109 Leo

I had gone back to assure the other kids that they would be okay. I felt the need to, especially after one of them watched her sister get shot. Thankfully, Rhea was there to stop them from witnessing me shoot the man who did it.

I went on one knee to be able to talk to the sister of the dead girl. She wasn't saying anything so I took out my handkerchief and wiped the blood of her sister off her face.

I got up from my kneeling position and turned around to meet Mae standing halfway to the car and watching me. I wanted to smile at her but my cheeks felt too heavy to be lifted into a smile at the moment.

I helped Rhea and the kids into a car before planning to join Mae in the car. I turned around to start in the car's direction and saw a red dot traced at her. It was at the back of her head and then it retraced to her heart.

My heart skipped a beat."Mae!" I called out to her and began running to her but she turned around. The moment she did, she got shot.

I stopped running. I was just a few inches from her. I was so closed to covering her from the bullet. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and was about to fall but I hurried and hugged her to stop her from falling.

She was shaky, her lips trembling with fear; the same fear I felt holding her like that. She grabbed onto my shirt as a tear left her right eye.

I looked around to try and know where the sniper came from but I couldn't so I picked her up and rushed her to the car. I placed her in the back and started the car.

I turned my neck around to check on her even while I drove to the hospital like a mad man. She was trying to sob but only ended up coughing out blood.

"Someone help!" I carried her in my arms as I entered the hospital. Soon, some medics hurried to us with assistance. She was rushed into the emergency room and I was locked out.

An hour later.

Mae was still inside the emergency room with the doctors going in and out of it from time to time.

"Excuse me, sir, your phone has been ringing. If you're not going to take it, please mute it, for the sake of the others here." A young nurse approached me.

I nodded and took out my phone from my pocket. I hadn't heard it ring before because I was lost in thoughts. It was Pete calling. I picked it up but didn't say a word.

"Sir, I found one more person in the environment." He informed me as soon as I picked up the call and the first thought that hit my mind was the sniper.

"A sniper?" I asked him.

"Yes sir."

"Is he alive?" I wanted to punish him.

"No sir, I killed him while we fought." I sighed at his reply. I would have loved to kill the bastard myself."And I also found something surprising about him and the others."he added.

"..." I said nothing, hinting him to go ahead.

"They had badges on them, sir."

"What?" I became more attentive.

"The sniper was from the FIA; he and the two others who shot at us from the upper floor of the building."

"..." I went mute again. I was trying to understand and comprehend the information he just gave me.

"Sir?" Pete called to me from the other side of the phone but I cut the call and got up from where I sat.

I got into my car and raced to City S' FIA headquarters. If I was correct, Omar sent those men there. He knew the bargain was going to happen between Pete, Rhea, and the trafficker, and he sent some people there.

His men were there when the trafficker shot the child and they did nothing. And like that wasn't bad enough for the day, his sniper shot Mae.

I slammed my car door and headed into the building. I saw the person behind the desk at the entrance get awed and scared by my presence at the same time before placing a call, probably to inform Omar.

I exited the elevator that led to Omar's office and saw one of the security still receiving the call informing him of me.

"Sir," he tried to stop me but I ignored him and walked on towards Omar's office.

The moment I put my fingers around the door knob to open the door, I heard them cock their guns behind me. I turned my neck to them and dared them to do what they were trained to but none of them did.

With that, I opened the door leading to Omar's office and met him on a call, back faced to me as he sat on a swiveling chair. I walked into the office and his securities came in after me, guns still pointed at me.

Omar turned around slowly and smiled when he saw me, and I swear, I've never felt so urged to ends anyone's smile. He signaled his securities to lower their guns and leave, so they did, though hesitantly.

"Leo..."

"Did they let you know that they watched him kill the child while they were still alive?" I asked him before he said anything more.

"What are you talking about?"

"What am I talking about?" I raised my brows. I knew I joked a lot but he had to know when I was serious as hell."You sent men to survey the grounds of a traffick business of mine, no?"

"..." He stopped smiling.

"They fucking stood by and did nothing while that son of a bitch shot that girl! What order did you give them? Not to show themselves till I arrived there and they got a picture of me there?!"

"I had no idea it was a traffick deal..."

"They fucking shot Mae!" I cut him short."Your sniper shot her! And he was aiming for her heart, did you order that too?! Did you ask them to kill her?!"

"Calm down, Leo..."

"Don't fucking ask me to calm down! She's in the hospital now, and they're still operating on her..." I paused for some second to breath."If the doctors don't give me good news, you are dead man, Omar." I told him as plainly as I could.

He blinked when I told him that."You are threatening me, a senior official of the FIA in my office?"

"Just pray she's fine. If she's not, I'll make sure I kill you in this office." I told him finally before walking away. His securities were still waiting outside the door.
