Chapter 12 — Bittersweet Misery

Cassia:

It has been days since Mathias has brought me to his house. For the most part, he has ignored me. I guess if I had to label it, I would say we co-exist. Sometimes I look at him and wish that he would take me in his arms and kiss me. Other times, I wish he would just let me go and let me get over him. It hurts to be around him. To know that he does not feel the same way. To anyone, this would be odd, but when it comes to Supernaturals, mating is a beautiful fated bond that develops before mates meet. It’s love in its truest form. Well, for everyone except me, apparently. When the dreams revealing my mate began, I was so happy. I had finally discovered that someone out there was fated for me. I built up a dream around a man that I thought would love me. You’d find this odd, but mating dreams are rare. Not everyone finds a mate right away. Some have to wait centuries or don’t get one at all. Oh, how bitter reality has been for me to know that I’ve found him, and he wants nothing to do with me. I fell in love with a dream. Now my dream is a nightmare.

On the third night, we’re both sitting down, having dinner. I’m feeling a little stir crazy due to all of the inactivity. I feel like I might explode if I have to sit in Mathias’ house any longer. Thankfully, the monotony of my day is interrupted by an unexpected phone call.

Ignoring Mathias. I walk towards my phone and check the screen. It’s Conlan. A genuine smile spreads across my face. It looks like someone is interested. “Hi, Conlan,” I answer, my mood quickly becoming less somber.

Mathias’ head snaps up at my response as he watches me attentively. “Hey, Cassia. I…I’ve been staring at my phone wondering if I should call you and decided to go for it. To be honest, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since we met.” Conlan's sexy male voice resounds through the speaker. I know that it should be a turn on, but all I feel is hollow and empty. I try not to let it get me down, though.

Running my hand through my hair, I shake off my grim thoughts. “No, it’s okay, Conlan. It’s actually nice to hear your voice.” I say softly. Walking across the living room, I try to put some distance between Mathias and me. It’s crazy because Mathias says he cares nothing for me, but I can feel the heat of his gaze every time we’re in the same room.

Conlan releases a ragged breath and chuckles. “Whoa, I’m glad that you’re not mad. So what are you doing right now?” I think about what I’ve been doing every night and roll my eyes. “Actually, I have nothing to do. I was just going to bed.”

Conlan laughs seductively. “I think I just felt envious of your bed.” I giggle in reply. I’ve never flirted before. It feels really good. I look at Mathias, who is sitting at the dinner table with a file in his hands. He seems to be intrigued by whatever is in front of him.

“So, I was thinking, maybe we can go out sometime.” A smile curves my lips. “Well, I’m out of town right now. But I can give you a call when I get back?” His reply is swift. “Okay, I’ll hold you to that. Don’t keep me waiting, though. I really want to see you.” He says in a sexy growl.

I nod my head. “Okay. I won’t. Bye.” I disconnect the call, grinning like a fool. Maybe Conlan’s the answer to getting over Mathias.

“Who’s Conlan?” Mathias gruffly asks.

I shake my head with a scowl. “No offense Mathias, but I don’t think that’s any of your business.”

Rising for his perch, Mathias moves closer and grasps my shoulders. His eyes glow like liquid silver, and his jaw is tight with rage. “Who’s Conlan?”

Confused, I try to push away from him, but he’s too strong. “Are you serious right now? Let me go, Mathias.”

Instead of letting me go, he pulls me closer. At this point, we’re standing nose to nose. The only sound you can hear is the sound of our heavy breathing. I don’t understand why he’s so angry. He’s the one that rejected me.

A shiver of desire crawls up my spine as our bodies grind together. His voice is deathly calm as his breath caresses my temple. I don’t understand what is happening, but something inside of me likes his dominance. It makes me feel like he cares. “I don’t want to have to ask again, Cassia. Who’s Conlan?”

Looking beyond his shoulders, I lick my lips. “He’s a guy I met a while back. Actually, he’s a wolf.” Mathias’s nostrils flare, and his eyes focus on my lips.

“Did he touch you?” He asks in a hostile voice. I’m too stunned to move. Almost as if I’m trying to calm a wild animal down, I answer in a steady voice. “No, he hasn’t.”

I can feel his breath on my face when he says, “Good,” and kisses me. Our lips meet in a passionate lock. My arms are suddenly free to wrap around his neck, and his arms wrap around my waist. It’s a hot, delicious kiss filled with desperation and unrestrained desire. Our tongues search and duel, and our harsh breathing mingles as we strain to get closer. Moaning with pleasure, I run my hands down to his chiseled chest and memorize the crevices and contours of his abs and chest. Sliding my palms across his abs, I touch his velvety skin and caress my fingers up his narrow waist until I reach his broad back. Growling with desire, Mathias lifts me up and wrap my legs around his waist.

The kiss deepens as he places me over a desk near a window. My folds flutter as a heavy molten weight settles inside my stomach. Grinding against his zipper, I mewl as my clit makes contact with the rough material of his jeans, my juices soaking my panties. Pleasure courses through my sheath with every bump as sweat gathers on my skin. My thighs quiver and my body is overly sensitive. My clit throbs and swells the closer we get. I just want to come. Mathias’ pleasured sigh whispers across my lips as he moves his mouth down to my neck and covered breasts. My nipples tingle and tighten with need, making my sheath contract. I feel empty inside. I need him to fill me. I’m nearly mindless when he lowers the strap of my dress until it falls to my waist. Gazing down at the tight cherry buds of my nipples, Mathias rubs his hand over my thigh, kisses the center of my breasts, then swirls his tongue around my erect nipples. Crying out with bliss, I throw my head back and close my eyes tightly when he pushes my pussy closer to his groin and sucks my nipple deep into the hot cavern of his mouth. “Oh, god.” I moan as every suck makes a spark of ecstasy shoot down my womb.

Clinging tightly to his shoulders, I lick his neck and groan when his hand traverses down to my stomach until he reaches my soft mound and caresses it gently. Our mouths fuse back together, stifling my cries as we eat at each other. His perfect lips slant over mine, and his tongue devours me. Grinding my sheath harder against his hard cock, I undulate my hips and tighten my legs around him. Clinging to his neck, I gasp as my body prepares to burst. Mathias’ hands mold against my breasts as he slams harder against me.

I’m almost to the edge when the sound of something falling loudly nearby snaps us out of our blissful reverie. Mathias instantly stiffens and pulls away as if he was scalded by my touch. A look of guilt quickly replaces the pleasurable expression on his face. My heart falls like a lump of coal. How could something fall apart so quickly? Licking my swollen lips, I try to catch my breath and swallow hard when he runs his fingers through his hair in agitation.

Choking back tears, I pull the dress back up my chest and wrap my arms around my waist. Mathias clears his throat, lowers his hands next to his thighs, and gruffly mutters. “I’m sorry, Cassia. This was a mistake. This shouldn’t have happened.”

Without another word, he turns to retreat to his room, but I don’t let him walk away this time.

Stepping in front of him, I block his path and mutter through clenched teeth. “No, Mathias. You’re not running away this time. You don’t have the right to treat me this way. You’re the one that kissed me.” I push his chest, emphasizing my anger. “You seem to think that it’s okay to be jealous over a guy, then tell me that you don’t want me. Well, let me tell you something, I’m a single woman who reserves the right to be with whomever I want. And If you don’t want me, then you have no right to object over another guy who wants me. So do me a favor and stay the hell away from me from now on!”

I try to make a dramatic exit and walk away, but Mathias stops me before I can.
