41. Cousins Reunite

41. Cousins Reunite
Sol POV

Cassius had loaned him his bike so he could go about his travels with ease saying it is easier moving around on a motorcycle and he could get to place a car or truck couldn’t. Cassius had been more than happy to show Quientin how to ride it. It was more convenient and less taxing on gas which was a perk, the fact my cousin loved it was good too. I rushed to greet him. He wrapped me in a large hug. “How many he made it back?” he asked referring to the people that he had met that actually decided to come while he was out there doing recruiting. “5 we’re up to 25 total.” he smiled

“That’s a lot for a year” I nodded. “And how are you and Cassius? Did he decide to join the pack yet?” he asked. I shook my head. “But when he does, we’ll be at 26.” He’d only be here for a few days before he went back out and did more recruiting. “I know we haven’t talked about it since I brought it up a while back” My brows came together having no idea what he was talking about.

“Back when we were still in college I brought up, that I reached out to Belle. You know the girl e we met at a mating meeting ball back when; everyone was…” He trailed off, not wanting to refer to the day that our lives got flipped upside down.

I nodded, understanding what he was getting at. “I want to visit their pack, I told you I thought she was my mate then and that we had some kind of connection, but I couldn’t smell the mate bond. She should be of age now and I’d like to go and if she is, I can bring her back. Our kids could grow up together. It’s what we always wanted.” he said, and it was true, but he also knew that I didn’t want to have children at the moment and I definitely wasn’t going to have them with Cassius until he join the pack. That was out of the question.

But the thought of Quientin leaving again, and possibly running into danger, made me super nervous. I didn’t want anything to happen to him, and I didn’t want us being well known among the bigger packs just quite yet. We didn’t have numbers to defend ourselves. The only thing we had was a harsh winter up here which we were all comfortable with.

“Please Sol.” he begged.. “ fine but only if you decide to winter here” I told him he was always gone on and off throughout the year and I miss him greatly. It was true what Cassius said that I didn’t have expectations being put on me being the alpha of this pack. No one here knew me growing up other than Kimi and Quientin. That made things easier for me and I didn’t have panic attacks after I would to converse with people, though I wouldn’t call any of them necessarily friends more like acquaintances.

“Fine if you let me go, I’ll get there the beginning of October, I’ll do it at the end of my next run. And when she does turn out to be my mate. I’ll bring her back and she will join the pack, and we’ll winter here.” I nodded excited. “Now I do believe you said you finished my cabin two weeks ago. You mind linked me that.” He said and nodded fervently.

A- Frame Cabins were easy to construct and durable and great for winter as well as water collection. They were rather amazing in that regards and as we didn’t need big homes and we were using more of a den structure; like how tents were used in the north. It made sense that everyone had an A-Frame Cabin. Quientin had been one of the first to be built, but he had also not been here, so we made sure that those incoming rogues had homes and we gave his first A-Frame away. But Cassius and I had worked on his during his last trip.

Cassius and I as well as all the pack members worked so his home would be done by the time he got back from this run, hoping that I could convince him to winter here. I guided him to his own A-frame, which was next to mine. “How did you manage to convince Cassius to build a home so close to yours?” I shrugged. Everyone was within walking distance, no more than a mile away, but Cassius had wanted all the little cabins to be spaced out. He insisted that everyone would want privacy or the illusion of it. So, we had laid it our so homes where not to close together but still all close enough.

“I convinced him by agree to plant trees in-between the cabins. I did and they will start to grow in the spring.” I said giving my cousin a smile before saying more. “You know, I’m not going in there. You go look around, I set your furs and such next to the front door so I wasn’t invading your den.” I said and he raised a brow. “I don’t have a mate yet Sol, it wouldn’t have sent me into a panic quite yet had you unpacked my stuff for me.” I shot him a look of get over yourself.

“Come knock on my door when you’re done and we’ll walk together to dinner; Cassius is there we have been switching off all day cooking the elk.” I told him. “did you hunt it by yourself please tell me you weren’t that stupid?” I laughed. It seemed like old times, him questioning me that I had gone off and was chasing big game animals alone. But I was more responsible now and spoke. “Of course, not Cassius, Bethany, and Roger helped”. He smiled and walked up into his new home, and I walked back to mine.
