CHAPTER 24
Carter The day has come for me to be done with the high school thing. I’m truly happy to leave it behind. I know some of my friends are sad to leave behind the walls of our private school, but I'm thrilled. I never cared about being popular, or well liked it just happened. Sure, it was nice and there were benefits to it, but in the end, I know it doesn’t matter.
Everything I thought I knew has been turned upside down the moment Emmy told me she was a witch. I didn’t think magic was real, but it’s very real. I’m about to enter the magical world when I go to train with Emmy and her friends to fight some big evil. I thought things like that only happened in movies, but I thought very wrong. In fact, most of what I thought was wrong. There is a whole other world hidden within the human world. I wouldn’t have thought it possible but slowly I’m learning that the impossible is possible.
I sit in the rows of graduates, waiting for my name to be called. Once I’m called, I go up to grab my diploma, the thing that says I’m free from secondary education. I shake hands with the principle, pose for a picture, and head off stage. I’m free. Senior year was officially done and over with. I was free to do what I wanted, and I wanted to be with Emmy.
My parents aren’t too happy that I am not going to college, but in the end, I convinced them it was okay for me to take a year off to find myself. I couldn’t very well tell them that I was going to be learning to fight, so I could help save the magic world, and in turn save the human world too. Yeah, I would get put in a mental hospital.
There’s a huge after party at the Chase house. My parents are there along with many other parents and students. Everyone is laughing and having fun. I’m enjoying my last moments with my friends before we all go our separate ways. Soon they would be off in college, and I would be somewhere fighting an unknown evil with my soulmate. I was sure I’d make friends with the people I’d be living with. I’m an easy person to get along with and I’m all about making new friends.
Emmy has snuck off. This whole thing is really taking a toll on her. She wants to be brave, but I think she is coming undone slowly. She won't admit it, but I know she is on edge. Vivian told Emmy she was to be the leader of the group, that it was her destiny. She has always been the girl to fade into the background, and now all eyes would be on her. I know it would drive her mad. I’ll do whatever I can to help her and most importantly be there for her.
The party ends, and I go for one last ride with Evan on our bikes. We got our license in the winter and as soon as spring hit, we got our bikes. I love my Harley Davidson. Evan got a Kawasaki. We go for rides as often as we could and since I was leaving in a week for training and Evan was heading to Mexico to start off his summer bash, we were going for one more ride. I’m bringing my bike and car with me along with my drums and guitar. These are things I must have with me. They keep my sane.
The weekend is filled with graduation parties. Everyone is ready to start the next chapter of their lives. The next chapter for me is filled with so many uncertainties. So many things could go wrong, but at the same time I’m excited to see where this new unexpected path would lead me. I don't know what would happen or if I would survive this, but I’d be with Emmy and that’s all that matters to me. Emmy is my world. I know I’m in love with her.
If someone told me a few months ago, I would be with the girl of my dreams and that she was a witch with a destiny to save the world, I would have thought that person was crazy. I didn’t think magic, love, soulmates or witches were even real, but what I knew had been shattered, and a new truth had taken its place. I’m ready for whatever is next. The revelation is freeing as I coast down the highway speeding my way to the next chapter of my life.
