Chapter 37 Final Chapter Thirty-Six
2016

Addison eventually woke up. Her feet and wrists her bound behind her back again. She glanced around to find that Ian wasn’t anywhere to be found. She winced in pain as she moved slightly from the bash to her head. She sat up slowly and used the counter to get herself to her feet. She opened kitchen drawers, looking for something sharp to cut the cable ties off.

After using as much of her strength, she finally got her hands free. She was unsure where Ian was, so she tried to untie her feet as quick as possible. She listened out for Ian but there was nothing. No sounds. She rushed over by the front door and saw a telephone. It was old fashioned with a small rotary dial on the front. She used it to call Robert which he answered on first ring.

“Robert,” she puffed down the phone. She sighed with relief.

“Addison, where are you, we are heading towards their old house as we believe that was where he was holding you.” Robert told her.

“Yes, yes that is where I am. Please hurry.” She whispered.

“We are nearby, hang in there.” Robert hung up.

Addison listened out for Ian again. She looked out of the window to see his car is still outside. She moved to the bottom of the stairs to listen. She heard running water. She started to take each step at a time and stopped outside the master bedroom. Her hands were trembling as she headed into the bedroom. She stood outside of the bathroom and pushed the door open slowly. Addison could see the end of the bathtub which was full of red water. She stepped inside and saw Ian laying in the tub. His wrists were slit, and his blood poured into the water.

Addison reached over to check his pulse. He was still alive. She stood back up and glanced herself in the mirror. She didn’t know what to do. There was one thing on her mind. She put her hand on the top of Ian’s head and pushed him under the water. He didn’t put up a fight because he was unconscious and weak, but she had to finish the job. She held him under for a few minutes and then let go. His headed bobbed to the top and she leaned in putting her fingers to his neck, feeling for a pulse. There wasn’t one.

“That’s for Rebecca.” She whispered.

She went back downstairs and hid under the dining table when she heard a car pulling into the drive. She curled up into a ball as she listened, hoping it was Robert and Fletcher. She waited. The car doors slammed and there were footsteps on the pebbles outside the front. They headed towards the back and she jumped at the sound of a window smashing. Robert was the first one to come into the house. He noticed Addison hiding under the table and rushed to her side.

“Addison, it’s me.” Robert put his hand out for her. She climbed out with him and he guided her to the sofa. Fletcher came in a few moments after.

“Go and check the house.” He told Fletcher.

Fletcher made his way up the stairs slowly and looked in all the bedrooms. He got to the master bedroom and noticed the bathroom door open. He looked inside and saw Ian’s head bobbing below the water. The water was red.

“Robert,” he called. Robert came up the stairs and stood behind Fletcher, he glanced over to see Ian’s body.

“Have you checked for a pulse?” Robert asked.

Fletcher leaned over and used his two fingers to find a pulse from his neck. He glanced up at Robert and shook his head. Ian Reed was dead.

“Let’s go Nora and Charlie down here. We need a team as this is now a crime scene.” Robert left. He went back downstairs to Addison. She was still sitting on the sofa, trembling. He sat beside her and put his arm around her. She rested her head on his shoulder.

“You are safe now.” He whispered to her. She closed her eyes and thought about Ian’s dead body in the water.

An ambulance finally turned up that Robert called for Addison. The paramedics came in to check her over. They looked at her head and told her that she may need some stitches. The forensics team showed up shortly after and Nora Williams came into the room. She glanced at Robert as he had his arm around Addison.

“What happened?” Nora asked. She glanced around the house and noticed there was a small struggle in the kitchen. She nodded to her team and started to set up.

“Ian Evan’s also known as Alan Reed’s brother, Ian Reed.” Robert told Nora.

“He’s your killer?”

“He’s the one.”

“They were working together back when Alan was killing.” Addison spoke. Her voice was slightly croaky which surprised her.

“Bastard.” Nora hissed. She left the two of them and started shouting order to her team.

“We will need to take a statement from you.” Robert said.

“I know.”

“Ian Reed was found dead upstairs. It seems he killed himself just like his mother did. I assume that he did it where his mother did it too.” Robert assumed. Addison didn’t say anything and just nodded her head. “DCS Dowell will be the one to take your interview about Ian kidnapping you.” Robert explained. Addison nodded again.

The paramedics guided her to the back of the ambulance to take her in. Robert jumped in with her and went to the hospital together. They arrived and Addison was taken to a small room. A doctor came in and out of the room, checking her wound on her head. Robert stood by her the whole time. His phone started ringing and he left the room for a moment. The doctor started to do the stitches.

Robert came back into the room. He glanced at Addison and she wondered if they figured out that she killed Ian.

“DCS Dowell is coming over now. He is going to interview you. Also, Nora has found a pair of fingerprints on the knife and they belong to you.” Robert started.

“I didn’t kill him. We had a scuffle as we fought, and I grabbed the knife from him.” Addison explained.

“It’s okay. Wait until the DCS gets here and we will go through it together. It will be alright.” Robert tried to convince her.

“What will happen to me?”

“You may be suspended for a short time while they investigate. It will only take a couple of days. Everything will be fine.” Robert put his hand on her leg. She smiled.

DCS Dowell finally arrived at the hospital and entered Addison’s room. She went to get up, but he put his hand out for her to stop.

“No need,”

“Thank you, sir.” Addison greeted him with a nod.

“How are you feeling?” Dowell asked her.

“Just a bump to the head. I’ll be fine.” Addison smiled. Dowell grabbed a chair and moved closer to her. Robert stood in the corner of the room as he just listened.

“I wanted to take your statement straight away, while it’s still fresh on your mind. The sooner the better. You may know that you will be suspended for a couple of days as the forensics team investigate. You will be able to return once the case is closed.” He told her. She nodded in agreement and showed that she understood.

She began to tell him everything right from the beginning when she was 15 years old up until now. She told him everything in every bit of detail she could remember and the case files that she had taken. Everything poured from her mouth, apart from one thing.

She killed Ian Reed.
