Chapter 81 - I See It Now

SIN'S P.O.V.

I gave a small sigh, then thrust the phone back into my pocket. Enrique was still standing in front of me, but he had drawn closer now, his finger resting on the trigger.

"On my way, princess? You do have some confidence."

"I can't help it," I said with a shrug. "I don't intend on dying tonight."

His brow raised, and he gave a small croaked laugh.

"Open the damned thing."

"Why?" I asked, my eyes briefly dropping to the briefcase still at my feet. "What do you think it is?"

"The diamonds you fucking stole! I want them back!"

"Back? You little fucker. You really thought I wouldn't connect the dots? You randomly showed up right when that completely ridiculous offer came up, and you thought I wouldn't know you came for just that?"

"Well, congrats. But what have you done with that knowledge, huh? Look at you. You are cornered in your own fucking home. I could take that whore's daughter now. And Angel? There is no use for that spoiled brat. I could throw her in some..."

Before I knew it, I grabbed a bottle of wine from the cellar and swung it across, hitting him right in the head. The bottle shattered, its contents spilling, the shards of glass flying around us and making a mess. The glass cut into my skin, but I couldn't care less.

Enrique took a step back, losing orientation, but he still held the gun tight, like he knew the moment he let it go and I got hold of it, he would be fucked.

I took the chance to grab his hand, my teeth gritting as I held his fingers tight, so that even if he wanted to pull the trigger, he wouldn't be able to.

"Let me go, you bastard!"

"Fucking spill it!" My voice was a little cracked, and I felt liquid run down my right cheek. "Why did you really come back? Why the fuck did you come back? Who is Kali? Why is the bastard not doing anything despite the fact that I got my diamond and my twelve billion?"

He suddenly kicked, hitting me in the stomach. I fell forward but held on to him, pulling him with me.

I cursed under my breath as I felt the round barrel of the gun on my chest. I needed to go see Annalise like she wanted me to. This bastard wasn't getting in the way of that.

"You are messing with the wrong person!" He screamed, and I slapped him hard across the face, causing him to spit out blood.

"My daughter is sleeping, you fucking moron. Start talking. Right fucking now."

He finally met my eyes, his eyes reddened with hate and anger, his chest heaving. There was no sound except for our loud breaths, and I held him down, making sure he wouldn't be able to shoot.

"You... we will kill you soon. I swear it."

"You already gave up on today? Interesting."

"Soon!" He spat, trying his best to push me off him. It didn't work, and he lay back down, exasperated.

"Tell me, and I will spare you. I will spare you, Enrique." I was lying. Once he dared open his mouth to let me understand where all of this nonsense was coming from, I would gladly send him to God for final assessment.

He and whoever was backing him, Kali, Alexander, and Dante, who had somehow fallen off the face of the earth, actually did impress me. I still couldn't figure out a clear motive. Or a perpetrator. Just a series of conspiracies that felt too childish. Too easy for me to win. It felt like a setup.

"Start talking," I said, holding his chin between my index and thumb. "Right now."

"I would rather die," he said. "I would rather die than watch you win again. I would rather die than watch you have everything I never could."

My eyes thinned. "Is this still about Larissa? Is that why?"

"Everything was about her," he said before he pushed me off.

The gun fell between us, and neither of us tried to grab it.

"You took everything from me. The woman I loved, my money."

"You are still foolish. You were running after nothing while I built this empire. You could team up with me. You could build with me. But you always chose my enemies, how is that my fucking fault?!"

He laughed. "You keep taking things from people, and now someone... someone will get you. He will, I assure you, Sin. He will get you."

My lips parted, and I slowly nodded. "Sure, I am waiting. Whoever this man is, I hope he is ready too. I hope he isn't as easy to defeat as you are."

Enrique's eyes darkened with hatred, and he suddenly grabbed the gun, then leveled it at me again.

"He is probably going to kill me," he said slowly, his eyes darting across from me. "I won't be able to see you go down. I won't be able to see this money shared amongst others, and your women conquered. But I will see it now."

I didn't move as he slowly brought the gun to rest on my chest. My teeth gritted as I watched his eyes, my fists clenching. My mind swirled with possibilities.

First, it was Larissa, that photo, and Gabriel. Then Alexander and his boss, Kali. Now Enrique. He seemed to have come for the diamonds too, and even though I had been expecting something to happen, I never expected that it would be from Enrique. I, for one, would never have a fool who hesitates to pull the trigger in my team.

A gunshot reached my ears, and I looked up to the door. Larissa was by the door, her brows drawn, her lips parted.

Enrique's eyes widened in shock, and he slowly turned to her.

"Sin," she said, her voice shaky. "Are you okay?"

Enrique slowly fell forward, and I watched his blood spill to the floor. Larissa ran to me, wrapping her arms around me, her hair sprawled across my shoulders.

"Sin. Are you okay? Are you hurt? Is everything..."

A small smile lifted my lips as I pulled her closer to me, my hands resting on her back.

I saw it now.
