Chapter 116 Play Pretend

Chapter 116 Play Pretend
Lydia gathered her hair up, slipped further back toward the door, and quickly ran through all the Portuguese she knew, fixing her mouth for the accent. It probably sounded more Spanish, but unless these ignorant bitches spoke either language, she doubted she had to worry about it. If any of them knew anything about Dorian, they’d either think she was a special hire or a family member.
She’d been learning a few phrases, here and there, in solidarity with Dani, who was learning Greek for her own cultist fake-but-too-real boyfriend. Reign already spoke three languages, but had joined them in picking up a fourth for fun, since she spoke to Jax in French all the time.
“Tô destruída, Dorian!” She called, knotting her hair and carrying her bag with her. Scuffling came from the kitchen as she strode toward it, pulling out a pad of paper and pen for distraction. Thank fuck she hadn’t tried to dress up for this conversation. “Como—”
Lydia broke off as she rounded the corner, eyes wide as she found the three women stunned, still, and caught. Looked like they weren’t supposed to be here, and they knew it. A bit of tension in her chest loosened.
Lydia lifted a hand lamely and waved, giving her best impression of not recognizing any of these women or having the faintest clue why they would be there.
“Prazer…” She dropped her gaze to Amber’s feet and gasped. “Zoado! Que?”
“Who the hell are you?” Amber hissed.
“Eu arranho no inglês.” Lydia hesitated. “Cê fala espanhol?”
Amber blinked, and the bleach-blonde woman pursed her lips. “She must be the help.”
“Help that calls him by his first name?” Amber scanned Lydia. “Yeah, no.” She waved her hand as if to dismiss Lydia. “Get out. You’re fired.”
Lydia blinked at her, holding back laughter. She looked down at the glass, then back to Amber.
“Onde?”
“Are you deaf? Get out.” Amber sucked on her teeth, turning back to the cabinet and rifling through it, scoffing at all the seasoning mixes, tossing them on the floor. “Call the Resort and request another maid. One who knows her place and not to be fucking late.” Amber went to another cabinet. It was empty. “This place is a pigsty.”
“Eh…” Lydia snapped her fingers and turned back toward the closet where she’d moved all the cleaning supplies.
"Where the fuck is all the liquor?" Amber hissed.
This woman didn't know Dorian at all. Dorian partied hard, but he didn't keep alcohol in his house unless he was planning to host. The remnants of the last party he'd held had long since been donated to Hockey House.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
"It's saying he doesn't have a cleaner set up through the Resort.”
“Dorian having a private hire? Not the Knox style.”
“I mean… are you sure she’s the help?”
“Dorian knows better.” Amber scoffed. “And Liv’ you’ve got to stop treating him like a high school sweetheart. He's a grown man."
"I mean... he's still a virgin, though."
Amber laughed. "Are you serious? You haven't fucked him yet?"
'Liv' scoffed. "Not for lack of trying. We'd already be married if he hadn't found out. I mean, honestly, what did he expect? A woman has needs. And since he wasn't willing to fulfill them, what else was I supposed to do?"
"True, you would think being a hotshot center would do something for his ego... Maybe he has a micro-dick."
Lydia set her jaw, wanting to call Dani and Reign for the hell of it. Three on three, they could take these skinny bitches, but it would be so much better to ruin all their sick little plans.
She'd worry about how they got in later.
"He's always been like that. I mean, it was cute at first, having this sort of sensitive jock guy, you know, he was hot enough to be a good boyfriend." 'Liv' scoffed. "Sensitive enough not to be an asshole, but it kind of got old after a while. I really thought that him getting drafted was going to help him out of that. Maybe some of the locker room talk would rub off on him, but if anything, he became less interested."
"Well, stress does affect a man's libido. I can show you some pointers."
"And... he's got to be better now, horny with the legacy almost in the bag? No time like a present now that he's cooled off. He's back in with his administrator. You know they want you two together. It's so much easier to promote high school sweethearts than reformed playboys."
"Excuse you," Amber laughed. "I don't qualify?"
"It's different, and you know it."
"I guess I do know what Dorian's packing."
‘Liv’ laughed. "Hah. Hah. I always thought he was overcompensating."
"Oh, no. The man is... well-endowed. Nice hips, too. Has to be all the stretches. Better than his Dad, for sure."
Lydia's stomach lurched. What. The. Fuck? Lydia set her jaw as the three of them cackled and continued rifling through Dorian's refrigerator. She couldn't imagine how anyone had ever dated that wench. Any of these bitches. She shuddered. She'd worried about what kind of monster she'd be given to; she shouldn't be surprised that monsters weren't confined to a gender. Who the hell discussed their relationship like this? It was disgusting. It was as bad as locker room talk. Worse, since they were talking about drugging him!
"Well, I'm sure with some time and distance apart, he'll come to appreciate your willingness more. Just present him with the right opportunity to get his dick wet."
Oh, that was it. She dragged the push vacuum and the mop bucket and put them by the bar.
Amber scoffed. “I thought I told you—”
“Fiancé?”
They all went still. The two blondes glanced at Amber as she whirled around to glare at Lydia.
“Obviously, I’m Dorian’s fiancé!”
“Sim!” Lydia grinned, holding up a finger and flipping her pages to a different blank page. “Perdão, eh…” She cleared her throat again to keep from laughing. “Ko-ni-chi-wa, O-To-Ha-san, wa-ta-shi wa—”
Amber flinched, and the other two glanced at each other. She reared back, grabbing a glass bottle, and hurling it at Lydia.
“I said get out, you idiot!”
Lydia dodged the bottle of seasoning and huffed, taking on the angriest tone as she asked where the bathroom was, how to get to the train, and any other phrase she could think of.
The pair of blondes kept sipping, eyes wide, amused when Amber finally decided to come out of the kitchen.
Lydia gave out a shriek, screaming bits and pieces of phrases and dragging furniture in between them to slow Amber down.
“Polícia!”
She ducked into the room she used and slammed the door behind her, locking it as Amber beat at the door.
“I’ll have you fucking deported!”
Lydia rolled her eyes and plugged in her phone while Amber continued to beat on the door.
“Get your—”
Her voice broke off as the back door snapped open.
Dorian’s voice ripped through the air, more a roar than a yell.
"What the fuck?" He roared. "You brought these bitches into my house? And my fucking floors!"
