into me. What was going on? Why would Quientin lead them here? Was there more than just this one? I didn’t smell any others in the vicinity, but as I tore into another side of Maven’s brown wolf, he whimpered. 

I ripped and tore as best I could wanting to destroy him. He had been part of the problem. He had let  Benjamin destroy our home and I wanted him dead. I saw through my wolves' eyes and bit into his face as hard as I could. I knew I hit bone when my wolf teeth hit something hard. I didn’t release him though wanting to bite through his bone. He pulled away, and I watched then as he broke away was running the opposite direction he was fleeing.  

I consider pursuing him, I knew I should. He knew where we were. I should hunt him down. I should kill him. I looked to the side and saw Kimi laying there bloody. What had happened to her? Why would she bloody at all? She had engaged with Maven’s wolf, if she did, I would have seen her as I had attacked him. Where was Cassius? Fear rean through my wolf. 

I couldn’t see him at all. He was nowhere to be found. I sniffed the air, and I caught his scent. I spoke down the bond asking where he was and if he was all right. “I’m OK.” he said, I took him at his word and began to help Kimi up. She was laying there bleeding from her ears and eyes and even her mouth. I could see her chest moving up and down slowly. She was in her human form now and I didn’t know what that meant.  

I shifted back to human and picked her up. “Quientin, clothes and come now” I screamed down the link demanding that he come and tell me what had happened. “I called for Cassius to come too. I needed to treat Kimi, but I had no idea what had even happened to her. Was this witchcraft that did this? It had to be there was no other explanation.  

I rushed her to the center tables. We had the middle of our community. It’s where everyone ate together and set her on the top of one of the wooden tables laying her out, Cassius came up and I could see that he was rather bloody as well. Quientin soon came handing both me and Cassius clothes. We dressed and I ignored Quienten mate focusing on Kimi. I normally would have been more polite and greeted the newcomer, but Kimi was bleeding out before me. Cassius was quick saying “It’s witchcraft, a powerful spell hit her we need witch hazel”
