Chapter 92 That is incredibly rude
Madison made herself breathe slow and deep. She always had to do that when Sienna’s father was involved. In the end, she chose to answer Caspian’s dad.

“Sir, I left work early yesterday because my boss told me I could. I had some other things to take care of. I don’t know where Mr. Gannon is right now, but if you let me, I can try calling around.”

It did not matter what she said. Mr. Vance would not back off.

“I called right after you sent those papers,” he shot back. “And you told me you were already closed for the day. That is incredibly rude.”

Madison worked hard to keep her voice level. “It was my boss’s order. I could not say no.”

“Do you see how she acts?” Mr. Vance said, turning to the others. He was getting mad, and Caspian’s brothers nodded along. They never liked how Madison spoke to them anyway.

Caspian never did anything about his secretary’s cold way of dealing with people. “It’s the same with Caspian himself. You need to let me put her in her place.”

Mr. Vance was getting louder, so Caspian’s father, Mr. Gannon, stepped in. He sounded annoyed.

“That’s enough, Jack. This is between us and Caspian. She only works for him. Madison,” he said, turning to her, his tone more polite now, “where do you think Caspian could be?”

Madison honestly did not know. She had come in at her normal time, but Caspian was almost always there before her.

If he was going to be late, he always told her first. It was weird that he had not done that today.

“I’m not sure, sir. But please, let me make some calls.”

She was careful not to say anything about what happened yesterday. She had no clue how Caspian wanted to handle that. She tried Lake’s mobile number, but it was off.

It occurred to Madison then that while Lake knew where she lived, she did not know his address. At least she had the number for his house. She dialed it.

She walked away from the angry group in her office just as someone picked up. A woman’s voice answered.

“Lake Chapman’s home. This is Leticia speaking. How can I assist you?”

“Hello, Leticia. My name is Madison. I work for Caspian Gannon, Mr. Chapman’s best friend. Could you tell me where Mr. Chapman is right now?”

The housekeeper on the other end did not pause. “He came home very late last night with his friend, who had too much to drink. They are both still asleep.”

Madison let out a breath she did not know she was holding. But she wondered what could have made Caspian get that drunk. He seemed perfectly fine when she left the restaurant with Sebastian. She had no idea what happened after that.

“Could you please go and knock on his door? Then give him the phone. This really can not wait,” Madison said. She kept her voice polite but let the urgency show.

“I will try,” the housekeeper replied.

It felt like a long time passed, nearly two minutes, before Lake’s rough, sleepy voice came on the line. “Madison? Is everything okay?”

Madison almost wanted to laugh, but there was no time. She got right to it.

“Lake, is Caspian with you? His whole family is here at the office. Sienna’s parents are here, too.”

Over at the Chapman house, Lake immediately wished he had not let Caspian drink so much. It was so bad he had to bring Caspian back to his place instead of letting him go home.

“Oh, fuck. He had a lot last night. He would not stop talking. I’ll tell him.”

Lake hung up and then nudged the man sleeping next to him. They had both gone to bed very late, but he had no choice.

“Caspian. Wake up.”

Caspian did not open his eyes. He was mumbling in his sleep. “Elara, I am not signing anything. Please, just come back.”

His eyes stayed closed the whole time.

Lake shook his head. He wondered how long Caspian had been talking in his sleep like this. Still, he shook Caspian again, harder this time.

“Caspian. There’s trouble at your office. You have to go in.”

Caspian’s eyes opened fast, but his stomach turned over. “I feel like shit,” he groaned. Lake knew it was from all the alcohol. He went to the bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet.

“I’ll get you something for your head.”

Caspian did not argue. He only started to feel a little better after taking the pills. He fell back against the pillows, thinking it was his own bed. “I need more sleep.”

Lake felt stuck. “Caspian, you have to go. Your parents, your brothers, and Sienna’s mom and dad are all at your office waiting for you.”

Hearing that made Caspian’s mood turn even darker. He had completely forgotten to call his parents after he told Madison to send those documents.

“Oh, fuck. Let me borrow something to wear. I need a shower.”

“Take anything from the closet. I’ll use the shower in the other room and have some coffee made.”

When Caspian was finished, Lake was ready too. He handed Caspian a mug of hot black coffee. Caspian took it and drank some right away.

His head was clear now, so he drove himself from Lake’s house to the office. When he walked in, the feeling in the room was heavy and tight.

“Caspian, where have you been? Why are you only getting here now?” His father asked. He did not look happy.

Caspian let his eyes move over everyone in the room without much care. But when he looked at the Vances, his expression went hard and cold.
