CHAPTER NINETEEN
One look at the picture and Kayden already knew who it was. But upon realization, she was more than shocked. Amanda was Zane’s Wilson’s younger sister? He almost couldn’t believe it until he had remembered the first he had met her on the rooftop. She had been talking to someone and he was sure she did mention Zane while she was talking. And their conversation about her brother confirmed it.
He glanced at the picture again and he couldn’t help the feeling of jealousy that coursed through him seeing her feed her elder brother. He squeezed the phone as he bit down on his lip. He looked up and saw Amanda walking into the café. She hadn’t come to school and he had asked to see her concerning their assignments and she had picked a café near the Wilson Corporations to meet.
“Heyyyy” Amanda said with a smile as she sat down.
“I thought we already finalized everything about the assignment yesterday at school” Amanda said as she stared at Kayden who was staring at her in a weird way.
“What’s wrong?” Amanda asked.
“Why didn’t you come to school today?” Kayden asked as Amanda swallowed her saliva.
“I told you earlier, I’m not feeling too well” Amanda replied as Kayden frowned.
“But you were fine till yesterday evening” Kayden said as Amanda gulped.
“Can’t I sleep and be ill when I’m awake?” Amanda asked as Kayden nodded.
“Of course you can. I’m just wondering what could have happened for you to have fallen sick overnight” Kayden said as he arched his head sideways.
“Did you eat street food?” Kayden asked as Amanda swallowed her saliva.
“That’s not your business. Where’s the assignment?” Amanda asked as she looked around and realized that except his phone and headsets, Kayden hadn’t brought anything else. Seeing the picture showing on his phone she chuckled as she glanced at him.
“Why are you here Kayden?” Amanda asked her voice cold as Kayden smiled at her.
“Because I was curious” Kayden replied and Amanda nodded.
“Hmm… curious about what has nothing to do with you?” Amanda asked as she laughed.
“I know you aren’t in the least curious. You are just here to confirm if I am Amanda Wilson or not, isn’t it?” Amanda asked and seeing the slight blank look on Kayden’s face, she chuckled.
“You came here to question my identity isn’t it? My name is Amanda Wilson and so I am. What’s all the fuss?” Amanda asked as Kayden opened his mouth to talk but Amanda raised her hand to shut him up.
“Don’t bother” Amanda said as Kayden sighed.
“Why are you hiding your identity? Nobody knows who you are” Kayden asked as Amanda chuckled.
“Who do you think you are to ask me that question? What are we?” Amanda asked as something flashed in Kayden’s eyes as he swallowed his saliva.
“Friends. I thought we were friends” Kayden replied in a low voice and Amanda nodded.
“I thought so too but I don’t think my friend wold treat me like a criminal, deceiving me and interrogating me as if I were a criminal” Amanda said as Kayden swallowed his saliva.
“I didn’t mean it that way” Kayden said as Amanda snickered.
“That’s exactly what it looks like” Amanda replied as they both went quiet as Kayden chuckled.
“Different events, same lines but the roles are reverse” Kayden muttered as he stood up.
“I apologise for what I did. I am sincerely sorry. I’ll take my leave now, there’s nothing someone like you has to do with someone like me” Kayden said as he strolled out of the café with his hands clenched.
Amanda stared into space as he swallowed her saliva and gulped. She wiped the lone tear that slid down her cheeks as she stood up and walked out of the café as well.
Harley curled on her bed as she kept reading the news on her phone again. She had never felt so worst in her entire life.
The girl was his sister!
The revelation was more shocking than she had anticipated. She hadn’t allowed him to explain. The dazed and hurt look on his face when she had told him that they shouldn’t see each other again was imprinted in his mind and each second she remembered it, she could feel her heart breaking into different pieces.
“You should have been patient at least” Joanne said as she rubbed her forehead.
“Maybe you should have checked your phone if anything. I called you multiple times but you didn’t pick my calls or reply my text messages and now here we are” Joanne muttered as she rubbed her forehead.
“You’ve taking too many irrational decisions recently Harley” Joanne said as she folded her arms.
“I really don’t know” Joanne added as she watched Harley bury her head into the sheets as she cried.
“You have a gala this night, as one of the main artiste; your presence is compulsory” Joanne said as she rubbed her head.
“Should I find an excuse for you?” Joanne asked as Harley shook her head.
“Prepare for it” Harley whispered.
“In this condition?” Joanne asked.
All the Directors of WC could only shiver in fear as they watched Zane flip through the huge documents in front of him. Everyone could tell that he was annoyed. The irritation he was feeling was emanating from him and everyone could only wish they wouldn’t be the scape goat.
“What’s this?” Zane asked as he flung the file towards the directors.
“What the hell is all this?” he asked as he stood up.
“You all have 24 hours to reorganize your department reports and bring it again else, you can as well drop your resignation letters in advance” Zane said as he stormed out of the conference room.
While walking behind him, Dylan tried to make less sounds as possible. He swallowed her saliva a she started talking.
“Mr Fedick has asked me to inform you to accompany him to the gala tonight” Dylan said as Zane frowned lightly.
“What time is the gala?” Zane asked.
“8pm” Dylan replied as Zane walked into his office.
Dylan sighed as he rubbed his forehead while he sat down in his seat. Throughout the years he had been working for Zane, he could easily count the amount of times that Zane had gotten actually angry. Half of the time, instead of him to get angry, he would be very indifferent about it or rather very calm but this time around, Dylan knew his anger came from pain and hurt but he knew there was nothing he could do about it.
It was the person he loved and liked the most that had hurt him, except her there was nothing he could do about it. Dylan offered a piece of prayer for the oldies that Zane would be meeting in the party because he was that if anyone of them tried to get on Zane’s nerves, he wouldn’t spare them.
Zane gave the older man a small smile as he bowed as he clicked glasses with the older man.
“I will be drinking for President Fedick today” he said with a smile as the old men burst into laughter.
“What a nice young man”
“I should introduce you to my daughter”
“I should introduce you to my daughter”
The crowd seem to part all of sudden revealing a woman and a man holding hand sin the middle of the room. Everyone started murmuring and fawning over them and the woman and Zane’s eyes met for a second before Zane turned his face as he sipped his drink.
“They always look very good together”
“But I heard they aren’t dating and they are just friends”
“Friends?”
“Yes”
“Why is he the one always accompanying her during every gala and dinner? He has always been the one”
“Really?”
“Yes, how can you now call the both of friends?”
“Do they look like friends to you because they don’t to me”
“They are more like a couple”
“You are right”
“He’s always so attentive towards her”
“Do you think its one-sided?”
“One-sided?”
“I don’t think so”
“She hasn’t has any boyfriend over the years. Only him, how can it be one-sided?”
“You are very observant of them”
“Of course I am”
“I’m a big fan of both of them”
“They do look good together”
“I even heard that he turned one down his mom’s offer of a wife”
“Who didn’t hear that news?”
“We all heard it”
“I bet Harley is waiting for him to ask her to marry him”
“I know right”
“Their children are going to be so cute”
“How do you even know that?”
“Look at Patrick and Harley’s faces and then imagine what kind of children they are going to have. You don’t even have to imagine; you should already know that they are going to be beautiful set of children”
“I’m so envious of them”
“They look way too good with each other”
“Who knows maybe they are dating and getting ready to get married already?”
