Chapter 39 — Danger?
Alex POV:
“Is he Robert or John?” Max asked and I furrowed my eyebrows. Is that still a confusion? I thought we were pretty clear on this path.
“Why do you doubt it?” I asked. He sighed.
I went and sat across from him on the couch.
“We don’t know anything, that is true. But maybe he is John because Robert didn’t have any type of disease”
“yeah, that makes sense” I sighed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked me.
“Nothing. It is just…I don’t even have Robert now”
Max sighed. “It is okay, I am here, brother. Moreover, he is gonna be fine soon. As for your wife, let’s make a plan”
I looked at him. “Do you think any plan would work?”
“It can,” He smiled. “She loves you”
I nodded. “That would be so good then”
“Hm. For now, don’t sit here. Let’s go to her house. I will wait outside, and you will go inside.”
“What will I say?” I asked him, but he just got up.
“The truth.”
“She knows it. She knows everything but still—”
“Talk to her once, tell her you are sorry.”
I nodded. “Worth a shot.”
We both went out of the house and to my car. He sat beside me, and I drove to Summer’s house.

Hailey POV:
“What do you mean?” I asked her, shocked.
“Maybe Alex really isn't the father” she looked down. “Maybe he is right—”
“Summer, what are you even talking about?”
She sighed. “I don’t know. He is right. I was drunk that night in the bar, and he brought me home later. But I don’t know what happened before he brought me home.”
I looked at her shocked and sighed. “Uh, Summer. don’t worry, I am sure—”
She cut me off. “You can’t be sure.”
I sighed.
She nodded. “I will be back.” I got up and left her room.
As much as her words were roaming in my head, I remembered my work. I haven’t gone to work for two days, and I don’t know how the company is doing.
As I went down, I suddenly heard the doorbell ring.
I opened the door and was shocked to see Alex.
“Hey,” I said to him, and he sighed.
“Hello.”
“Why…uh, how are you here?”
“I wanna talk to Summer.”
“But she—”
“Please.” He sighed and looked around. “Let me ask for forgiveness one more time.”
I sighed. I can’t convince him.
“Okay.” I looked up. “By the way, I am heading out then. I will return after work.”
“Okay.”
I nodded and then he went inside.
I walked out and saw Max sitting in Alex’s car. I walked to him.
“Max.”
He looked at me and immediately came out. “Hey, Mrs. Hailey!”
“Hey. I just wanted to say…it is, like, so good to have you back…but…how?”
“I promise once Robert gets well, I will explain everything.”
I sighed and nodded. “Okay. I will wait.”
he nodded and then I went to my car. After thinking about a few things, I drove off to my company.
I reached my company building. As I stepped in, a few people greeted me.
A small smile took over my lips. I went to my office. There were a few formalities left to be completed and a few contracts left to be signed.
I was happy there was no meeting anytime soon. I don’t know if I would have been able to take the stress. This all is enough to already kill me alive.
After I completed my duties in almost half an hour, I headed out of my office. One of the employees approached me.
“Hello, Mrs. Hailey. I had a few suggestions…”
I looked at the girl interestingly. “Yeah, continue?”
“As you must have been busy lately, one of the biggest investors wanted to meet you and discuss if the contract should be continued. I was suggesting that maybe you could keep an assistant who would help you…”
I sighed. “Uh, okay. But who can be my assistant?”
“Maybe I can be? I always wanted to be one. Of course, if you are happy with my work…”
“Yes, sure! I would really like your help. Please manage the work a little and also inform me what the meeting is gonna be”
“It is not yet decided, boss but it would be three days later”
“Ah, boss,” I laughed. “Yeah, okay. Thank you”
“My pleasure”
she smiled lovingly and I returned the smile. Then I slowly walked out of the company.
As I walked out, I saw a car. I ignored it and went to mine, but suddenly someone grabbed me from behind and covered my mouth. I could hear guns firing. I could not even grasp what was happening when I was stuffed into the car’s back seat. Someone covered my eyes and mouth as the car started.
