Chapter 28: Officially fucked.

Chapter 28: Officially fucked.
Amara's POV

“Damn. Now I hate that place where I'm staying more. All this information is going around and I don't even know about it. I feel isolated from the world.”

“I know.” She sighed and looked down sadly, but then brightened up immediately after. “But that's why I'm your best friend. I'm here to tell you everything that went on in your absence.”

“Yeah. Thank you for that.”

“You're welcome. Now answer the question I asked you.”

I heaved a sigh before I began speaking. “Look, it's nothing against you and Michaela. It's just that I've been to this kind of party you described once and you usually have to have a date. It's not compulsory, but the upper class men usually have dates, which means….”

“Lucas would be going with Vanessa.” She spelled out my thoughts, and I turned to look at her with a little smile.

“Exactly. And it's not like I'm mad about that, even though I'll be slightly jealous, but I feel like she wouldn't be happy seeing me there. She'll start thinking that there's something going on that she doesn't know about and she's going to get all violent and threatening, and to be honest with you, I don't want to be in the middle of such a hot mess. I don't have that kind of energy.”

“I see your point.” She said, “And I'm really sorry you have to go through all these on your own.”

“It's okay.” I smiled, but my smile fell as I noticed the expression on her face.

I followed her line of sight to where she was looking at something behind me.

It was the meeting room, so why did she look like…..

“What. The. Fuck.” I whispered as I saw what she was seeing.

“We're dead.” She whispered behind me as goosebumps peppered my skin.

I looked around at the other people crowded around the doorway and realized that I was not the only person that was in shock at what I was seeing.

This could not be normal. There's no way Lucas had done this in the right frame of mind. Like, what would he do if someone decided to report to the police? What was he going to say to them?

We all stood out there, waiting for who would take the lead and walk in first, but no one seemed to be willing to do that.

That was until some guy I'd never seen before came, shoved everyone out of his way and walked in like he wasn't seeing the same thing we were all seeing. He was tall, lean and muscular just like Lucas, but he had a softer face with blonde hair and blue eyes. He looked lovely, like someone you'd want to be friends with.

“Do you know that man?” I whispered to Lila as another man hesitated before walking in, being the switch that caused other people's legs to start moving.

“Nope.” She whispered back. “But I'd really like to know who he is. I mean, he seems dangerous and also seems like he knows Lucas. Anyone that knows Lucas is dangerous. And he's also really hot.” She finished as we started walking in.

“I don't agree. My brother knows Lucas.” I whispered, trying my hardest to make sure no one hears us. “They're even best friends for freak's sake, but Ezra isn't dangerous.”

“You think. He's your cousin that's why he doesn't want to show you his dangerous side. I know he's dangerous.”

“What's even your weird fetish with dangerous men? Like what do you see in them?”

“A lot of things, girl. You won't even understand. Dangerous men are always super hot in bed, and it's like that.”

I heaved a sigh knowing that this was not the best place for this conversation, and knowing that this wasn't a conversation I wanted to be involved in. “Fine. Let's go grab a seat.”

We went round the other side of the table, trying our hardest to avoid stepping in, over or around the man on the floor with a bullet hole in his forehead and a pool of his own blood surrounding him.

We finally sat down still trying to avoid eye contact with the man on the other side of the table who had his hands tied up behind the seat and his mouth taped up. The seat beside him was empty, which I'm sure was because no one wanted to sit beside him or find out what he had done to put him in that position.

“I don't think he likes you staring at him so much.” I jolted at the whispered voice on the other side of the table.

“Oh. I wasn't really…..” I swallowed the rest of my words because I knew it would be stupid to lie when I'd been caught, and it'd be more stupid to lie to this man if Lila was right and he was dangerous.

“... I'm sorry. I didn't realize I was staring.” I whispered and looked down at my laps.

I was hungry. So fucking hungry. This was not what I expected to meet when I came in here.

“I'm Andrew.” He said with a smile as he stretched his hand towards me.

Lila grabbed the hand like it was her saving grace, but he still kept his smile perfectly in place. “I'm Lila, and this is my best friend Amara. It's really good to meet you Andrew.”

“It's also quite nice to meet the both of you.” His smile increased as he looked at Lila.

I tried to bite back my smile as I witnessed Lila's wish coming true. I wanted to speak, but I was scared that it would break the connection they had so I kept my mouth shut and my head slightly down.

“So Andrew, can I call you Andy? You know, as a little pet name?”

“Sure.” He said with that very adorable smile on his face, Lila was beaming too. “Everyone has the right to call me whatever they want and I have the right to react however I would want to react.”
