Ghosted: Ghost Have FEEL-INGS
Ghosted: Ghost Have FEEL-INGS
Hands shaking, Molly turned around and tilted her head upwards. Robert’s saucered eyes stared back at her. “You’re pregnant!” he repeated.
“Ahhhh!” she screamed, tearing from the bathroom with him in tow. Making a cross with her fingers, she jutted them at him. “Get the hell away from me!”
He could hardly hear her, the sight of the positive pregnancy test still in his mind. “You’re pregnant!”
“Would you stop saying that!”
“Is it mine?!”
Dropping her hands, she scowled at him. “Who the hell else would it be?”
He waved his hands frantically. “I’m sorry! It’s just you made the first move on our date so–”
Molly let out a loud gasp and picked up a blue binder from the table. She hurled it at his head. “Don’t you dare try to slut-shame me!”
“Oww!” Robert yelled when it collided with his head. “I’m not slut-shaming you, and what the hell is in that binder?!”
She picked up another one and threw it at him. “It’s my lesson plans for the week!”
He covered his head, but the book hit him again. “Stop hitting me with educational material! That really hurt, Molly!”
“Then choose your next words wisely,” she said, her breathing ragged. “Besides, you might want to refresh your memory. You dropped those draws faster than the roadrunner thwarting the coyote.”
Robert gasped and stumbled backward. “I did not!”
She threw up her hands and shrugged her shoulders. “Yes, you did. Now what? Hm, what else you got?”
Deciding it was best not to make her angrier, Robert bent down and picked up a binder and flipped through it. With his face scrunched, he nodded. “This is really good by the way. I’m engaged and–”
Molly's lips parted. “What the hell is the matter with you! Stop reading my stuff, and how the hell did you get into my apartment and why are you here?! You really think I want to see you after you fucked me and then left in the middle of the night?!” She sighed and averted her eyes. “That was a really messed up thing to do, Robert.”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “I know, but I swear I didn’t have a choice. I had to leave at midnight.”
Molly cocked her head back and turned up her nose. “What in the sexual Cinderella are you talking about.? Why don’t you just be an adult and own up to your shit? You wanted to have sex, but you didn’t want to have to deal with the after of it.”
Walking over to her, he lifted her chin with his finger. His eyes soft, he made her look at him. “That’s not it. I really didn’t have a choice, Molly. I would never do that to you. That night was the best night I’ve ever had.”
She didn’t want to believe him, but the dullness of his eyes and the slump of his shoulders made her spit catch in her throat. She didn’t like seeing him that way, not when she knew how bright and beautiful his eyes could be. “How did you get into my apartment?” she asked, backing away.
Robert ran his fingers through his hair and paced. “That–well, that is a little hard to explain.”
“Try or leave.”
He stopped. “Okay. Do you remember when we met, and the waitress told us the story about ghosts being able to walk with the living during a special time of the month?”
“Yeah, so?”
“Welllll…it’s true. Haywood is a very special place. It’s the divide between planes, which is why we’re allowed to come here once a month for a week.”
A harsh chuckle ripped through the room. “Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me. Are you really about to tell me that you ghosted me because you’re a ghost?” She scoffed. “I liked the Cinderella story better; at least it had some flair. Now stop being an ass and tell me how you got in here without me knowing!”
Robert growled and threw up his hands. “You’re impossible! I’m not lying. I am a ghost! The night we were together was my last night for the month. On our last night at midnight we disappear and can’t come back until the third week of the following month.”
Molly placed her hands on her hips and sized him up. “Fine. Prove that you’re a ghost.”
He flared his nostrils. “Fine, but don’t get freaked out and hit me with something else.” He strolled over to the window, and grabbed onto the curtain and pulled it back. Beams of sun shone over his body, causing it to go completely transparent. “See?”
Molly sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes. “I’m pretending I have an attitude to distract you, but I’m scared and I’m about to run like hell. Ahhhh!” she screamed, darting to the front door.
Robert appeared in front of her, falling in the process. “Stop freaking out! It’s not good for the baby!” he said, getting up from the floor.
“What is your face saying to my face?! Stop talking to me, Casper!” she shouted as she closed her eyes and swatted him repeatedly.
He grabbed her shoulders. “Molly! I’m still the same me!”
She tried to calm herself, but her heart felt like it would pop out of her chest. “Y-you’re a-a g-ghost. I can’t believe I had sex with a ghost!” She broke away from his grasp. “How the hell is that even possible?! I’ve seen those videos where people think they’re having sex and all it looks like is them humping the air. That’s not what happened! I had the cum stains on my sheets to prove it.”
He groaned. “Dear God, please don’t bring up that embarrassing ass moment again. Look, on our first night here, our bodies are still getting adjusted so we still possess a lot of our abilities, which is why I’m still pretty translucent right now. Throughout the week, we lose them temporarily so that we can blend in better. I guess it’s the trade-off for being able to be here in the first place.”
Molly placed her hand over her erratic heart. “I don’t understand why only a week? Who the hell made this up?”
If he was slightly red before, Robert was now as red as her nails. “Um…so…ah…”
“What?”
“Ghosts still have feelings.”
She tilted her head. “The hell does that even mean, Robert?”
He nudged his head forward and stretched his eyes. “Feel-ings.”
“Ooo-kay,” she replied tensely. “You’re repeating it isn’t going to–” Her lip curled upward and her brow furrowed. “I know damn well you aren’t trying to tell me y'all come here to get some ass.”
“I-I wouldn’t put it as crudely as that, but–” He coughed. “Uh, once a month for a week, the intensity of our powers and everything else kind of builds and it makes us a little…antsy.” She stormed over to the window and ripped open the curtain, making him go translucent again. “Really? Real mature,” he said, scoffing.
“ I have a right to be immature,” she said, dropping the curtain. “ Oh my God. Ghost ovulation. I had sex with a fucking ghost when he was ovulating.”
