The Mate Bond II

The Mate Bond II
Myra felt the sudden urge to throw up or pass out. She leaned over the table, desperately trying to understand this crisis.
She was his mate? How on earth did it happen? Did fate despise her that much? Was she cursed?
Myra swallowed painfully, too confused to speak. She touched the mark again, feeling the energy within it.
"Undo it" she said quietly.
A muscle in his cheek twitched. She really was a fool.
"Undo it. Remove this. Now" she said, urgency laced in her voice.
His lips remained sealed, his eyes focused on everything but her.
"Erase this mark Alpha. You did it, now remove it" she demanded, moving to his side.
His wolf scratched his senses, itching to get closer, to hold her. That feeling made his jaw clench.
She really was his mate. His wolf was feeling the pull. And he was living in a nightmare only fate could give.
"You can remove it, can't you?" She probed, tugging his sleeve.
Silence.
"I'm asking a question. Can you remove this mark?" She questioned impatiently.
"I can't" his voice was cool and collected, considering the storm in him.
Her heart sank. "You.... what?"
"Are you deaf?" He turned to her with a glare that could melt ice. "I can't undo this. It's irreversible"
"Surely someone else can remove it. There must be a way" she was desperate. "I can't be your mate please"
He brushed her hand off his sleeve, hating the spark that inflamed his fingers. "This is what you wanted princess, so stop pretending. You wanted my mark. You wanted to trap me"
"Excuse me?" Anger boiled her blood. She shoved him hard but he barely moved. "Me? You're always blaming me!"
"What about what you did to me? You enslaved me and now you say I'm your mate?!!" She screamed, hitting his chest.
"You're the one who was blinded by lust and now I'm the one at fault?!!"
He stood there like a statue, calmly receiving her blows. It barely hurt.
"What do you want from me? You've taken my kingdom, my people, my innocence and now my life! Just kill me!" She poured all her frustration into her blows until there was nothing left.
Exhausted, she slid down to the floor, sobbing loudly. She pulled her knees close.
"This... This isn't fair" she hiccuped. "I didn't ask for this. I've done nothing but swallow all the pain."
Just when she thought she could handle one misfortune, fate dropped another.
His mark. The enemy's mark. How horrible could it get?
Arthur gazed at her like she was filth. Like the moon goddess herself had spat in his face.
This was the price of a night gone wrong. The punishment for letting his wolf have control.
And even now, the sick creature wanted her. 'Hold her. Mine. Touch her' it moaned.
Arthur wanted to rip it out of his body—it had already done more harm than good.
'My mate. Don't hurt. Sad' it pushed against the restraints of his logic.
He clenched his fists, gritting his teeth.
He had made a mistake and now, he was paying for it. He glanced at the sobbing mess on the floor, cursing the day he met her.
"You took my life" she mumbled. "You made me your slave. Then that night" she cried harder. "You took the only thing I had left. Now I don't even own myself"
"Shut the fk up" he snapped, clearly irritated.
She sniffed then continued, "You've cursed me, binded my fate to your ugly self" she raised her teary eyes. "Will I turn into a werewolf too? Will I become a creature of the night?"
"I said shut up"
"I don't want to become a werewolf, the very kind that enslaved me. What will I tell Evelyn? I don't want to become a monster like you"
Great. Her words stabbed him in the heart, stroking a spot he covered up quickly.
Her tears brought a fresh wave of guilt. He cursed his primal side that wanted to comfort her.
He despised that, despised the weakness. All because of one foolish wolf.
While she was mumbling through her tears, someone knocked on the door.
"Alpha?" Lucien's voice came through the thick door. "You there?"
"I'm busy" came his clipped reply. He glanced at Myra whose expression mirrored panic.
"Is Christine in there?" Lucien chuckled.
"No. I'm occupied right now, come back later"
"Why do I have the feeling that a woman is with you?" Lucien persisted, turning the knob. "She must be—"
"Don't even think of opening the door Lucien. I'm busy. Now"
Sensing the ominous vibe in his words, Lucien took a step back. "Understood Alpha. Sorry for any disturbance I may have caused"
Arthur listened to his receding footsteps then strolled over to Myra. He crouched before her, grabbed her hair and yanked it back mercilessly.
She winced but didn't dare to do anything. He was already provoked, she didn't want to be on the receiving end of his anger.
Their breaths tangled, their eyes locked and the force of the bond pulled them closer.
The mark heated up, burning her neck and a flood of rage twisted her chest. She didn't want this. She never asked to be tied to the Alpha.
"Now listen clearly" he began slowly.
She narrowed her eyes, her anger building. Listen to what?
An apology? Or just another stupid order?
A wave of energy inflamed her chest and spread fire slowly through her body. It felt almost electrical but she mistook it for the bond.
The window behind them cracked suddenly but the noise went unnoticed.
"If you dare breathe a word of this to anyone, I'll ruin you" he passed the threat clearly.
No one could know of this. Not the royal family, not the council.... no one.
She gave a quick bitter laugh. "Why? Scared? Or are you ashamed of your sins?"
He tugged her hair harshly. "Do as I say princess. It's much easier"
She glared at him and he returned it with more hatred.
Neither of them noticed the sudden charge in the air or how the crack was spreading slowly in the window.
They didn't even notice the shadow that lingered behind the window, watching them.
