Chapter 8

He was running his hands down her body. Her heart knocked against her chest as her excitement heightened the tension in her body. She was taut as a bowstring being pulled. The liquid warmth pooling, then overflowing between her thighs made her pull him deeper into her, her arms and legs around him holding on for dear life. She widened her thighs as his hips pumped into her warmth. His hard length in her like a piston pumping into her, stretched her walls.

He felt so good!

‘Oh yes’. She moaned into his ear.

She bit her bottom lip at his answering groan, then bared her teeth in a feral moan as he seemed to go deeper into her core.

“Sweetheart…”

Someone was shaking her, trying to take her mind away from the excitement happening to her, and in her.

“No, no.”

She could hear herself moan.

The shaking increased urgently, making her think it was in part due to their mutual orgasm as she could feel her body clench in ecstasy.

She screamed in ecstasy.

“What the eff…?”

He sounded shocked, Brett recoiled as she opened satiated eyes to his beloved face.

“Snap out of it. Are you okay?” His voice sounded frantic.

“Whaa…?”

Groggy, but satiated, she stared into his gorgeous face, as it loomed over hers in the dimness of her room.

His eyes were concerned, worried.

“Did you….?”

She stopped her question just in time, as she became aware he was fully clothed, and so was she.

‘Oh, my goodness!’

She had been about to ask whether he had come. She had been dreaming of him making love to her. This would not do. This was crazy.

Had he read her thoughts as she slept?

Did he know what she was thinking now?

It didn’t seem like he was aware of them as he asked in a hushed whisper.

“Was he here?”

His face was terrifying in its murderous intent.

She looked at him in bewilderment.

“Who?”

“That asshole demon that can’t leave you alone.” His voice showed his anger.

“Oh, him.”

‘Heck. How the fuck am I going to get out of this one?’

Her thoughts were a-whirl but the one sure thing she was aware of was, she was not going to admit she had been having a crazy sexual dream about the two of them. The dream that made her scream out in ecstasy.

“Wait. What? I caught the tail end of that. What ecstasy?’

His eyes had changed. They were deep and sensual now.

Or was that just a trick of the light?

Her imagination?

“It was nothing. I was just having a dream.”

“A very erotic one by the sound of your moans.” He teased, but he looked interested, and something else. She wasn’t going to analyze the ‘something else’.

“Don’t be silly.” jerky way. Her laugh sounded forced. She was anxious to push the episode aside. So, she continued.

“I think I’ll get up and make a cup of cocoa.”

He watched her, not moving off the bed when she tried to slide out. It stopped her. She wasn’t about to test her control if she had to brush up against his body. All she wanted to do right now was to jump his bones.

But she couldn’t do that.

He had made it perfectly clear she didn’t excite him. He didn’t want her. She had to get that through her head.

But her body wasn’t cooperating.

It still wanted him, even though she had been satisfied in her dream.

No, scratch that. She craved him.

Her body hadn’t received the memo that he didn’t feel the same way as she did.

“Don’t look at me that way.”

He groaned softly. She jumped.

“What way?” Her hungry thoughts must have shown on her face.

“That way.” Was his face closer to hers?

‘Like I want to eat you…?’

She couldn’t stand the close proximity any longer. Especially when her thoughts were still centered on their dream sexual encounter.

She kissed him. Without volition. She was hungry and thirsty. She wasn’t going to stand one more minute of this cat and mouse game.

She was taking and damn it all to hell.

He swallowed her moans as he groaned, then pressed her down onto the bed. His body covered hers. She wanted him naked against her.

Both of them, naked.

Locked in ecstasy.

That was her last drowning thought as he took over from her.

Bliss!

‘If all angels made love like this, then I hope I make it to heaven.’

She heard him chuckle.

‘That will only happen with this angel’ He growled.

Then he groaned huskily, as she moved against him.

“Please don’t stop…”

She cried out as he moved down her body.

They were both naked. She didn’t know how that had happened.

It felt good to have his naked hot body against hers.

‘Never.’

Then aloud.

“Oh no, Darling, I don’t intend to stop now.”

He groaned, as she moaned into his mouth.

“I need you in me now, please…”

She was drowning in bliss.

He was all muscle, hard, powerful, and sexy.

She felt him in every pore. He was the essence she needed to survive.

The yin to her yang.

‘Oh yes right there. Please don’t stop.’

He was pushing into her now.

‘Oh boy, you feel so good. So huge and hard and hot. I’m dying! God…yesss’

Too breathless to speak, she used her mind to communicate.

Or rather, screamed out her ecstasy.

Much, much later, surfacing from the best sex she had had in years, she felt humbled and shy. It had been steamy, emotional, mind blowing.

He blew her away.

She was a goner.

‘Oh man. I have never felt shy before in my life after sex. But this has been the best.’

Brett looked pleased as he raised his head to peer down at her.

He grinned.

“Seriously?” He said aloud.

When she nodded, abashed, he laughed out loud.

“I am truly flattered, sweetheart.”

He tilted her head to him with a hand under her chin, then kissed her.

His eyes were soft as they locked onto hers.

“I loved that. It was amazing. The best for me too, babe.”

Startled she looked back at him, searching for something, she knew not what. He had always called her sweetheart, never babe.

‘This was a step up.’

She forgot her mind was still open to him. Quickly trying to think of something mundane, she was too late to divert his query.

“Step up from what, babe?”

The question was idle as he traced his finger over her cheekbones then down to her lips. Abandoning that, he then lowered his head to trace his lips over them instead. Then the tip of his tongue slipped in between them.

She shivered.

Melted.

Heat pooled. He scrambled her brain. He was mesmerizing and alluring.

“Step up from what?”

His words were more demanding. She knew his shrewd mind had worked out what she meant, but he still needed her to admit it out loud. Her silent stalling tactics hadn’t worked.

She couldn’t avoid the question when he asked a third time.

“Just that you’ve never called me babe before. It was always sweetheart. So, is this a step up or down?” She tried to joke. His eyes didn’t change but they became serious.

“I think you know the answer to that.”

Swiftly he pulled away. He sat up, to swing his feet to the floor. He then sat with head bowed. Running a hand through his hair, he finally turned to her.

“This was not supposed to happen.”

Her heart sank as his words registered. His eyes were a dark somber black. He looked troubled.

“I have been trying to stay away from you for so long. I thought I could handle it. But obviously, I’m too weak where you’re concerned. Succumbing to my feelings for you has compromised the mission.”

“What’s going to happen now?”

She waited in trepidation, dreading the answer.

“Sasha may have to take over guarding you, or maybe some other angel. I have compromised this operation enough as it is.”

His face looked grim. He was gritting his teeth. His eyes looked suddenly tortured, torn.

“But I don’t want anyone else, just you.” She protested; her voice choked. She had just found him and here he was thinking of leaving her. This was bullshit.

“I know, babe. But this is not up to me.”

He looked pained.

“If they find out what happened here, they will be forced to reassign me elsewhere. It’s just a matter of time until they do if I stay with you. And it will happen because I can’t keep away from you.”

He reached out to touch her cheek with a finger.

“Even now my body is in turmoil.”

“But we can stay away from each other, if that’s what it takes to keep you with me.”

Nina was desperate. All she wanted was to have him by her side. What he could do, no one else had ever made her do before. And that was to make her feel safe. What he made her feel no one had ever made her feel before. Which was to feel loved. With absolute love. With no hesitation. And no prejudice. That was a love she did not want to lose.

Even though he had not told her he did, she knew he did with absolute certainty.

“I need you with me.”

She pleaded with desperate hope.

“Only you make me feel safe.”

Her trust in him was absolute, strong, and steady with no wavering.

“Can’t you make an exception?”

He looked wretched at this point. “Babe, I can. But I will not be able to stay away from you.”

Hopeful, she moved closer to him “Then please stay with me.” She begged desperately as she sensed him wavering.

“Oh, babe, I am weak where you’re concerned.”

He cupped her cheek. “But if anything happens that endangers you, you will have to accept someone else to guard you.” He warned, a grimness in his voice and face.

“I guess.”

She was happy she still had him there beside her.

Her elation was banished with his next words.

“But, no more of this.”

Indicating their persons, and the surrounding bedroom with his head, he went on.

This thing between us is strong, but we have to stop. I am breaking the rules as it is. You on the other hand, are not. But you don’t want this complication in your life as it is.”

“But…” She started to appeal.

“No, buts.”

He was terse and stubborn in his denial of her appeal.

“I am following the rules from now on. I ask that you respect my decision.”

He stood stoic and unyielding. His face drained of all expression.

All angel now, he stood tall, dressed in his angelic apparel. It had happened so fast that she was left reeling. Some form of angelic magic he had performed to be dressed that fast. His suit was made of some metal that encased his upper chest over a blue tunic with a metal-like skirt encasing the bottom part of his body ending at his knees. There was a sword at his waist in a sheath. A shield hung at his back.

She could only stare at him in stunned silence as he turned to walk out of the bedroom.

“I will wait for you in the lounge.”

He tossed that over his shoulder as he exited.

Stunned, Nina sat there.

Not able to comprehend what just happened, she stared blankly into space. Her mind teemed with thoughts, unfocused.

Nothing she could grasp.

Hurt was uppermost in the emotions roiling in her heart. Grief at his callous disregard of her feelings.

Then rage took over.

The urge to hit back at the cause of her pain took center stage. It got her lurching to her feet.

Pride stiffened her spine.

He wasn’t going to see a cowed woman. She was going to shower, get dressed, then go out there. Pretend like nothing had ruffled her.

‘I am a good actress after all. How many years have I been pretending to be normal, when there hasn’t been anything normal at all in my experiences?’

It was a good thing her mind was closed to him. She had done that deliberately when the argument had escalated.

She had to get to work as well!

It was lucky the dream had been in the early hours of the morning. She would be on time.

He was seated on the lounge watching TV when she came out twenty minutes later, dressed for work. Glancing at her set face, he kept quiet. She grabbed an apple from the fridge on her way to the door. Then picked up her bag from the kitchen counter with her keys.

She sensed him follow on silent feet behind her.

She knew where he was through the sensory tingles of awareness on her skin.

She would always be aware of him whenever, or wherever he was in close proximity to her by the electricity pulsing between them. People could be packed in a room, but she could pinpoint where he was in that crowd. It took all of her strength to keep away from him when it exerted such a strong pull on her.

Trying not to think of the events that had just transpired, she got onto the train. Choosing the last car, she went to sit in the front, expecting him to sit behind her.

But he came to sit beside her. She glared at him, then looked away when he glanced at her, the grim look on his face causing a hesitation to her impending outburst.

“Why are you shutting me out?”

She hadn’t expected that. It floored her. His voice sounded frustrated, torn.

‘Nope. We’re not going there.’

Nina was glad she had shut him out of her mind.

“I don’t owe you any explanations. If you’re guarding me, then do so. Don’t talk to me.”

She was still raging mad.

At this point, she did not care if he got someone else to guard her. It was too painful to see him. As well as that, she felt ashamed of her weakness for him. Her desire to get back at him consumed her thoughts. It was now a constant caustic burn in her heart.

Her thoughts were bitter, as she sat through that excruciating train ride. Uppermost in her mind was the thought that she had allowed him to see her weakness.

“Don’t be mad at me. This is to safeguard you. Nothing has changed in my feelings towards you.”

“I don’t want to hear your explanations either.”

She cut him short.

“Trying to explain to you is like hitting my head against a brick wall.”

His frustration showed on his face when she chanced to glance at him out of the corner of her eye. She wasn’t buying any of it.

She saw things in black and white.

He didn’t want her, period.

The rejection hurt.

But it was final.

To her.
