Chapter 196
Chapter 196
David
David cradled his little mate in his arms as they both grieved the loss of a sibling. “I’m so sorry, Sweetness.” He whispered as she cried into his shoulder.
He understood. Mara was evil and she had hurt Stormy deeply, but in the end, she was still Stormy’s sister. They had a lifetime of memories, just as he had with Daniel.
For David, the loss of his brother was still so new and raw. It felt like a giant hole had been punched in his chest. There was a giant gapping wound that no amount of bandages could even close. He couldn’t even begin to untangle all of his emotions. He knew he should be crying, but it was all too raw. He suspected that he was still in mild shock.
He knew deep down there was nothing he could do to take Stormy’s pain away. There were no words or magical fixes. Grief like they were experiencing took time. All he could do was hold her, while she held Mara.
David could hear the last of the Frost Queen’s heart beats and he knew that it was the end for her. Her mother, Angie, must have also know because she suddenly appeared. She crouched down with Stormy and brushed some stray dark hairs gently from her daughters face.
“I’m so sorry my darling, baby girl” Angie said as tears poured down her face. “I wish there was another way.”
Stormy looked up at her mother with a face full of compassion. Would you have me save her? She asked.
Angie nodded her head. “I can’t ask you to do that. She would always be a danger to you. I can no longer sacrifice one daughter for another.”
Stormy reached up and placed her hand compassionately against her mother’s cheek. What if I remade her? She wanted to create life. What if I gave her that power? Could she become some one else, if she was given a life beyond death and destruction? Stormy asked with a furrowed brow.
Angie’s eyes lit up. “You would do that? You think it’s worth it to give her a second chance?” Angie sobbed.
Could you bind her powers and take her memories so that she could live a long and happy life? Stormy signed.
“I am willing to do that. I desperately want her to have a second chance, but not at your expense. I look at what you did with a mortal life and I couldn’t be prouder of the woman you became. It would mean everything to me if Mara could find even part of the happiness you have.” Angie said excitedly.
David frowned. He didn’t know how he was supposed to feel. Mara who was clearly evil, had wronged first his mother and then his mate. His brother, who was young and deceived by her, was dead. It didn’t seem right that she was getting a second chance. His grief and anger were almost strangling him.
Stormy turned and asked Damian if he would retrieve Mara’s egg. The room was silent while Damian brought the egg and placed it down next to Mara’s body. Once he backed away from the vessel, Stormy began to channel the dark energy out of the egg and release it into the room.
After a few minutes, Stormy stopped and grasped her chest. David rushed to her side and pulled her into his arms. She looked at him with wide excited eyes.
Daniel! I found Daniel! She sighed wildly.
David looked at her with a raised eyebrow. He didn’t understand. He knew exactly where his brother was. Daniel had died by his hand, and his body was still laying on the battlefield.
His soul is here. It was in Mara. She gestured. Would you have me remake him? Would you give him a second chance? She asked David.
“I would have him be happy.” David said with a bit of sorrow. He knew just putting Daniel back into his body, he would still be miserable. His brother would never be happy living in his shadow or watching Stormy be happy without him.
Almost as if Stormy understood, she put her hand against his cheek. She smiled softly and David knew she had a plan. He could feel her willing him to trust her, through their bond.
She began to channel again and the egg became a glowing blue color like her heart stone pendant. She continued to wave her hands and concentrate as the egg divided into two separate vessels. She placed her hand on each one and looked like she was silently speaking, before she dropped her hands.
Slowly the eggs began to hatch. David stood in awe as he saw a human looking hand protrude from one of the eggs and a long slender leg emerge from the other. The people slowly pushed their way out while Stormy knelt to the ground and began to pick up handfuls of dirt from the cave floor. She shaped the ground like she was building a sand castle. She waved her hand over her creation and it disappeared.
David watched her stand and greet the two bodies that had emerged from the egg. David could hardly believe his eyes. The male had blue black hair covering his pointed ears and silvery grey almond shaped eyes. He looked exactly like an elven version of his brother. The woman also had dark hair and Stormy’s face. It was as if his Mara been born as a full-blooded elf.
I have placed Daniel and Mara in these new forms so that they are still immortal. Their memories have been erased and replaced with the genetic memory of the elven people ,so that their race can be rebuilt from them. I have also made them second chance mates, so that neither has to be alone. Mara has no power and will be bound to the new elf island that I have created for them. Daniel will have all magic of the elves, so it can be passed down through their children. Stormy used her hands to explain.
She turned and drew a heart on to David’s chest and placed her hand over it. I have gifted the island with a mirror gate so that you may visit and get to know your brother again. I have also opened the island to teleportation so that mother can visit as often as she likes. After you get acquainted, I’ll let mother take them home, so they can start their new lives.
Angie rushed over to Stormy and threw her arms around her. “Thank you” she said tearfully. Once she released her hug that had encompassed both David and Stormy, she rushed to hug Mara.
David walked over and introduced himself to Daniel. “I know you don’t remember me, but you are like a brother to me and I would be happy for us to get to know each other again.”
“I would like that,” Daniel said.
