Ghosted: A Tough Decision (Part I)
Ghosted: A Tough Decision (Part I)
“I was not ovulating! Don’t call it that!”
“What the hell else would you call it then, Robert, because I would love to hear it.” He huffed loudly, and she sneered. “That’s what I thought. Well, I guess you got what you wanted. You got yourself some pu–”
“I didn’t come here for that!” he shouted, cutting her off. “I haven’t done that since I died…well not since you. I wasn’t sure how it would go. I’m not exactly experienced with my new form; that’s why I was so nervous about it, plus you’re stunning; who wouldn’t be nervous? This is all new for me if I’m being completely honest.”
She chewed the side of her cheek, trying to understand. “Well-um-if you didn’t come here for that, then why did you?”
“Because I was tired of being alone.” The sentence hung in the air, and Molly's eyes softened. “It’s like unless you knew someone who died within the same span that you did, you don’t have anyone; you’re just alone. It’s a void. A silent, lonely void, and for once I just hoped that I wouldn’t be…by myself.” He gave her a soft smile. “And then I met you, and everything seemed so much better. You were nice, and confident, and it didn’t matter that I was clumsy or creeped you out at first; you just wanted to get to know me and that meant a lot.”
Molly's bottom lip trembled. “Oh…”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you, and I tried to tell you that last week, but I didn’t want to freak you out again.”
“Huh?”
He rubbed his hand up and down his arm and gave her a sheepish look. “Don’t be mad okay?”
She cut her eyes. “I’m already mad, but continue.”
“Well, you know all the banging and moving of stuff, and the writing on the mirror that happened in your apartment last week?”
“Oh! You little–” Molly tore the curtain open again. “You scared the fuck out of me! I thought I was going nuts. I should deck the hell out of you!”
“Put the curtain down!” She let go of the curtain, and he exhaled. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I just couldn’t physically appear. It’s all these rules and semantics that keep things in order. The week before we’re about to physically return, we can come unofficially to kind of scope out potential...”
“Ohhhh!” Molly shouted and punched him in the arm. “You’re gross! You creeped on me so you could get some when you finally got here?!” Stalking away he chased after her, stumbling along the way.
“Wait no, I didn’t do that, I swear! Our meeting was a happy coincidence. I came last week because I really wanted to see you, but I knew you were mad as hell at me, so I was trying to find a way to lighten the blow.”
“By scaring the ever-living out of me?”
He winced. “Yeah, no, I see now how my plan was absolutely horrible. I’m sorry.”
Molly glared at him for a moment and then exhaled sharply. “Fine. What’s done is done I guess.”
Robert nodded and then a huge grin broke out on his face. Grabbing her hands, he beamed. “We’re going to have a baby!” He rubbed her ring finger. “Okay, we could get married this week, or next month if you prefer. Believe it or not, I have a good amount of money hidden here, so we can also get a larger place and–”
“Woah, woah woah!” Molly said, pulling her hands away. “How did we get on the subject of marriage and living together? I’m still stuck on the fact that I got knocked up by a ghost. I guess at this point nothing should surprise me, but still, how the hell did this happen? I mean technically you didn’t even cum in me.” Robert shrank into his shoulders, and she glared at him. “You came inside me, didn’t you?”
He pinched his fingers together and whispered, “A wee bit, but that was by accident too.”
“Ugh! I can’t believe you!” she shouted, punching him in the arm again.
“Oww! I’m sorry! Wait! Don’t try to blame this all on me! Neither of us were exactly thinking about a condom. Of course, I didn’t expect this to happen.” He pursed his lips. “It’s weird now that I think about it. The living getting pregnant by ghosts is really rare. I mean it’s not impossible, and we did have sex right before the end of my stay, which is the peak ovulation–God I hate that word–time for ghost.”
Molly’s face paled, and she covered her lips. “Orrrr,” she said, reaching into her back pocket for her phone. Flipping through it, she pulled up her calendar. “One…two…orrrr…”
Robert tilted his head. “What?”
She gave him a nervous chuckle in response. “Okay, so don’t be mad…”
