Chapter 12 targeting the weakest
Anaya’s P.O.V.
“This is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard, Winnie. Alfred owed him money and deceived him. Now as the repayment, he is demanding me to be his bride. Me, a human… he, an alpha werewolf, wants me to be his bride. The same ridiculous thing that I hate the most – the same thing that happened between my mother and Alfred, and she paid the price with her life.” I paused because my voice choked.
I was overwhelmed by all the emotions that hit me harder than the last time they hit me.
“I know that this is wrong, Anaya. You…. You shouldn’t be here in the first place, but he will kill every member of this pack if you don’t agree, Anaya. Try to understand the situation, baby. Thi… this is not about me or Alfred. This is about innocent people who don’t know a thing and are about to lose their lives. Do this for them, baby.” Winnie pleaded with me, but I wasn’t having it.
“No, Winnie. This is Alfred and Riley’s mess. Let them face the storm. I will be gone by tomorrow, and I want you to come with me.” I replied to her sternly and looked out of the window, indicating that I was done with this conversation.
Fate couldn’t play a crueler game than this fact that the very same person who demanded a marriage alliance with me has the same face as Vincent.
Vincent was an orphan and a human. I know everything about him.
There is no way that he was related to Alpha Lucifer.
Even if there is a connection between them, my answer was still no.
His face reminded me of what I lost in my life.
Even with that scar on his face, his resemblance to Vincent is enough to scrape my wounds every time I see him.
They even had the same pair of eyes.
It’s nothing but the cruelest joke.
“Rest for a while. I will bring your lunch for you later.” Winnie asked me in a low voice.
“I won’t stay for lunch, Winnie. I have things to take care of. I will be gone in two hours.” I replied to her monotonously.
I didn’t understand why she still wanted to stay with Alfred when she knew that Alfred would kill her one day.
He has become so violent that I didn’t find the trace of the man whom I knew as my father.
Well, I lost my father the day he brought Winnie to our house, but Winnie wasn’t at fault here.
Alfred said to my mother that he loved her.
He said to my mother that she would be the only woman in his life.
Yet he broke all the promises.
I stood up and slowly walked towards the window. I was still dizzy, but better than when I woke up.
I already messaged both Nancy and Rose that I am okay and will be back in a few hours.
Jacob didn’t come to see me again, and I wish that he wouldn’t come, or else I would kill him the next second I see him.
I trusted him as my friend, and he betrayed me in the worst way by knocking me out and bringing me here.
I would never forgive him for that.
I planted my palms on the edges of the window and leaned on them.
The air was still as fresh as it was before, but it still felt strange to me.
This room was on the west side of the packhouse. In front of me were a few other buildings at a distance and the backyard garden and kitchen garden.
The flowers and fruits were blooming, but nothing made me smile.
His face was still in front of me.
It’s not like I didn’t see twins.
They look identical, and yet they still have a very subtle difference. If you look at them intently, you can find that difference.
But Lucifer…..
He looked exactly like Vincent.
Like a mirror image of each other. Even his touch didn’t feel strange.
So familiar and so comforting.
Just like I felt with Vincent.
I felt tears in my eyes again, but I blinked them away.
“Let’s go back, Anaya. You have nothing to do with these people. They have their own destiny just like you.” I mumbled to myself and took a deep breath.
I was about to move when I heard a sharp cry outside the packhouse walls.
I ignored the sound and walked back to bed. I needed to keep myself calm for a few minutes more, and then I would be good to go back.
I sat down at the edge of the bed but felt restless.
“Damn it.” I cursed in my heart.
This was the biggest disadvantage of being born from an alpha and a kind-hearted woman like my mother.
They didn’t know, but I know what kind of character I got from my parents.
An alpha always has this instinct of protecting his people in every situation.
And this was also a part of my mother’s nature. She was very protective towards people here after she became their Luna.
She was a human but earned their respect through her actions and care for the pack. She wasn’t a fighter, but she was fierce when it came to protecting someone.
I also got this from my parents.
I looked in the direction of the window when the cries became louder.
“Fck it.” I cursed aloud to myself and stood up.
I went to the window again and looked in that direction.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before opening my eyes again.
I can see as far as a werewolf can from my place.
I narrowed my eyes when I saw a group of pups with three she-wolves surrounded by five fierce, burly wolves.
“What the fk is going on?” I cursed again and, without any hesitation, jumped out of the window. The room was on the first floor.
A piece of candy for me.
Two maids screamed in fear when I landed in the kitchen garden.
“What? Don’t you know me or forget about me already?” I barked at them angrily.
I knew both of them. Their mothers were also a part of the kitchen staff in my mother’s reign.
“Alpha Anaya….. pl… please save us.” One of them with short blonde hair cried, kneeling in front of me suddenly. The other, with black hair tied in a bun, also followed the blonde actions and fell on her knees beside the blonde.
“What the fuk?” I exclaimed in shock and almost jumped to my feet.
“What’s going on out there?” I asked them angrily when a pup screamed at the top of his lungs. The terror in his voice was heart-shattering.
“The Night Howl Pack has surrounded us, and now they are taking hostages.” The blonde told me in a fearful tone.
My blood ran cold, and my expression went cold too.
"They are targeting the weakest." I muttered angrily and look in the direction of the boundary wall.
