Chapter 238

The office was wrapped in a heavy silence.

Lucas had no clue what was going through Sebastian's mind.

Gloria had been out of prison for a while now, but Sebastian never talked about her time there.

Then, after Gloria visited Patrick in prison, Sebastian suddenly asked Lucas to dig into those years.

Lucas was floored by what he uncovered.

Sebastian seemed just as shocked by the medical records. They were both stunned by what Gloria had endured.

"Where are those people now?" Sebastian asked, his voice cold as ice.

Lucas felt a chill run down his spine. "Some are still locked up, and some have been released."

He watched Sebastian closely, trying to read his intentions. "Mr. Windsor, do you want me to track down the ones who are out?"

Sebastian's eyes were dark. "Yes."

Lucas nodded and left the office.

The silence returned.

Sebastian lowered his gaze, reviewing Gloria's prison medical records, recalling the doctors' notes on her illnesses and injuries.

Everything pointed to Gloria having a tough time in prison.

But he had chosen to ignore it.

A part of Sebastian felt like he'd been punched, making it hard to breathe.

He couldn't understand why Gloria hadn't reported the dangers she faced.

He hadn't heard anything about her in the past three years.

Sebastian's doubts grew.

He figured he'd get answers once Lucas found the released criminals.

Sebastian wasn't in a rush.

He locked the findings in his office safe.

Just as he locked it, Nathan called.

"Where are you?" Nathan's voice was demanding.

"At the courthouse," Sebastian replied.

Nathan's displeasure was clear, his voice dropping several degrees, barely containing his anger. "The chief judge has already suspended you. Why are you still at the courthouse? Are you abusing your position as the Windsor Group heir? Get to the company immediately! Your court job is on hold. You need to focus on the Windsor Group! You're going to inherit it eventually!"

After yesterday's events, Nathan had expected to see Sebastian at the company today.

Given his suspension, Nathan thought Sebastian wouldn't let himself be idle.

But to his surprise, Sebastian hadn't shown up at the company.

Everyone he asked said Sebastian hadn't been there.

Nathan was already unhappy with Sebastian's lack of attention to the Windsor Group. The chief judge's message that Sebastian had gone to the courthouse again only fueled his anger.

Moreover, the chief judge hinted that Sebastian was investigating something at the courthouse.

Nathan contacted Sebastian as soon as he found out.

In the office, Sebastian sensed Nathan's anger and quickly guessed why.

He locked the safe and returned to his desk. "The chief judge called you?"

He couldn't think of any other reason Nathan would contact him.

Nathan's voice was cold after a few seconds. "He can't control you, so he turned to me. Sebastian, taking Gloria to the hospital yesterday already hurt the Windsor Group's reputation. If you keep ignoring court rules and this gets out, how are you gonna handle the fallout?"

Sebastian frowned. "You really don't want me working at the courthouse, do you?"

Ever since he decided to enter politics and join the court, Nathan had been against his career choice.

This time, Nathan seemed eager to use yesterday's incident to push him out of his judge position.

Nathan didn't hide his feelings, his voice even angrier. "Of course I don't! You're the Windsor Group's sole heir, and you're neglecting the company to focus on the courthouse! People your age are already leading their own ventures, yet I'm still holding up the Windsor Group alone! I'm old! How long will it take for you to realize that? Have you forgotten how many times you promised to resign and come back?"

Sebastian stayed silent.

To buy time, he had promised Nathan multiple times that he would return to the Windsor Group after finishing his current work.

But he thought Nathan would understand his repeated delays meant he didn't want to return.

Or maybe Nathan knew but insisted on making him come back.

"Got it. I'll be there soon." Sebastian agreed, considering these thoughts.

Nathan was still dissatisfied. "Come back now!"

Sebastian acknowledged, and Nathan lectured him a bit more before hanging up.

In the office, Sebastian glanced at the untouched files on his desk, his eyes darkening.

Court files couldn't be taken out, so he had to come to the courthouse daily to review them.

If he had to go to the company...

Sebastian left his office and looked at the one next door.

A colleague happened to come out and saw him, pausing in surprise. "Judge Windsor?"

Sebastian approached him.

The man, intimidated by Sebastian's presence, felt uneasy. "Is something wrong?"

Sebastian grabbed his ID badge. "I need to borrow this for two days."

Without waiting for a response, Sebastian took the badge.

By the time the man wanted to say something, Sebastian had already walked away with it.

The man looked at his empty chest, bewildered.

The public discussion lasted a day and a night before Amara clarified things.

In just half an hour, her post went viral.

[Thank you all for your concern about my relationship with Sebastian. The woman in his arms was indeed Ms. Russell, but I was aware of it.]

[After what happened three years ago, nothing is more important than life and death. Even if someone did something wrong in the past, it's not a reason to let them die]

[They have no relationship now, and our wedding is approaching. I believe it won't be long before I share our wedding news with you.]

Her long post included a few pictures.

One was Amara's hospital record, another was her trying on a wedding dress, and the last was a family dinner with the Windsor family.

The three photos clearly declared her position as Sebastian's wife.

Soon, the public's attention shifted from Gloria to Amara and Sebastian's wedding.
