Chapter 239

[Ms. Jones is just too kind. Even after everything Gloria did to her, she still repays evil with good and speaks up for Gloria.]

[Ms. Jones looked stunning in her wedding dress. Did she design it herself? I haven't seen anything like it in stores!]

[Ms. Jones is beautiful inside and out. Seeing this makes me feel even worse for her. If Gloria had any conscience, she'd come out and apologize publicly!]

At Vincent's apartment.

Gloria sat on the couch in the living room, her eyes glued to her phone screen.

She had been bedridden for days and couldn't stand it any longer. It was almost lunchtime, so she had the maid help her to the couch.

As she settled in, Gloria grabbed her phone.

She hadn't had the energy to follow the online buzz since last night.

She had no idea how things had developed.

Taking a deep breath, Gloria braced herself and unlocked her phone.

To her surprise, the trending topics about her had been taken down.

In their place was the hashtag #Amara Speaks Out.

Gloria had a gut feeling it was related to her and clicked on it. Sure enough, she was right.

With just a few words, Amara had won the unanimous support of netizens.

The incident from three years ago had a huge impact, involving both the Windsor and Russell families.

When it first happened, Gloria had seen the online discussions.

To them, it was like a plot straight out of a novel, with two women fighting over one man.

Amara was the pure, kind, and weak heroine.

And she, Gloria, was the ruthless, villainous antagonist.

Naturally, everyone wanted to see the villain punished.

No one questioned why Amara had waited until now to speak out, after the story had been brewing online for a whole day and night.

Gloria was puzzled too.

Why had Amara gone to such lengths to expose her, only to stop the buzz from growing further?

"Ms. Russell, lunch is ready." The maid's voice interrupted her thoughts.

Gloria snapped back to reality, nodded, and carefully made her way to the dining table with the maid's help.

The maid thoughtfully set the table for her before returning to her duties.

After lunch, Gloria had the maid prepare a guest room for her to stay in.

She thought for a moment and then called Lila.

The call was quickly answered.

"Ms. Russell? Where are you? I was just about to call you. How are you doing?"

Lila didn't follow online news much and had gone to bed early. She only found out about Gloria's situation this morning.

Upon learning that Gloria was hospitalized, she rushed to the hospital without even calling, only to be told that Gloria was no longer there.

Panicked, she finally thought to call Gloria.

To her surprise, Gloria called first.

Hearing the concern in Lila's voice, Gloria felt a pang of guilt. "I'm fine. I'm at Vincent's place now. Sorry to make you worry."

Lila was confused. "With Mr. Adams?"

The news had said Gloria was with Sebastian.

Gloria didn't explain further. "I'll send you the address. Could you bring me a couple of outfits? I'll be staying here for a few days."

She had been sweating from her fever and wanted to take a shower but realized she had no clean clothes.

On the other end, Lila's thoughts wandered. "Ms. Russell, you and Mr. Adams..."

Gloria knew what she was thinking. "It's not what you think. I'm sick, and Vincent offered to let me stay here to recover."

Lila remembered the photo she had seen of Sebastian carrying Gloria into the hospital and didn't ask further. "Alright, I'll go to your place and pack some clothes."

After hanging up, Gloria sent Vincent's address to Lila.

Not long after, Lila arrived at the apartment with two bags of clothes.

Seeing Gloria's pale face, Lila was heartbroken. "How did you get so sick? Your leg injury hasn't even healed yet. I should stay and take care of you."

Gloria smiled reassuringly. "It's nothing serious, just a fever. Vincent has already given me medicine. I'll be staying here for a couple of days, and he'll take care of me if anything happens."

Lila was still worried. "You should go to the hospital for a thorough check-up."

Though Vincent was a skilled doctor, Gloria's condition seemed serious enough to warrant a hospital stay.

Gloria shook her head. "It's not safe for me to go to the hospital right now."

Lila recalled the news she had just read.

Even though Amara had clarified things, Gloria's release from prison was now widely known in Majestic City.

It wasn't safe for Gloria to go anywhere.

Lila felt relieved that Vincent had returned from abroad. At least there was someone to take care of Gloria during this critical time.

She wanted to stay with Gloria.

But Gloria didn't want to impose on Vincent any further. She already felt bad enough staying as a guest, let alone bringing someone to take care of her.

"No need. You should go home. The maid here is very attentive." She declined Lila's offer.

Lila couldn't insist and reluctantly left after reminding Gloria to contact her if she needed anything.

With clean clothes, Gloria took a quick shower and felt much better.

Late at night, Vincent returned home, exhausted from a surgery.

Seeing Gloria quietly sitting on the couch, he was momentarily surprised.

"Vincent." Gloria turned her head at the sound.

Seeing the look on Vincent's face, she frowned in confusion. "What's wrong?"

Vincent snapped out of it and shook his head. "Nothing. How are you feeling today?"

Gloria put down her book. "I felt better after taking the medicine at noon."

She didn't forget to mention, "By the way, I had Lila bring me some clothes. I forgot to tell you."

She had meant to message Vincent but realized she didn't have his contact information.

Fortunately, Vincent didn't mind. "Why didn't Lila stay for dinner?"

Gloria replied, "I sent her home. The maid here is taking good care of me."

Vincent nodded slightly.

The maid called them for dinner.

Vincent washed his hands and joined Gloria at the table.

Seeing him sit down, Gloria started eating.

She didn't have much of an appetite due to her illness and ate slowly.

But compared to their last meeting at the hospital, Vincent could see glimpses of the Gloria from three years ago.

"I thought you'd avoid me." He spoke casually.

Gloria looked up and smiled at him. "Didn't you say we could be like we used to be?"
