Chapter 745 Missing?
Chapter 745 Missing?
So after Primrose heard about it, she said, "Send me the case information, let me take a careful look."
After receiving the case information, Primrose began to examine it carefully. She didn't doubt the store clerk's decision to report the missing person. In her view, this was perfectly normal - when a friend stands you up after making plans, their phone is unreachable, and they haven't explained the situation, any normal person would choose to call the police.
The only thing that puzzled her was Zara's sudden resignation. Looking at the police investigation information, this woman named Zara had quit without any warning. Actually, calling it a resignation was just the fast food restaurant's one-sided interpretation.
Zara had never said she wanted to quit. She just suddenly left, and then the fast food restaurant manager naturally assumed she had quit, since it wasn't uncommon for servers at the fast food place to do this.
After Primrose finished talking with Lucille, Lucille responded.
"There's definitely something off. First, check her bank account. She changed her phone, changed her address - she couldn't have changed her bank account too, right?"
Primrose nodded. Soon they found Zara's bank account information. There wasn't much money in it, just a few transaction records. From the limited transaction information, they could see this card was still being used, the location was still in Azure Bay, just in a different area.
This meant Zara was likely fine. If she had gone missing, the suspect wouldn't be stupid enough to openly use the victim's card.
With this conclusion, the two relaxed a bit. Then Lucille had Primrose take Marc to find where Zara was living now and ask her why she suddenly disappeared.
The two took people to the places where Zara had made purchases and started investigating. Before long, they confirmed where Zara was living.
However, Zara's residence made them even more confused.
Primrose said, "Logically speaking, based on Zara's spending level, this is an upscale neighborhood. The monthly rent here is $8,500. How could she possibly afford to live here?"
Marc replied, "It is very strange."
The two arrived at Zara's residence and knocked on the door.
As footsteps approached, a voice asked, "Who is it?"
"Police, we need to ask you about something."
A voice came from inside the door, "Wait a moment, let me change clothes. My pajamas aren't appropriate."
Marc muttered quietly, "She was clearly walking over to open the door just now, but when she heard we were police, she suddenly said she needed to change clothes. What a lame excuse."
Primrose said, "It's fine, this is the 13th floor. She can't run away."
After a while, the door opened. She brushed back her hair, with some sweat on her forehead sticking the hair to it.
"What can I do for you?" Zara asked timidly.
Primrose said, "We just need to ask you about some things. Won't you invite us in?"
Zara's expression changed. "Sorry, it's my first time having police come to my door, I'm a bit nervous."
Primrose said with a double meaning, "You haven't broken any laws, why are you afraid of the police?"
Zara could only smile awkwardly.
After entering, Marc began observing the surroundings out of habit, while Primrose handled the conversation.
"Don't be nervous. We're here because your colleague reported to the police, suspecting you had gone missing."
Hearing Primrose say this, Zara quietly breathed a sigh of relief. "They just overthink things. In today's law-abiding society, where are all these missing person cases coming from?"
Primrose raised an eyebrow and suddenly changed the subject. "What were you just thinking about?"
"What?"
"Nothing. By the way, your colleague said you left without even taking your wages. What's that about?"
"I know our manager - he's a pervert and he's interested in me. If I asked for my wages, he would definitely take the opportunity to harass me. I didn't want to argue with him, so I just didn't take it."
"Would you mind telling us more about it?" Primrose asked.
Zara shook her head. "It's not very convenient."
Primrose nodded understandingly. "Then can you tell us why you quit after only working at the burger place for a few days?"
"I quit because that manager kept trying to take advantage of me. I had no other option, so I could only resign."
This reason seemed reasonable enough.
Marc suddenly spoke up. "The rent here isn't cheap, is it?"
Zara's expression became somewhat unnatural.
Primrose waved her hand. "Since you're safe, we'll be leaving now."
Zara was overjoyed. "Take care, take care."
After leaving, in the car, Primrose and Marc looked at each other.
"What do you think?"
Marc thought for a moment. "She obviously has something to hide, but it's probably not serious. Looking at her, everything is written all over her face. Someone with that kind of composure can't pull off anything big. I'm guessing she's become someone's sugar baby - after all, she's pretty good-looking."
Primrose raised an eyebrow. "Is she prettier or am I prettier?"
Marc was stunned. "Of course you're prettier. You've got strength, she doesn't."
"Get lost!" Primrose laughed and cursed. "I'm sure you also noticed that everything in her home is luxury goods. She doesn't have a job now, and her payroll card doesn't show any transactions for this furniture. Add to that the expensive rent - where is all this money coming from?"
"The most likely explanation is she's become someone's sugar baby, but I always feel things aren't that simple."
Marc said, "As long as she hasn't broken any laws, even if there is a problem, it's not our concern."
"True. Let's go back and report to Lucille."
Near evening, Victor went to the burger place to investigate. He learned from the front desk lady that Zara was fine, then asked her for Zara's phone number.
Before Emily got home from school, Victor returned home.
His thoughts were complicated. Why wasn't she dead?
But still, good thing she wasn't dead!
He feared she was dead because if Zara had been arranged by Blake, and she died, he would lose this "trump card."
He hoped she was dead because, given Blake's meticulous mind, Zara dying would make sense.
The current result was that Zara wasn't dead, which made him anxious. Since Blake hadn't harmed Zara, did that mean whether she lived or died didn't matter?
It didn't affect anything?
Could it be that Zara really had no problem?
Was he overthinking it?
But then what was that uneasy feeling about?
No, Zara definitely had a problem. But if she had a problem, then where did Blake's confidence come from?
Victor suddenly felt exhausted. Why was he so unlucky - hit by a hammer, then shot, and he had a father who constantly wanted to turn him into a psycho killer.
And he had to drag his injured body around investigating. He felt busier than the police.
After adjusting his mood, Victor called Zara. He deliberately changed his voice. "Hello, is this Zara?"
"Who is this?"
"I'm from the delivery company. Your delivery address is unclear, so I'm calling to confirm."
After getting Zara's current address, he hung up, picked up his phone's map app, and started searching.
Soon, his brow furrowed.
