Chapter 3 he called me
Anaya’s P.O.V.
“You need to eat something, Anaya. Not eating and drinking is not going to bring Vincent back. You can’t give up like this,” Nancy scolded me, desperation and worry evident in her voice.
“I really don’t have any will to eat or drink, Nancy. I will throw up.” I still refused and looked out of the window.
It had been five days since that accident, but I felt as if I hadn’t seen him for eternity.
Tears spilled from my eyes again, but it seemed that the tears had also dried up.
I was sitting on the single sofa near the window of my room, hugging my knees tightly, trying to ease the pain in my chest, but the pain didn’t stop.
Nancy and Rose took care of everything related to Vincent’s funeral. I just stayed there like a statue, moving like a robot, doing everything in autopilot mode.
“We are not going to listen to you anymore, girl.” Rose fumed while entering my room.
“Get up now. You are going to wash up and then you are going to eat with us. He is dead, but you are still alive. Do you want him to be sad up there?” She continued yelling at me and stopped in front of me.
I whimpered in pain again and closed my eyes.
“Aaahh.” I screamed in fear when they suddenly grabbed my arms and yanked me off the sofa.
“We are not going to listen to you now.” They both dragged me towards the bathroom as if I were a rag doll.
“Hey. Stop it.” I yelled, annoyed by the way they were treating me right now.
They both ignored me and almost threw me inside the washroom.
Now, you are going to wash yourself up. We will be back in five minutes, and no crying.” Nancy instructed me sternly, glaring hard at me.
I wanted to scream at her for treating me like this, but their worry for me was still evident in their eyes.
They were angry, of course, but their anger rose from their worry for me.
I was in pain and despair, but I was still rational.
They didn’t leave my side, not even for a single minute, ever since we received the news of that accident.
They didn’t let me stay alone in my room at any time of the day.
Rose closed the door, not before giving me a warning through her eyes.
I sniffed, shaking my head, still trying to suppress the pain in my chest, but it was really hard.
I slowly lifted my head up so that I could stand up.
Because they threw me inside the washroom, and I fell on the floor. I was now sitting on the floor.
I held the edge of the counter and slowly lifted my body up.
I slumped on the bathroom floor when my head spun so hard that I almost fainted.
I put my hands on the floor behind me and slowly moved my head backward while closing my eyes.
Mourning a loved one is not for just a few days. You mourned them all your life, remembering every single happy or sad moment that you spent with them whenever something similar happens.
Sometimes, you curse them to break their promise to you.
Sometimes, you call them in despair when you feel that living life without them is nothing but hell.
The same thing that I am feeling right now, but my friends were right.
The pain of Vincent’s death is not something that can go away in a few days.
I was still grieving my mother when it had been 16 years.
I slowly opened my eyes and once again tried to stand up, holding the edge tightly.
My body swayed, my head spun hard, but I managed to stand up.
The dark spot danced in front of my eyes, but I let my body control itself on its own.
I splashed some water on my face without looking at my reflection in the mirror.
The coldness of water brought some senses back in my body.
It oddly felt good.
I splashed water a few more times and looked up.
My breath hitched, and I just stared at the zombie’s reflection in the mirror.
My hair was a tangled mess, and my face??????
I don’t have straight hair. I had golden brown curly hair, but right now they appeared like dirty brown.
And my eyes. I had dark brown eyes just like my mother, but right now, the dark circles and bags under my eyes made my already ghastly pale complexion a scary look.
I really needed to take a good shower, and the chattering of my intestine when I stood up screamed at me for some internal strength.
I sighed and slowly stripped my clothes.
God!!!!!!
I was stinking like a garbage bin.
My own smell made me feel nauseated when I removed my top.
I walked straight to the cubicle, but I was so weak that I almost fell forward when my head spun again.
I put my hands on the wall and let the water coming from the showerhead slide on my body.
It took me a few good seconds to get my strength back so that I could wash myself.
I washed my hair thrice and washed my body twice but felt exhausted in the end.
After finishing my shower, I wrapped a towel around my upper chest and slowly walked towards the door.
To my surprise, the door opened instantly.
I looked at my friend in surprise when they appeared at the door.
“Are you guys here all the time?” I asked them in a surprised tone, disbelief evident in my voice.
“Nope. I went to cook some soup for you. You can’t have something heavy after staying hungry for more than five days.” Nancy replied to me while coming inside.
Rose looked grim, though.
Nancy held my hand, giving me support from the side, and took me out of the washroom.
“What is it?” I asked Rose worriedly when her expression didn’t change.
“Your father….. he called thrice.” She told me, and I stopped in the middle of the room.
Stunned and confused.
She held my phone in my direction, still grim, but worried.
I don’t remember when the last time was when I talked to my father.
“Are you sure? It has been…. What….. years???? When did he last called?” Nancy asked in a surprised and confused tone. They knew how bad my relationship with him was.
“His number is still saved in her contacts.” Rose replied while I looked for the call log.
I pursed my lips into a thin line when I saw that my father really called me thrice.
“Here… put some clothes on first.” Nancy brought my clothes for me. I looked at her with gratitude while taking the clothes.
I was about to put the phone on the bed when it started ringing in my hand again.
To my surprise, it was my father again.
I took the call this time but didn't put the phone on my ear. I threw it on the bed.
