Chapter 100 Three's Menace

Chapter 100 Three's Menace
The fuck she would. She slipped her phone in her back pocket as if she had ended the call, but left the line open.
"Interesting that we haven't seen you on the floor managing anything all night, and you suddenly think I'm responsible for the whole shift." She swallowed past the bile in her throat and glanced at the recording still going on her watch. "I don't get paid enough to deputy. You think they need to be clean, you re-run them, along with picking up all the slack your other subordinates left behind." She snatched the squeegee for the floor, dragging the tide of water toward the drain, and putting her phone in her apron pocket. She gripped the pole of the squeegee firmly, bracing for the moment he would come too close and the fight would be on.
His intentions were clear, curling in the air as he geared up for it, imagined what it wold be like. His hand in her hair, around her throat. She swallowed a gush of bile.
Keep calm, Lyd.
She just had to get past him, out to the street. She could go through the front door, head him off. Jason was a bit soft around the window, between drugs and being a creep, she had to be able to outmaneuver him, bad hip, wheezing, and all.
If she hit him hard enough, she wouldn't have to worry about it. One good strike and he'd go down like a pile of bricks.
He took a step forward. "You have a lot of nerve talking to me like that."
"You've got a lot of nerve hiring shit employees."
"I think I've held off on your performance review long enough. It's about time someone put you in your place."
Lydia glanced at him from the corner of her eye, offering a thin smile. "Is the HR lady here? Seems a bit late for that."
Their eyes met. His cold, flat, but ravenous. Her heart thundered, but she kept pushing water toward the drain between them. Suds and streams of oil washed toward him.
Danger screamed like an alarm bell in the back of her mind.
"I don't need some bitch sucking the owner's dick to put you in place. I'm just grateful to get the fringe benefits of you getting cozy with the owner and his friends? That guy was Dorian Knox, right?"  Jason turned red, stepping closer, but not far enough away from the door. "You think you’re hot stuff, don’t you? You prance around with that ass, tits bouncing around, begging me to look at you like the whore you are." She recoiled at his tone, but it was nothing compared to what he said next. "Shame Thomas got a taste of you first."
Her blood ran cold and she took several steps away from him, stopping her water-sweeping. The name rattled through her cold and disorienting until the fluorescents went dark and the tile turned to carpet beneath her feet.
"What did you say to me?"
"You teased him like you’re teasing me." Jason pulled his belt free, the clink, rattle and whisper dragging her mind back through time to when Thomas could still breathe. "And unlike him, I know how to handle a teasing bitch, like you." He chuckled. "He should have studied a bit harder."
Lydia jumped back, lifting the squeegee and aiming it at his chest.
"Last warning, Jason. Back the fuck of and get out of my way."
"This is your last warning, whore," he smirked. "I'm going to ruin that pussy the way Thomas couldn't."
He lunged forward and she swung, missing his head by inched before jabbing him hard in the chest. He slipped, feet in the air and crashed don. She jetted for the door when  two other presences seemed to melt out of the darkness with that same cold, ravenous intention in their eyes. Features dark in the shadows of the kitchen.
"You may as well give up," Jason hissed from behind her. "Your brother's not going to be here to save you."
Her mind raced, shaking her head as her pulse pounded in her temples and she fought to keep in the present. She had to think. Three assailants just like before, just as planed as if they'd handed the blueprint to the dead or vis versa. They probably knew all three of them, and now that she looked at them all. She knew them from the first party of the year.
The athlete who tried to snatch her and the guy who'd asked her to dance.
"Gavin?" she breathed.
He chuckled. "I'm so flattered you remember my me..." His expression feel cold. "Do you remember Eric?"
She did, he'd been the monster behind the mask who she'd bitten. Even if he'd survived the stab wounds, he'd never fuck again. For a monster like him, that would have been a fate worse than death.
Jason snarled. "Back off. It's my turn first. I did all the work to set it up."
Her stomach heaved, the nervous trembling of her gut traveled through her limbs. The three of them knew each other, knew those bastards she'd killed on her grandpa's floor. They all had the same sinister look those three did, but the difference was that they weren't wearing masks.
They didn't intend for her to survive, or they'd dump her into thee Society's underground because those bastards had family with money and she didn't.
She tightened her grip, but she would, even if they didn't. A calm, haze settled on her mind, pushing the nausea down as she dug her heal in.
"Look at the little wave, thinking she's got a chance against the three of us with a squeegee." The unnamed man licked his lips. "I knew she'd be worth the wait... Becker never disappoints."
Lydia took another deep breath, wishing she could be anywhere else, but she wasn't sixteen anymore. She finally had a reason to eat, exist, and keep existing that wasn't just her brother's freedom and guilt.
She had Reign and Dani and Riley.
She had Dorian.
"My boyfriend's not going to like the thought that you Jason snarled and lunged at her. think you can touch me." She swallowed. "You ever fight a man who fight as a part of his job? He'll lay your ass flat, and don't get me started on his friends. Ani' will beat you so bad your face will be permanently concave in, if you survive. You really want to do this?"
She just has to get past them. Just had to get past them.
The three of them looked angrier the more she talked. Which one would move. Which one.
Her money was on Jason.
A second later, Justin lunged.
