MAKE THEM REGRET
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
DIANA
Crash! The tray I was holding fell to the ground and everything shattered, the noise forced me to back to the present, and I looked up to see that three pairs of eyes were on me.
One filled with mockery, one calculating, and the one carried a hint of car.
"I....I'm sorry....I'll get someone to clean this up...." I managed to say.
My hands were shaking, as memories of what Dylan had done to me had come back in full force. I was sure that I was suffering from some form of PTSD.
The months after my husband's death had put me through immense torture, after all.
"What the heck is wrong with you? Is this how you do your job? By zoning out during an important meeting?" Slyvia's mocking voice was soon heard, but I ignored it.
She was the least of my worries now. Dylan Rodd....he was all the way over in Lakeview city, and I was here.
I really hoped I never had to see that man in my life again.
He had given me scars I didn't think I would ever heal from .
.....
When I returned back to clean the office, Slyvia and her assistant were already gone, to my relief.
I really didn't want to deal with Slyvia anymore today .
Chris ignored me, and so I started cleaning. I usually felt cold whenever he treated me like I was air, but today, I welcomed the silence.
It allowed me to collect my thoughts and fight off the bad feelings that the mention of Dylan's name had given me.
However, Chris had no intentions of just leaving me alone, it seemed.
"What does he like?" He suddenly asked me.
"What?" I looked up, confused, as I had no idea what he was talking about.
He had been writing something, but then the pen stopped and Chris' eyes met mine.
My mouth went dry, as I stared at his handsome face. At that moment, I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if I had been braver.
Would we have been able to get through the difficulties while holding each others hands? Or would something terrible had happened to him because of me?
"Dylan Rodd," Chris mentioned the name again, and I froze.
His gaze lingered on me for a few seconds, and I thought he was going to ask me something else.
He didn't though, and I had no idea if I should be thankful for that.
"I...I don't know what you're talking about" I forced myself to say as I lowered my head .
I didn't want Chris to see the fear on my face, and worse, I didn't want him to know that that person still had a lot of effect on me after all of the things that had happened.
"What? I want to know his preferences and the things Dylan likes. He was your brother in law, right?" Chris asked.
My hands stopped moving, and the realization that Chris figured out the relationship between us dawned on me.
I really didn't want to answer this question. The things Dylan liked? Of course, it was torturing weak women and making life difficult for them!
"Dylan and I were never close, and so I have no idea what he likes," I forced myself to say.
"Is that so?" I heard footsteps, and when I looked up, Chris was standing in front of me.
"I..." He grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at his face.
Chris was studying my expression, and my heart was racing fast against my chest as I tried to act calm.
"Why do I feel like there's something you're keeping from me?" He asked me.
"You're thinking too much," I said and turned my face away.
However, Chris who was still holding my chin forced me to look at him once again.
"No, you're definitely hiding something," he said.
Pissed off, I slapped Chris' hand away .
"I already told you that I don't know anything! As your assistant, do I also have to work as a spy? Dylan and I never met much when I was married to James, " I said.
This was the truth. I never got to know much of my brother in law until James died.
It was then I found out the kind of monster Dylan was.
"If you say so," Chris mused and walked away from me.
I watched his back, trying to figure out what he wanted from me.
He had been questioning me so intensely just a while ago, and now he was going to let it go? It didn't make sense to mee at all.
"You should prepare, we'll be going on a business trip soon," Chris suddenly threw these words at me.
"What?" I blinked my eyes, confused.
A business trip out of nowhere?
"Since you know nothing about Dylan Rodd, I have to convince him to sell the land to me in person," he said.
.......
"It's just a business trip, why do you look like someone is forcing you to commit a crime?" Amanda was by my side as I packed up for the business trip a few days later.
I had been feeling terrible these past few days, and as the day arrived, I could not stop the terrible feeling in my chest. .
I glanced at her and sighed, how was I supposed to explain to her that the thought of seeing Dylan again made me sick?
Amanda still had no idea what had really happened to me back in that place.
She just knew that I had been mistreated, and I wanted to keep it that way.
My life there was not something that I wanted to recount at all.
"It's just.....it's a place I left, so I feel awful going back. Besides....I'll be seeing....James brother again," I told her.
"And so what? I am sure that they are going to be blown away when they see you with Chris. They'd definitely regret treating you terribly!"
