Chapter 49; The Tension

The tournament included ten alphas, not including the Thunder and Shadow packs. Cheska, these 10 alphas are determined to win the prize. Every one of them has a motive for being engaged, while others, like the Black pack's Alpha Xander, simply want to have fun.

Because the Thunder Pack hosted the event, its alpha was required to deliver opening comments and explain the rules of the game. Matthew, on the other hand, is nowhere to be seen. He still hasn't turned up to the pack house as of yet. As a result, when the Head Council, Charles, described the regulation, Luna Maurice was the only one who spoke.

Everyone decided to hold a drawing to determine who would confront each other until only one remained. Following the explanation, all of the packs retired to their cabin to relax. They will have ample time to see the city since the game will be held the day after tomorrow.

However, not the Thunder pack. They needed to protect and patrol in order to maintain order. Beta Leonel was busy assigning assignments to everyone in the pack house's barracks. When looking for Matthew, Head Council Charles discovered this.

"Alpha is not here..." Leonel replied and continued his work, but Charles did not depart right away.

"Then, do you know why the Thunder Pack is on the list of participants?"

Leonel shifted his gaze tiredly. "Why are you asking me?" He had been quite busy since his arrival in the city. As a result, despite his desire to participate in the game, he is unable to do so.

"You don't know anything!" Please tell me! Is this Matthew's strategy? Do you want to sabotage my plan?!" Council Charles yelled angrily,

"Your plan is meaningless to us, so cut the craft!" We're too busy keeping the city in order to spend time with your drama! Ask the alpha if you have any queries regarding the distaste!" Leonel nodded and turned to go. The member of the pack instantly followed him.

Charles fists were clinched. "It's almost certain that Matthew will not compete," he mused as he recovered his calm.

--------

Cheska was sitting peacefully in a corner of the snack shop, enjoying her favorite strawberry shake. She completes the duty handed to her, so she may relax.

Her peaceful time was cut short as a bunch of people entered the snack shop. As he approached her, the person in the center smiled.

"Mcbride, Cheska... It's been a long time!"

Cheska lifted an eyebrow, perplexed as to who the guy was. She recognizes the man as one of the 10 alphas, but she can't recall which pack he belongs to or his name.

The guy laughed when he saw Cheska's expression of disinterest. “Wow! I had no idea I didn't make an impact when we first met! "This is Alpha Xander of the Black pack!"

"Hmm... Do we know each other?" Cheska couldn't recall who was standing in front of her, no matter how hard she tried. She kept smiling. "Anyway, as you can see, I'm resting and want some peace, so if you don't mind, take another table..."

“Wow! Are you still upset with me? C’mon! Let us put the past behind us... "Let's put the past behind us and start fresh, with the promise of a lifetime of happiness together just around the corner," Xander stated, reaching out his hand in invitation.

'Hmm... It seems that my history with this individual is not favorable...Cheska said to herself as she stared at Xander's face.

"I'm thrilled that you're considering staying with me for life, but that's not going to happen... "You have no chance of winning," Cheska said flatly. Cheska didn't bother to act properly since Xander had previously said that they had a misunderstanding.

Xander's grin began to fade. "What exactly did you say?" I have no chance of winning? And what prompted you to think of that? Don't you recall that the Black Pack is one of the top five strongest packs, and with Thunder and the Shadow Pack not joining, my chances of victory are excellent?"

Cheska drank her strawberry smoothie, a sardonic smirk on her lips. "Dreaming is free, which is why I won't stop you." But make sure you get up on time..."

“You!” Cheska's arm was instantly grasped by Xander's hand.

"What's going on here?" Eunice was the name. She had wanted to speak to Xander earlier, so she sought for an opportunity. So she instantly followed him when she spotted him strolling with his pack.

Cheska and Xander exchanged glances before the latter hurriedly let go of her arms. “Nothing... "We're just talking and trying to work out the misunderstanding," Xander stated, smiling.

Eunice approached Cheska and sat next to her. "It's fine to work things out, but don't go overboard..." Eunice gave Xander a serious and menacing look. Despite the fact that their relationship was private, Eunice despised the notion that Xander was talking to or paying attention to someone else. She is envious of Cheska Mcbride in particular.

"You know him?" Cheska inquired, unable to ignore Eunice and Xander's furtive stares at one other.

Eunice shook her head. "Well, we ran into him at the airport... " Remember? We witnessed you being pushed by him the day Matthew and I came..."

As he reddened, Xander was overcome with fear. "I've apologized for what I did, so let's put the past behind us." And, as I already said, the likelihood of Cheska becoming my Luna is high. That's why I wanted to apologize to Cheska and become friends with her." As he glanced at Eunice, Xander's lips curled into a grin. He intended to make Eunice envious and give her the impression that she could find someone else. The disturbance at Cheska's table drew everyone's attention. What they were most interested in, though, was Xander's announcement.

"Hmm... Your self-assurance is admirable, but unfortunately, it is insufficient... You have no chance of winning if you and I fight..." Cheska snarled, a mischievous grin on her face.

(Because of Cheska's announcement, the hubbub in the snack bar escalated. Eunice had not expected her to say this.)

"How about we play a friendly match?" With a grin, Ava said. She was standing outside the snack bar, listening in on the group's chat. She couldn't stop smiling as the flow of their talk continued. Ava has been keeping an eye on everyone since this morning. That's why she saw the way Xander and Eunice exchanged glances. When the two were in the same room, she sensed a spark, which made her assume something was going on.

"A match? Between whom?" Cheska inquired.
