Chapter 744 Story
Chapter 744 Story
Victor was speechless. He simply pulled out five hundred dollars and placed it in front of the receptionist. "There, can you tell me now?"
This made the receptionist even more interested.
"There must be a story between you two. But I really don't know why she quit. She just left suddenly, didn't even collect her paycheck."
"Do you have her contact information?"
"Wait, you like her but don't even have her contact info?" The receptionist looked surprised, then hesitated. "Giving out someone's personal information like this... I don't even know who you are. What if you're some bad guy?"
Victor pulled out another five hundred dollars. "I understand your concern. How about this?"
The receptionist didn't take it right away. He knew she was trying to raise the price.
He was getting impatient. "Come on, you're not the only one who knows this information."
The receptionist thought about it and agreed. "Wait here, I'll go get her employee badge. It has her contact info on it."
The receptionist went into the staff break room and came out shortly with a badge.
Victor took the badge and memorized the phone number on it.
He sat down by the window and called Zara.
As expected, no one answered.
He had a theory - Zara might have been arranged by Blake.
Because on the day he woke up in the hospital, even though there were many people around, Victor still noticed that Zara and Blake seemed to know each other.
He'd been suspicious of Blake for a while now, especially after Blake's stamina that night at the hospital and those sudden words he said.
It made him even more suspicious.
Either way, he had to find Zara. He needed to know why she approached him and what her relationship with Blake was.
But trying to find her in a city of millions was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
He decided on a two-pronged approach - get help from the police on one hand, and test Blake on the other.
He walked up to the receptionist and pulled out ten thousand dollars he'd prepared earlier, placing it in front of her. "Call the police."
This time the receptionist panicked. She looked at Victor. "What are you trying to do?"
"You don't need to know why. Just call the police. Tell them that after Zara quit, you two had plans to hang out, but she didn't show up and her phone is off. You're worried about her safety, so you're reporting it."
The receptionist looked nervous. She was really panicking now. In her mind, she'd already labeled Victor as some kind of psycho.
Seeing her nervousness, Victor tried to reassure her. "Don't be scared. This has nothing to do with you. What I'm saying is all true - I'm looking for her but can't find her."
"Why don't you call the police yourself?"
Victor obviously couldn't call himself. If he did, Lucille might focus all her attention on him.
"It's not convenient for me. You don't need to worry about anything. Ten thousand dollars might not be much, but for you, it's a decent amount of money."
"For you, you don't have to do anything except make one phone call, and you get ten thousand dollars. Are you sure you don't want it?"
"It's morning now, the shop's not busy. If you refuse, I'll come back at noon. I'm sure your coworkers would be happy to do this."
That got the receptionist interested, though she was still hesitating.
"I know what you're worried about. You're afraid I'm a bad person and might do something that'll get you in trouble, right?"
The receptionist nodded.
"Don't worry, I'm not a bad person. If I were, why would I ask you to call the police?"
"Besides, my shop is right across the street. See that? That pet taxidermy shop - it's mine."
"And the reason I'm asking you to call is because Zara and I don't really know each other. Sure, we went out once, but just that one time. If I call the police, they'll think I'm making a false report. You understand?"
After explaining this much, the receptionist finally stopped doubting and reached for the money. Victor pressed his hand on it.
The receptionist looked annoyed. "What? Changed your mind?"
Victor shook his head. "No. If you want the money, make the call now!"
"OK, OK."
After saying what Victor told her to say, the receptionist looked at him nervously. "Is that OK?"
Victor smiled and pushed the money toward her.
The receptionist looked pleased.
Then Victor added, "What happened today was your own decision and has nothing to do with me. You never saw me, understand? As for the shop's security cameras, I trust you'll handle that."
"These are just some suggestions. If you want to keep this money, you'd better do as I say, or the consequences will be serious."
Seeing the receptionist's struggle, Victor continued, "Of course, if you don't want to do this, just give me the money back. I'll wait here with you for the police to come, and I'll explain everything to them."
The receptionist obviously wasn't going to throw away money she'd already gotten. She clutched it to her chest and nodded firmly.
"You'd better keep this secret. Don't tell anyone, or you won't be able to handle the consequences."
Victor had to make sure the receptionist wouldn't sell him out, which is why he threatened her.
Plus, she'd taken the money, so she wouldn't talk.
Next, he needed to test Blake. That note that suddenly appeared definitely had special meaning.
He'd show it to Blake - he wanted to stir things up.
Blake definitely wouldn't show any weakness, but he would take some action.
Once he made a move, Victor could catch him!
He took a cab home.
On the way, Emily sent a message reminding him to eat lunch.
Victor couldn't help but smile. She was treating him like a kid.
When he got home, Barbara happily went to the kitchen to cook, while Victor pretended to accidentally drop the note on the floor.
Blake picked up the note and handed it to him.
He could easily see what was written on it.
Sure enough, Blake showed no reaction at all.
After eating, Victor took a cab home. On the way, he even sent Emily a video, telling her he'd eaten at home.
Now that Blake's side was handled, all that was left was to wait for news from the police.
He was just worried the police wouldn't take it seriously. After all, with so many people in the city, disappearances were too common.
People went missing almost every day.
But these disappearances weren't kidnappings - it was because there were so many migrant workers in the city. Some people would come to work, suddenly quit, and just go back home.
Their coworkers wouldn't know, couldn't reach them, and could only call the police. Then the police would spend resources investigating, only to find the person was just lying around at home.
Who could you complain to about that?
But what Victor didn't know was that before he had the receptionist call the police, the police had already received reports about three missing girls.
So right now, they were taking these disappearance cases very seriously.
The burger shop receptionist had just called the police, and within minutes, officers arrived at the shop.
After questioning her, they initially determined this was very likely a disappearance case, and probably related to those three other missing girls cases.
They reported it up the chain. The officer on duty today happened to be Primrose.
