35. New Life
35. New Life
Cassius POV
Sol had left with her cousin, taking the SUV leaving Kimi and I alone. The older she wolf was doing nothing really, she was outside, and it looked like she might be gardening or something, but I noticed sometimes she would just stare off into the sky. I didn’t pay much attention. I didn’t know what to say to her. I had watched as her son kill people he had grown up with.
I didn’t blame her at all for her sons, cruelty, and destructive nature that I put solely on my sister. She had done that to him slowly poisoned his mind. Instead, I tried to push the thoughts of what had to happen that day to their pack to the back of my mind and began to move my stuff into Sol‘s room. I wondered if it was the largest room in this place or just, that they were all about the same size.
Her room had more fur in it than mind had. I wonder if she had killed the animal that she had draped across her bed. I had already investigated this room before when I was spying on my mate and her cousin, but now that I had actually moved into the room, I took a further investigative inquiry as to what was really in there.
Everything in her bathroom was organic and naturally based surprising me. I’d really thought part of her great smell was maybe the shampoo she used but clearly now it was just the way she smelt naturally to me. I also looked to see that most of her clothes in fact were not at all fancy they were very average, mostly leggings and jeans all source from 100% organic cotton even her denim seemed to have a natural edge to it.
Then in the back of her closet, I noticed that she had this buckskin dress made of suede with tassels. I wondered if that was normal? Where would she have ever worn this? She also had an array of things to put in her hair, which was kind of fascinating. I’ve seen girls wear their hair up, but she had ribbons and ties and leather straps and a huge arrangement of things to braid or ordinate her hair.
The coolest looked like a kind of holster for a knife that she could braid in. Where had she gotten something like that. I had never seen anything like it and found it rather cool. I didn’t have long hair like her or Quientin, but I would consider it if I could hide knives in my hair.
Once all my things were put away, I took a chance to go look outside and try to figure out where I was going to put this grill because today Quientin had promised he would take me to go get it. And I was looking forward to cooking some meat that night having maybe a barbecue or something. I could definitely see this place being home. It was surrounded by woods. There was a fishing pond and my view was beautiful. I didn’t mind her cousin at all. He was good company, and I enjoyed the run we had yesterday.
I knew it was going to be a simple life, but I didn’t mind the fact. I knew eventually I’d have to face my sister and just say “ look I chose the simple life and I don’t want to be mixed up in your problems.” And then I would just stay out of it that's what I had planned to do that's the thought that went through my head when my mate shut the door in my face and I made a quick decision I had already decided that it was her I wanted and now I wanted all of this minus being bossed around by her being my alpha.
I didn’t want to be bossed around by anyone even though I know it wasn't supposed to work like that. But still I liked the idea of having no alpha but still being part of a pack in a way. My stepfamily and even my mother told me what to do all the time and I didn’t want to continue that cycle.
I told sol t I want to be here, and I want to be your mate. But I also made it clear I wasn’t going to be a part of a pack so I could be under her thumb as an inferior. There of course was also my past, that would never make me trustworthy to them, so it was best that I kept it like this. It would be a rather perfect setup for me considering. Just being in nature was the only thing I really wanted.
For the first time in my life things started to look up, I thought about maybe a future. I wondered if my mother would be happy, I know my father wouldn't, but he would be happy that the north was gone. According to my sister and her plans the goddess was on her way out so I was honoring his desires I felt just in a less hands-on approach. Yes, I was sure everything would be fine now.
Looking at the space outside I started to clear some of the underbrush ripping it up wanting to make a space for the grill maybe I could possibly go out later and find some stones to flatten the area do some yard work? That sounded so domesticated in my head, but I liked it. I didn’t know how much time had passed as I was busy clearing plants when I heard the SUV roll up. Perfect timing, I thought I was so ready to go buy a grill I'd probably get one outrageous one maybe even with a pizza oven though I wasn't a big fan of pizza I would still be cool. But definitely one with a smoker. Smoked meat was delicious, though building a smoking shack would be cooler.
I stopped what I was doing to approach to see when Quentin would be ready to go. But the look on Sol’s face when she got out of the car told me everything I needed to know the lawyers appointment did not go well. Something had happened and it wasn't good.
