Chapter 85 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 85 Untitled Chapter
GIANNA
I hurried out of the car the moment Frank parked right outside the police station, I tried to help grams out in my haste. Bridget hit me with her walking stick which was more for decoration than walking and hurt worse than it looks.
“Move out of my way girl. I'm not an invalid, if I need help I'll be sure to let you know,” she scolded, marching on.
Dressed in white silk blouse and a black pantsuit, paired with a matching black low heels, gray hair style in pixie cut that accentuates her small face, the bangs make her look younger than she is.
Grams was more energetic than any seventy year old has a right to be, I won't be surprised if she outlived us all.
Her walking stick which also serves as a weapon she whacks on poor unsuspecting victims like myself was custom made, it was wooden and smoothly carved, with a rounded handle in the shape of a fox head.
I always thought Bridget was a tigress, but a fox is a more fitting title to be honest. She's an old cunning lady with eyes that sees too much.
“Sorry Grams, but I need to talk to you before we go inside.”
“What about?” she asked, still walking. Tessa, Aunt Layla and Chloe were all walking on her other side. Listening and staring at us both with curiosity on their faces.
“I've decided I won't tell the cops Dane and Jax kidnapped me. I'm not saying we should lie to the police, if you think about it, it's not really a lie, considering they didn't know I never consented to being kidnapped.
It's just a little tweak from the actual truth so the cops don't drag out the whole thing and waste everyone's time. It's already late as it is and you should have already been in bed, resting,” I rambled.
“Oh, is that so? Tuck the old lady in bed right?” she asked sarcastically back to her normal self. Not the weepy old woman she was earlier.
“That's not it, I just think the whole thing is inconveniencing everyone, I'm just so tired and will appreciate it if you let me take care of this misunderstanding. After all, it's my problem.”
She stared at me for a while contemplating, my need to take care of things independently was something I had learned from her.
“Alright, it's your call. I just hope you know what you're doing.”
“Trust me, Grams I do,” I replied, relieved.
“Is that all?” I nodded.
“Yes?” I said, but it sounded like a question.
“Come then, let's get this over with.” I didn't know if she'd agreed or not, with Bridget you can't always tell. But since she doesn't disagree with me, I'll say that's a yes.
“Miss Brooks,” a slightly familiar voice called behind me, I turned in time to see Ruin shut his car door and stride towards me, there's another man with him.
I met them halfway, leaving my curious family behind.
I had called him earlier on the way, thank God it occurred to me to call Damon when we were almost at the station.
I should have thought about it sooner. He'd picked up on the first ring and told me he was on his way the instant I explained the situation to him.
I had stopped him from ending the call and explained what I was going to do, so we could get our stories straight. He'd told me he understood and would be there with a lawyer though he doesn't think it would be necessary.
I guess the other man must be the lawyer.
“That was fast,” I said in a way of greeting.
“I was nearby when we talked. This is Curtis, my lawyer, fortunately I was with him when you called. I decided to bring him along knowing his assistance might be needed.” I nodded at the man.
“Who's this?” Chloe asked from behind me, startling me. We walked the short distance to where gram was standing.
“Grams, aunty. This is Damon Lockhart, he's Dane and Jax's friend and the owner of NYME. I called him on our way here and this is his lawyer ... .Mr Curtis.”
“Evan Curtis.” The man elaborated. I was hoping they wouldn't recognize the name of Ruin's firm.
“Damon, Mr Evan this is my grandma Bridget Brooks, my aunt and cousin Layla and Chloe and my friend Tessa,” I introduced. He shook Aunt Layla, Tessa and Chloe’s hands but dared to kiss the back of Gram's hand like a gentleman.
The lawyer just shook their hands politely and let go. Bridget was eying Damon with old assessing eyes like the fox she was.
“Damon Lockhart? The owner of INFERNO?” Tessa asked, eyes wide with disbelief. I glanced at him surprised.
“Wait, you also own INFERNO?”
“Partly yes…” he corrected.
“Wow.”
I can't believe Damon also owns that den of iniquity…wait yes. I actually can. The man's entire business revolves around debauchery, he's either a sexual deviant or something. He grinned at me as though he could see inside my head.
“What is Inferno? Why do I suddenly feel like I'm missing a lot of vital info here?” Chloe said, looking from him to me to Tessa.
“Do you remember how I told the cops we were at a club when Gianna went missing? The name of the club was Infer…”
“Oh my God, the sex club! How could I have forgotten about it? So wait, you're not only the owner of a sex club, but also the owner of male escort agency. Are you a sexual deviant or what?”
“Chloe, forgive her Mr Lockhart. Chloe has always had a penchant for running her mouth regardless of how rude it sounds,” aunt Layla said.
Grams was busy herself with observing the men, probably expecting Ruin to squirm and get uncomfortable with Chloe’s questions.
I swear if I didn't know Chloe had always been this way, I would have thought grams put her up to it, both of them are naughty and enjoyed flustering people. Must be in the blood.
“It's alright, I get that all the time,” Ruin said calmly.
“To answer your question” he said, turning to Chloe who suddenly perked up. Her eyes were shining with mischief.
“I'm just a businessman with an eye for the market, sex is as natural as breathing. As you might be aware prostitution is also one of the oldest businesses in the world. It dates back thousands of years and is one of the most profitable till date. I assure you both my businesses are legit establishments.”
He was completely unapologetic and succinct as he explained all these.
“You didn't deny it though, that you're a sexual deviant.” He stared at her as she smiled slyly, while his face was blank, his eyes were gleaming with something I was uncomfortable with.
“Um, Ruin we need to go,” I said.
“Ruin? What kind of name is that? Why are you called Ruin? Ohh let me guess...”
“My God Chloe, can't you just act normal?” I said, dragging her along.
“Normal is overrated. Have you seen our family? We are Brooke, we are not normal, you're the only exception. Well you were, not after you went all out and bang two gorgeous men becoming the filling in their sandwich.”
That got her giggling again.
“Chloe , I gotta say it but girl you need help,” I whispered, my face burning with embarrassment.
“I'm not sick, just curious.”
“Well, try and tamp down your curiosity please, we're here for something serious.”
“I know, it's just I've never met a real sex deviant before, except for aunt Giselle but that woman has never actually been normal,” she said as we stepped inside the police station.
“I thought we aren't normal.”
“We aren't, but aunt Giselle is on a whole new level.” We headed straight to the front desk which somehow got her to finally shut up.
This was the first time I ever saw the inside of a police station, I always thought the inside was as frightening as a prison yard.
I don't even know how I came to that conclusion, but it's probably because I know criminals get arrested and sent to police stations.
But when I stepped inside it wasn't as bad as I had first thought.
A middle aged woman in her uniform whose tag said Debbie was on duty at the front desk. I don't know if it was because Bridget has already been here several times before.
But the lady's face broke into a kind smile when she saw her. She gave Grams a place to sit and even offered to get her either water or tea. I didn't know people get served tea in police stations.
As I feared, we were late. Dane and Jax were already booked and put behind bars. Though it was intimidating as hell, seeing people locked up in what is a literal cage.
Regardless of how fancy it looks it's still a cage to me. I had forced myself to not stare at where they were, afraid I might break down or do something equally stupid.
Instead I had focused on trying to get the stubborn police officer to release them.
Just giving my statement took an hour in which I had to recount the same things I'd already said twice over. Luckily it wasn't the same police officer who had arrested them.
And with the lawyer Evan helped everything was going smoothly. As promised Grams had allowed me to handle everything by myself, but I knew she was there for me if I needed her.
We were almost done when the huge police officer, the same cop who had arrested Jax and Dane and goes by the name detective Nielsen Dawson walked into the station with a phone in hand.
“What is going on here,James?”
“They're here to bail out the men we arrested earlier. I had just finished taking her statement.” officer James replied. The behemoth narrowed his eyes at the far end where the men in the cell, then glanced back at me.
