Chapter 66: Quality Time.
Chapter 66: Quality Time.
Amara's POV
It was 8:30am and I was already stuck in a car with Lucas in the driver's seat and it was so weird. It was quiet, he wasn't even glancing at me and because of that, I had to try my absolute best to not look at him either. The worst of it all was that he didn't have any music playing or the radio on that I might say that something was filling the silence. Nope. It was just deathly quiet that I was even beginning to feel like I'd gone deaf.
With a little sigh, I reached into my bag and searched for my air pods, praying so hard that I found it in there and that I hadn't left it at home.
“Thank goodness.” I muttered in my head as my hand gripped around the airpod. I brought it out, plugged it into my ear and started watching already downloaded shows on Netflix before I would die of silence in this ... .very nice and very fancy car.
I was watching and giggling for about thirty to forty minutes when Lucas tapped me quite urgently on my thigh.
“What?” I asked as I pulled the left side of the airpod out of my ear.
“Nothing, but you're giggling a bit too loudly. What are you watching anyways?” He asked and tried to look into my phone.
“Oh. Well, I'm very sorry that unlike you, I'm an actual living breathing human being that has a sense of humor and doesn't enjoy sitting in silence and doing absolutely nothing. Like bro, it's more fun at a funeral than in your car right now.”
I said right now because I'd been in his car and it was absolutely fun, and with the way he looked at me, I knew that that thought had just crossed his mind.
“And about what I'm watching. It's none of your business.” I shrugged and plugged the airpod back in before he could say another word.
Some part of me was scolding me for being so rough on him, but then I remembered how horribly he had treated me and that voice shut up.
I had watched for an extra hour and a few minutes before my eyes started hurting, so I turned off the phone, tucked the airpods back in its pouch and leaned back on the chair to close my eyes and let it rest a bit.
“You looked like you enjoyed your show?” I could hear the smile in Lucas' voice, and although everything in me was screaming for me to ignore him, I knew it was best I shouldn't.
I had something to talk to him about later and if I didn't start slowly now I won't have any hope of him listening to me. And also, even if I tried to deny it, there was a part of me that still wanted to talk to him so badly.
“Yeah I did. And how did you know it was a show?” I smiled a bit before turning to face him.
“Ehh, let's just say I might have taken a little peek into it. It was kinda giving love island, the bachelor kind of vibe.”
“It's neither of those.” I laughed. “But they're pretty good guesses too.”
He just laughed and silence slowly started creeping in again.
Nope. I'm not about to let that happen. I was going to keep talking.
“So how are we getting there? You know where we're going?”
“Oh we're going to crawl.” He growled. “Don't you see that I'm already driving there?”
“Wait.” I said and turned to him in surprise. “We're driving there?”
“Have you got a better option?” He asked with a raised brow.
Things were getting heated and I genuinely didn't care. I just wanted to make sure he was joking right now because with a car the place we were headed to will take at least five to six hours and that's if we were going past the speeding limit.
“I thought we were going to take a plane. I mean you're so rich so I expect you have a private jet, but even if you don't, we could have just bought a flight ticket.”
“Okay, I see your point.” He said calmly and nodded. “Now let me explain what actually happened.”
He had a little smug smirk on his face as he looked at me from the corner of his eyes, which got me thinking.
Was this man enjoying riling me up? Or was I just being stupid?
“So my private jet was taken by my friends for a friend's wedding in Japan.” He stated as he tapped his fingers on the steering in a slow consistent rhythm.
That was true because I can remember hearing Ezra talking about how he would have loved to go for the wedding in Japan but he was swamped in work and it was currently rush hour and the entertainment and fashion industry will basically slaughter him if he left. He even designed the wedding outfits of the bride and groom which I think was pretty cool.
“So I decided to book a flight but there's none available for the time we have to be there.” He shrugged and smiled at me. “Well, there are available ones, but they're coach and I never fly coach.”
My mouth fell open and my eyes grew wide as I stared at him like he had grown a rotten second head.
“So you'd rather drive for half a day than fly coach?” I lifted my brows as I waited for his stupid explanation.
“No, of course not. I'm not done with my story. After I realized that there was only coach left, I decided to book a whole flight just for the two of us but there was none available at that moment, so I got to thinking. What if I threw away the whole flight idea and drove so that the both of us could spend some quality time together? So I cancelled the flight idea and here we are.” He grinned like he had just told me some extremely wonderful story.
If anyone had told me earlier that my jaw could drop lower than it already was, I would have called the person a liar, but it could. My jaw unhinged like a snake's and dropped lower than I ever thought possible.
“Come on, cheer up. It will be fun, I promise.” He grinned wildly at me causing me to roll my eyes.
“Anyway, since you want us to spend quality time together, then maybe this is a good conversation to have within the quality time.”
“Go on.” He urged.
“Theres a rumor spreading around Blackwell Innovations that we're both sharing a bed.”
Lucas slammed on the brakes as he turned and looked at me.
Yup. He was affected and that was what I wanted to see. At least I could be sure that he was going to do something about it.
