Chapter 22 he didn't know
Chapter 22 he didn't know
Madelyn’s P.O.V.
I looked at Oscar questioningly when he raised his voice while speaking that word.
He was confused and shocked, which made me jerk my head backward in confusion.
“Yeah. Investments. Is something wrong with that?” I asked him in confusion, resuming my work.
I guess I hit my head somewhere today. That’s why I am so nice to Oscar, my biggest bully and the one who hurt me so badly that I had to stay at home for five days.
I am even cooking dinner for him.
I admitted that his appearance in the elevator startled me to death, but with Easton's apartment here, Oscar's presence wasn't that big of a deal. The way Oscar was relaxed, I understood that he had been here before, too, but I didn't know if he knew about me or not.
“Yo… you are a scholarship student in our school, Maddie. Do you know what it means?” he asked me angrily, but I could still feel that he was in a state of disbelief.
I put the bowl down with a thud this time, anger bubbling up in my veins.
“A scholarship student is the one who takes a test with thousands of other students to get an exemption from the tuition fee only. There are other benefits too, but for that, the students need to go through other tests too. Anyone can give this exam, whether they are from a poor background or a rich one, especially for our school.” I explained the simple fact that all of them didn’t know, I guess.
“You… you mean.” He tried to speak but was shocked to utter a word. His eyes widened in shock and realization.
“Yes. I mean, what you understood from my statement, Oscar. Our school conducts thorough investigations on every student who registers for the scholarship test. It also includes their financial background.” I explained flatly while preparing the herbal soup that I thought about preparing for him.
Did I really lose my mind that I am doing labor for him?
I was now really doubting my present mental state.
“So…. So, you mean to say th… that our school never lets any poor student enter our school?” he questioned again, and I felt like losing my patience.
“Did you not get the key point here, Oscar?” I asked him angrily, and he knitted his brow.
He was angry now, but more than that, he was still curious.
“Anyone can give the scholarship test, no matter how better or worse his or her financial condition is. Their financial situation gives them some points, I agree, but if you are intelligent enough to get the first place in the exam, you can earn that scholarship. I got first place, and hence, I got the scholarship.” I explained, and his eyes widened in shock.
They always think that getting a scholarship means that you are financially poor.
They never paid attention to what exactly a scholarship is in our school.
Although the relaxation in the tuition fee is a big relief for any student from a middle-class family or from a poor family, other expenses are still too high to be afforded by them.
“Apart from getting relaxation in your tuition fee, you need to take care of other expenses on your own. Do you really think that other expenses are easy to take care of for a poor student in our school?” I asked him sarcastically and lit up the stove.
He didn’t answer, and I didn’t look at him.
“So….. so you are not poor?” He asked me after some time; his voice was completely different from his arrogant tone.
“My grandfather retired as the vice president of National Highways, and my grandmother retired as the principal of a well-reputed school. My father, before he died, was working as the senior assistant director in an MNC. What do you think my financial status should be?” I didn’t mean to brag about things, but after surviving that attack from him, I had decided not to let them walk over me anymore.
And this conversation became the best opportunity to make him understand that I wasn’t as poor as they thought I was.
“So, you have money too?” he mumbled, and I laughed sarcastically while shaking my head lightly.
“My grandmother was also an investment advisor, Oscar. Mrs. Olivia Froste. You can search her name, and you will know what she was when she was alive. She is the one who taught me about investment.”
I was still nonchalant in my tone, but I was really hoping in my heart that it would stop him from attacking me again.
“Now go, and freshen up. The soup will not taste good if it gets cold.” I instructed him seriously.
I had no desire to speak more than this. If he gets the message that I don’t want to talk to him anymore, then I will be grateful for his intelligence.
“O…. okay.” He mumbled in a daze and walked out of the apartment. I slowly craned my neck in his direction, surprised by how obediently he agreed and walked out.
I shrugged it off and continued cooking the soup.
I learned medicinal dishes and soups for my grandmother when her health started deteriorating.
Tomorrow is Saturday.
School off.
That’s why I went to school today: so that I could submit my assignments and also get all the stuff that I will need this weekend.
I also submitted my transfer request. I didn’t want to stay in the same class as them. We had the same homeroom class.
After leaving the soup to simmer on a low heat, I walked out of the kitchen and went to the couch.
I took my laptop from the coffee table and opened it.
Tonight, Maximum was going to upload a modified version of his last module, and I had been waiting for that eagerly.
My investment interest was because of my grandmother, but after learning Maximus’ first module, it became a passion, and now I am so excited because he is my subject mate too.
My phone started ringing in my pocket while I opened the page where Maximum is supposed to upload.
I took it out of my trouser pocket and picked up the call without looking at the screen.
“What did you say to Galvin? He is so scared that he didn’t get out of his room after coming back from school.” Stella asked me amusingly, and I frowned.
“I said nothing to him. I just mentioned to him that BrightEye Institute inquired about him.” I told her innocently.
“What?” She shrieked so loud that I pulled the phone away from my ear to save my eardrums.
“What did you say? Say it again.” She asked in the same yelling tone.
“Stop yelling, Stella. You almost burst my eardrum.” I grumbled while bringing the phone close to my ear cautiously.
“Oh my god, Maddie! Tell me that I heard wrong. Tell me that you didn’t mention BrightEye Institute.” She asked while laughing hard this time.
I smiled smugly and wriggled my shoulders happily while recalling Galvin’s face when I mentioned it to him.
