Chapter 74: The only thing I can't stop wanting!!!
Amara's POV
It's been over three weeks since the incident at the strategy meeting and after telling Lila, I expected a lot of drama to ensue, but Lucas has been treating me normally.
He stares at me apologetically and speaks to me in a friendly manner, but he's only spoken to me twice in the three weeks since then, and even if I've tried to avoid or deny it, I've been thinking about him often.
I even went as far as asking Lila to ask Andrew if Lucas had said anything, but he said that he hadn't.
I was scared to tell Lila, because I thought she'd judge me for it, but she completely understood and didn't even scold me once.
She said she didn't really mind me having feelings for him, and that she was just mad at him for everything he had been putting me through and proud of me for standing up to him, and even if she might not have noticed it, it made me feel so good and so happy.
I had to find a way to think less about him though because it was making me lag behind on my work which was already quite behind because of all the silly errands Lucas was taking me on. Although I knew I really didn't have an excuse anymore besides the fact that he's on my mind all day every day.
“Hey, are you leaving?” I called Andrew who was walking out fully dressed.
He never had on his suit jacket if he wasn't about to go home but he had it on right now so I knew he was about to go, meaning it was quite useless to be asking him such questions.
“Yeah.” He smiled sympathetically at me, probably already knowing the question I was about to ask seeing as I'd asked it every day for the past four days. “Is everything okay?” He asked to draw me out of my thoughts.
“What? Yeah. Yeah I'm fine. I just…..” I hesitated considering if I should lie or just go straight to the point. “He didn't come? Nor did he tell you when he was going to come?” I settled on going straight to the point.
“No, he didn't.” Andrew said and placed his hand on my shoulder in a sympathetic motion. “But I promise you that whenever he does I'll communicate it to you, alright?”
“Yeah, sure.” I forced a smile at him.
“Anyways, I have to go home and get ready. I'm taking Lila out on a date tonight.”
“Yeah she told me. Have a fun date.”
“Yeah. And have a fun time staying late as usual and working.”
“I will.” I laughed as he walked away, trying my hardest to make it sound real and less forced.
I had warmed up to Andrew in the weeks following his coming. It turned out that Lucas was right about him not being so…..as he seemed. He was a really sweet person, he just had the tendency to be a bit crazy sometimes. A feat to which Lila confirmed was very useful in bed.
I laughed and went back to my desk as I tried to blink back tears, turning my face up to the ceiling just to prevent the tears from spilling out.
I wish it could be Lucas and I going on fun dates and having fun stories to tell, but I guess you don't get everything you wish for.
With a sigh, I delved back into the pile of work I had to do and after a while got lost in it and forgot about all of my thoughts.
I was so into my work that I didn't even notice my door open.
“Hey.” I heard a soft voice, just to look up and find Lucas staring at me.
I froze, wondering whether I was dreaming or this was really happening because it was hard to believe that this man I'd been looking for all week was just casually standing in front of me and smiling down at me like he hadn't gone missing for almost a week now.
“H-hi.” I replied softly at a loss for what else to say.
Seeing him now caused a rush of embarrassment to run through me at the way I've been panting after him that I started praying in my heart that Andrew had not told him. I would be so ashamed if he was here because Andrew had informed him that I'd been looking for him.
“May I?” He smiled at me, and all I could see was his eyes that seemed to be drawing me into them and his lips that I so badly just wanted to kiss.
“What?” I asked in confusion.
“May I have a seat?” He chuckled lightly and cocked his head as if he was trying to scope me out.
“Oh. Yeah. Sure. Please.”
Oh my goodness, Amara, can't you just say one word and let it be? You're beginning to seem desperate.
I took a deep breath and calmed down, wondering whether I should ask him why he was here at the office at this hour.
“I came because I was on a week's trip and I ditched my phone, so I couldn't get any informations. As I told Michaela that I was back, she got so mad that she asked me to go to the office and answer my mails on missed appointments.” He laughed. “I've never seen her so mad so I decide to come check it out, just to see you here. Working late?”
He travelled without his phone? Could it be possible he went on that trip with Vanessa? Like a special little romantic getaway?
“Amara.” He snapped me out of my thoughts with that rough bark as he looked at me with concern.
“What? Yeah, I'm working late.” I grinned erratically at him to give him the impression that I was completely fine.
“You're acting crazy, Amara. Come on. Let me walk you yo your car. This work can wait another day.”
With a sigh and a little smile, I got up and shut down my office before walking side by side with him to my car.”
In the parking lot, we were standing too close that I could feel the heat from him seeping into my skin. I could have just entered my car and left but there were so many unspoken words between us that I knew I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about if I just left, so I decided to stay and ask the question.
“Was I a mistake?” I blurted out, thinking I'd regret it after, but didn't.
His eyes softened as he looked at me. “You're the only thing I can't stop wanting, Amara.” He said and with a sigh, he turned away leaving me standing frozen in the cold air.
