Chapter 2 - Unhealing

Chapter 2 - Unhealing
Anya's P.O.V.

Jordan holds my hand tightly as we go into the bar. I lead him over to the other bunnies, who are staring at me in shock.

"Ladies, I have met my mate. This is Jordan. He's a bear from the gang, the Rogue Misfit." I look at the man with Jordan. We hadn't been introduced yet. He's frozen, staring at one of the bunnies. When I look to see who he's looking at, I smile. It's Sydney, my second.

"Mate," they both say. Well, it looks like I'm not the only bunny mated to a misfit. This could prove rather interesting.

"What's your name?" Sydney looks him up and down with her arms crossed.

"I'm Dallas, and I'm a wolf," he says, taking a step toward her.

"I'm sorry, but we don't have time for this whole get-to-know-you bit; we have to ride, ladies. Someone attacked their gang using something that can prevent shifters from healing. Let's see if we can figure out what it is." The bunnies jump up and put on their jackets. Sydney has a lot of attitude, and I would love to see how this plays out with her and Dallas while I sit back with some popcorn, but that will have to come later.

Jordan pulls me into his arms and kisses me hard when we get outside. I should shove him off, but that's not going to happen. I want him, too, so I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him back. When he pulls away, he smiles and slides his hands over my bottom.

"I had to get that out of the way before we leave. It's sexy as hell that you're a biker. I want to take all of this leather off of you and claim every inch of your body." Damn, does he have to talk like that when we can't do anything about it? Wait a minute.

"How many women have you been with?" Most shifters wait for their mate, but he's a rogue. Sometimes, they have looser morals.

"I haven't been with any women. I've been waiting for you." I sigh in relief.

"Good, now let's go check on your men," I reply as I put on my helmet and climb onto my bike. I look over at Sydney, and she ignores Dallas as she puts on her helmet. Out of all of us, she's the bunny who has been hurt the most. We follow Jordan and Dallas out of the parking lot and down the road.

"Are you okay?"  I mindlink Sydney.

"Why did I have to meet my mate now?  I don't know if I'm ready for this.  What if he turns out to be an asshole, and I end up having to slit his throat?"  I chuckle, and so does she. She was hurt badly by her parents when she was only twelve years old. They sold her to an alpha of a wolf pack who planned to force her to be his mate. When he tried to force Sydney to have sex with him, she grabbed a knife, slit his throat, and ran away. She was on her own until one of the Biker Bunnies found her at the age of seventeen.

"Give him a chance, hun. He seems like a good guy. They're the Rogue Misfits. I bet they've had rough roads like the rest of us."  I had my own bad childhood, but I'm not going to hold that against Jordan.

"He's a wolf. Why does he have to be a wolf?"  She asks sadly.

"Yes, he's a wolf, and if he does anything to hurt you, we're all here to support you. However, he may be able to help you, Syd. Just talk to him."   We pull up to a narrow paved road. When we reach the end, there's a large house with a few smaller houses nearby. Several bikers run outside when we come to a stop. I swear their eyes are about ready to pop out of their heads when we remove our helmets, and they see we're women.

"Guys, these are the Biker Bunnies. They're doctors and nurses; they've come to help. This is Anya; she's my mate." Jordan puts his arm over my shoulders, and the sparks make me shiver. Dallas walks over to Sydney expectantly. She looks at me, and I smile when she rolls her eyes.

"Fine. I'm Sydney, and I'm his mate. If any of you touch any of us without our permission, I'm pretty good with knives. Just ask the last man I killed." The bunnies try not to chuckle. Sydney only killed one guy, but these men don't know that. One of the men starts laughing and looks at Dallas.

"Good luck with that one. You may need to tame this bunny or keep her in a cage." Sydney looks ready to attack the man when Dallas steps between them.

"Don't talk about my mate like that. She's perfect just the way she is. You're just jealous that you don't have a mate. I don't know who would want your sneaky fox ass, anyway."  Yep, Sydney is gone to us now.   With how she's looking at Dallas, I believe she's about ready to tackle him, but in a good way. She's a softie at heart for a man who stands up for his woman.

"The men are in here," Jordan says, leading me into the large house. The other bunnies follow behind us.  The house is decent; definitely, only men live here, but it's not terrible.  Jordan takes us to the living room.

There are five air mattresses on the floor with men lying on them. We spread out to assess the men. They all have stab wounds that aren't lethal, and in most cases, they would have already healed. However, the wounds look infected. I touch the man beside me, and he's burning up. The others are as well, and they're all unconscious. I have an uneasy feeling that I know what this is. I look up at Sydney when she and Dallas walk into the room.

"What's wrong?" She asks.

"I believe whoever attacked them had their knives laced with mycophenolate and Metaldehyde." Sydney puts her hand over her mouth and shakes her head.

"No. How? I killed him. You have to be mistaken." Tears start running down her face. Dallas hesitantly puts his arm around her, and Sydney turns to wrap her arms around him as she cries. Dallas looks at me in concern.

"Who is she talking about?" He asks while stroking her hair.

"Alpha Doug. He bought her from her parents when she was twelve and tried to rape her. She slit his throat and ran away. Mycophenolate and Metaldehyde were the combination he used to torture shifters. We thought he was dead."
