Chapter 39: Support system
Days grew into weeks and I soon became bored of just staying home and looking, I then decided to confront Alex to find me a job. I met him sitting at the room busy with something as I cleared my throat.
"Hello, Alex. I have a favour to ask, is it possible I get a work around here, I'm kind of tired siting home and doing nothing, I also want to work".
Alex looked down at my protruding tummy and I knew what he was talking about.
"Lola, you are quite heavy and I don't want you to work with quite an heavy stomach. After putting to bed, we can talk about that then. I wasn't satisfied with that response so I kept pressuring him till he replied.
"Okay, you know what?, I will take you for a check up at the hospital, if the doctor deem you fit, I will look for a job for you, but if he refuses, you stay. I nod my head happily as I went to tell Kira about the news. Besides the fact that I will be going to the hospital I get to see what it looks like and how a doctor is, she offered to accompany me but Alex said it was better if we went only so she stayed behind .
Lola entered the hospital with wide eyes, her heart pounding with excitement and a touch of nervousness. The clean, white walls stretched high, and the floors seemed to shine. Nurses bustled about, their uniforms crisp and bright.
She followed the signs to the maternity ward, clutching the appointment slip in her hand. As she entered the room, she marveled at the array of machines and equipment. There were beds with monitors and screens, each one looking like a spaceship control panel.
The nurse greeted her warmly and guided her to one of the beds. Lola laid down, her eyes scanning the room, taking in every detail. She watched in fascination as the nurse efficiently prepared the equipment for the checkup.
The nurse gently applied gel on her belly and then placed a small device with a screen on it. Lola's heart raced as she saw the blurry image of her baby on the screen. It was a magical moment, seeing that tiny form moving within her.
The nurse explained each step of the checkup in a calm and reassuring voice. Lola listened intently, absorbing every word. She felt grateful for the care and expertise of the medical team.
After the checkup, Lola couldn't help but express her awe. "This place is amazing," she said, her eyes still fixed on the screen. "I never imagined all this technology."
The nurse smiled warmly. "We're here to make sure you and your baby receive the best care possible," she said. "It's a privilege to be a part of this journey with you."
Dr. Hernandez, a kind-faced woman with a reassuring smile, entered the room. She greeted Lola warmly and reviewed the checkup results on the screen.
"Well, Lola," Dr. Hernandez began, "everything looks great. Your baby is healthy, and you're doing well."
Lola beamed with relief and gratitude. "That's wonderful to hear, Dr. Hernandez."
The doctor continued, "Based on the results, there's no medical reason for you to refrain from work. Of course, it's important to listen to your body and take breaks when needed, but there's no need for any restrictions at this point."
Lola's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? I wasn't sure what to expect."
Dr. Hernandez nodded understandingly. "It's natural to have concerns, but every pregnancy is different. As long as you feel comfortable and your work environment is safe, you can continue your regular activities."
Lola felt a mixture of relief and gratitude wash over her. She thanked the doctor profusely, feeling reassured and empowered.
As they left the hospital, Lola couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of confidence. Knowing that she could continue working while carrying her precious cargo filled her with a deep sense of pride and determination. She vowed to take good care of herself and her growing baby, grateful for the support of the medical team and the newfound knowledge that she was capable of balancing both work and motherhood.
With a skip in her step, Lola exited the hospital and couldn't wait to share the good news. She reached for Alex phone and dialed Kira's number, her heart fluttering with excitement.
"Hey, Kira!" Lola's voice bubbled with enthusiasm. "You won't believe it! The checkup went amazingly well, and the doctor said I'm fit for work!"
Kira's joyful gasp echoed through the phone. "Oh, Lola, that's fantastic news! I'm so happy for you!"
"And there's more," Lola continued, unable to contain her excitement. "Guess what? Alex helped me secure a job!"
Kira's voice was filled with genuine excitement. "Alex did? That's incredible! You're on a roll, Lola!"
Lola couldn't help but chuckle. "I know, right? I feel so blessed. It's like everything's falling into place."
As they chatted, Lola could sense Kira's genuine happiness for her. They discussed the details of the new job and Lola's plans moving forward. Kira offered her support and promised to be there every step of the way.
After the call, Lola felt a surge of gratitude for the people who had stood by her side. She took a moment to reflect on how fortunate she was to have people like Kira and Alex in her life, and she couldn't wait to embark on this new chapter, knowing she had a strong support system behind her.
Over the next few days, Lola's excitement and anticipation grew. She met with Alex to go over the details of her new job, and he offered valuable advice and encouragement. His support was invaluable, and Lola felt a deep sense of gratitude for his kindness.
Lola also leaned on Kira for advice and companionship. They spent evenings chatting about motherhood, swapping stories, and preparing for the exciting journey ahead. Kira's wisdom and words were a source of comfort for Lola, strengthening their bond even further.
