Chapter 20 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 20 Untitled Chapter
Oscar’s P.O.V. (Continued)
Although his apartment wasn’t in a top high-end area, the security was strict, and the facilities were good.
“Your mom again?” he asked me indifferently after picking up the call.
“Just inform the security there, Easton,” I grumbled angrily, tightening my grip on the wheel.
“You should also buy a unit there. The place is quite nice.” Easton suggested to me in the same tone.
I grimaced but didn’t say another word.
“Do you have anything in your fridge?” I asked him in the same tone.
“Nope. Nothing to eat, but yeah, you can find water, Coke, and beer.” He replied to me, and I rolled my eyes in frustration.
“Just order a takeout, bro. Or you are so pissed that you want to burn my kitchen. Don’t forget that it’s a studio apartment.” He remarked teasingly.
“Did you inform them?” I asked him, ignoring his remark.
“Yeah. You are good to enter. You know the password, but I am still sending it to you. Do you want me to bring your bag and uniform in the morning, or will you go back?” He asked me in a concerned tone.
“I will go back in the morning,” I told him and hung up.
I had no desire to talk more.
Moreover, I was about to reach the apartment premises.
I looked at the road and the sidewalks.
People from all walks of life were moving on here and there.
Some are laughing with the person beside them. Some were arguing with the person beside them or over the call.
Some just walked absentmindedly, their shoulders hunched down from the weight of the burdens that they had from their lives.
Everyone thinks that rich people have a good life because they have money to solve every problem and bring all the luxuries of life.
But I wish I had been born in a middle-class family instead of being born rich.
I have money and power, but don’t have the love and care of the family.
My mother’s ambition didn’t let me have a normal childhood.
I was raised by nannies, but none of my nannies worked for more than two years.
My mother didn’t let them stay that long.
She said that I shouldn’t be attached to the lowly people like them.
What she didn’t know was that those nannies were my only means of getting comfort and care that I should have gotten from my mother.
Even if they were paid to do that, they did that wholeheartedly.
For them, I was an earning source, but they still gave their genuine care to me after spending a few months with me.
I stopped my car at the entrance of the apartment and waited for the guard to open the door.
The guards opened the door, and I drove the car inside the premises. After parking my car in the parking lot, I walked towards the escalator.
I stopped in my tracks and narrowed my eyes when I saw a familiar cycle standing in the section where people can park their cycles only.
My phone was still in my hand, and my other hand was thrust inside my pocket.
As I said earlier, this place wasn’t in a high-end area, but it was still costly.
What is her cycle doing here?
I dialed Easton’s number while walking towards the escalator, still looking behind me from time to time to ensure that I didn’t see wrong.
“Now what?” Easton grumbled after the call connected.
“By any means, Maddie also lives here?” I asked her in a confused tone.
“Yeah. She has her own apartment on the 10th floor. What? Did you meet her?” He replied to me but asked hurriedly.
I raised my brows in surprise when I processed what he just said.
“She is a scholarship student in our school, Easton. You want to say that a scholarship student has money to buy a unit in this society?” I still questioned him mockingly.
He chuckled this time. I entered the elevator and pressed the button for the 35th floor.
“Yes, my dear friend. She has been living here for more than three years. Not only this, but she also had three more properties in different areas and the property that her grandparents left to her, which is worth millions.” My eyebrows shot up to my hairline in surprise.
At the same time, the elevator door opened again at the ground floor. The parking lot had two floors in the basement.
I blinked when Maddie appeared in front of me, holding two carry bags, looking at me with a baffled expression.
“Hey, girl. Come on in.” A woman in jogging clothes appeared behind her and rushed Maddie inside the elevator.
Maddie entered the elevator hurriedly with that woman, but I could see fear in her eyes.
“She is not poor, Oscar. She has enough money to live a comfortable life, and Galvin told me today that Maddie also invests in the stock market.” Easton continued telling me more about Madelyn.
It was a good thing that I had lowered the volume. So, no one could hear what he was saying.
“Your friend, who lives on the 35th floor, are you close to him?” the woman asked Maddie at the same time, while the elevator continued ascending.
Easton stopped talking at once.
“No, I am not close to him, Lisa,” Maddie replied to the woman in a low voice.
“But you two are in the same school. I have seen him in the same school uniform as yours.” Lisa argued with Maddie, which irked me.
“We are in the same school, Lisa, but it doesn’t mean that we must be close, right?” Maddie replied to her calmly.
Her voice was oddly calm and casual.
I had never heard her speak so casually.
“Right,” Lisa mumbled and looked at the door again.
Maddie was balancing the bags in her hands, but I noticed that she wasn’t comfortable with her right hand.
I hung up and pocketed my phone. “Give it to me,” I asked Maddie. She flinched harder and looked at me over her shoulder.
I was standing behind them.
“You ….. you know him?” Lisa asked, sounding alert this time.
“Uh…. Yeah. We are classmates. You don’t need to worry about that.” Maddie replied to her hurriedly, but couldn’t relax her body.
I took the bag from her right hand and looked at the elevator door when it opened again.
We all walked out of the elevator.
“Hey, young man. It’s already late at night. I don’t think that it’s a good idea for you to carry things to her unit. Give me the bag.” Lisa stopped me while speaking calmly.
“It’s okay. I am not going to stay.” I assured her indifferently while looking at Maddie.
“Are you going to stay in Easton’s unit?” Maddie asked me calmly.
I glanced at Lisa and saw her knitting her brows.
“Yeah,” I answered her in the same tone.
“But he doesn’t have anything to eat in there,” Maddie remarked, sounding concerned.
I groaned in frustration and closed my eyes when I remembered that I forgot to bring something to eat.
