Biker Bunnies - Chapter 1 - The Bunnies
Biker Bunnies - Chapter 1 - The Bunnies
Anya's P.O.V.
"Are we ready to ride, ladies?" I ask the gang as we all start up our engines. We're an all-female biker gang of bunnies. Yes, I said bunnies, and I'm not talking about Playboy bunnies or Easter bunnies. We're bunny shifters, and we're all in our twenties. Our gang has dwindled in numbers because some of the women have found their mates, but there are still about twenty of us.
We ride down the street on our Harleys dressed all in black leather. Our gang jackets are black with a pink bunny and the words Biker Bunnies on the back. Another thing we all have in common is that two of us are doctors, and the rest are nurses. We care for both shifters and humans.
I'm twenty-five and one of the oldest of our gang. When the last leader found her mate, everyone asked me to take her place. I haven't found my mate yet, and I'm beginning to wonder if I ever will.
Just like most female bunny shifters, I'm petite, with a nice butt and decent breasts. I'm proud of my curves and show them off. Why shouldn't I? It doesn't mean I have to let anyone touch me, but it's nice to be noticed by men. I have long blonde hair and hazel eyes with a touch of pink.
We ride for about an hour to our favorite biker bar. Humans hang out there, and we like to let them flirt with us, thinking they actually have a chance. The parking lot is packed with many men standing next to their bikes. We park together and get off our bikes. After pulling off our helmets, we shake out our hair and let the men check us out. We can hear the whistling and catcalls, but we ignore them.
"Come on, bunnies," I say as I head to the bar's door. Some of the men try to speak to us, but we continue walking. When we get inside, we stop by the door and wait until all eyes are on us, and then we walk to a group of empty tables. After taking a seat, a waitress brings us a few pitchers of beer and glasses. She knows us well and knows what we want.
"Here you go, ladies. Let me know if you need anything else." Mel is an older human woman. She and her biker husband own the bar.
"Thanks, Mel," I say while pouring myself a glass of beer.
"So, what's the plan for today?" my second in command, Sydney, asks. She's a year younger than me, with long, straight black hair and dark brown eyes.
"I don't have any plans. Today, we're just going to take it easy," I answer her. When we're not working at the clinics, we typically volunteer to help homeless people and children in foster care.
All of us bunnies in the gang were orphans. Our parents either abandoned us or were killed when we were young. Unfortunately, that's common in our species, unlike other shifters. That's how the Biker Bunnies were formed. The first leader wanted us to make our own family.
We order some food, and just as it's being served, I hear a couple of bikes pulling up. That's not unusual at a biker bar, but my heart starts racing. My bunny, Tilly, starts hopping around in my head.
"What's wrong with you?" I mindlink her even though I feel like hopping, too. Why do I feel this way?
"Can't you smell him? Our mate just pulled up." She replies excitedly. Oh, crap. Our mate? I'm not ready to meet my mate. What if he doesn't want a bunny as a mate? Do I really want to be rejected here in front of everyone? I stand up, and Sydney grabs my arm.
"What's wrong?" She asks with concern.
"I'll be right back," I say, walking toward the door and taking a deep breath. When I step outside, I look around. Where is he?
I walk out a little further, and I see him. He's at least seven feet tall, with shoulder-length dark blonde hair and teal blue eyes. He's wearing a black leather jacket, black jeans, and biker boots. My mouth goes dry looking at him. He's staring at me with wide eyes as I walk toward him. I stop a few feet away, and at five feet two, I have to look up at him.
"Mate, " we say at the same time. I cross my arms and wait for the rejection, but he doesn't say anything.
"Who are you?" I hear someone ask and realize he's not alone. There's another man almost as tall with dark hair standing beside him.
"My name is Anya," I reply, looking back at my mate. He swallows a couple of times and looks me up and down.
"You're so small," he says. I put my hands on my hips and smirk.
"Have you ever thought that maybe you're just freakishly tall?" His friend starts laughing, and my mate joins him.
"I'm Jordan. Sorry about the small comment. It wasn't an insult, I swear." He holds his hand out to me, and I take it hesitantly. As soon as we touch, the sparks from the mate bond run through my body.
"What are you?" He asks, pulling me a little closer. I don't resist. Why would I? I've always wanted to go mountain climbing, and he's definitely a mountain.
"I'm a bunny. What about you?" I wait for him to laugh and let go of my hand, but he doesn't. His grip tightens as though he thinks I'm going to run away.
"I'm a grizzly bear. You're part of the Biker Bunnies, aren't you?" Jordan smiles at me, and I smile back.
"Yes. Are you solo riders, or are you in a gang?" From this angle, I can't see what his jacket says.
"We're the Rogue Misfits. Our gang is made up of a variety of shifters of all kinds. Most don't have families, or their families threw them out." He leans against his bike and pulls me so I'm standing between his long legs.
"So, Jordan, what do you think about being mated to a bunny?" I shouldn't let him think he has the upper hand here, but I'm not into playing hard to get, not with my mate, anyway.
"I think my favorite animal is a bunny. What about you? Are you okay with me being a bear?" Jordan links our fingers together, and I shiver with excitement from the way his touch feels.
"I've always wanted to cuddle a teddy bear." I'm preparing to kiss him when I hear someone clear their throat. Turning, I see the man Jordan came with.
"Uh, as happy as I am for you, we need to go." I look at Jordan, and he looks worried.
"What's wrong? Where do you have to go?" Please don't let them be one of those gangs that go around robbing and hurting people. I'm not getting that vibe from him, but my head is all over the place from the mate bond.
"We were attacked, and a few of our men were hurt. We only stopped here to see if there were any other shifters here who knew a shifter doctor." I look at him, confused.
"If they're shifters, why do they need a doctor?" I question him.
"Whoever attacked us knew we were shifters, and whatever they used won't let the wounds heal." I pull him toward the bar.
"Let me get my girls. I'm a doctor, and so is one of the others. The rest are nurses. We'll go with you." I don't like the sound of this. Who would be attacking a shifter gang, and what are they using to prevent them from healing?
