Chapter 18 agree to join the club
Madelyn’s P.O.V. (Continued)

Damn…..
I blinked harder, my breath hitched, and all the heart-shaped balloons burst around me.
God!!!!!!
How this happened.
The owner of these eyes was none other than my idol.
I can’t believe that I am in the same class as him.
He was Maximum Blackwood – a teenage investment prodigy. He had invented so many modules of investment for various industries and all of them had a one hundred percent success rate. He was also the youngest co-CEO.
And also the person whom Stella mentioned earlier.
“What is he doing here? He has already finished all the credits that he needs to graduate from the school. Damn him. He is the coldest and the meanest person I have ever seen.” Stella kept on mumbling in a fearful tone, but I was just starstruck and kept on looking at Maximus.
He looked away and closed his eyes.
“What are you guys doing outside the class?”
“Aaahhh.” Both Stella and I screamed in terror when someone yelled at us from behind.
I almost dropped my bag on the floor in fear.
“What the heck, girls? Am I that scary?” Math teacher Mr. Riley Collins yelled fearfully while patting his chest.
He was a short, bald man in his early fifties.
“You scared us, Mr. Collins.” Stella yelled fearfully, patting her chest. I also patted my chest to calm myself down.
“Move to your class," Mr. Collins grumbled and stormed inside the class.
“I….. I am going to my class now.” Stella grumbled and stormed away.
I also moved towards the class but couldn’t take another step when my eyes met with his green eyes again.
The heat rushed to my cheeks at the very instant.
Great….. just great….
Embarrassment made me feel like crawling to any hole nearby to hide myself.
“What are you waiting for? Do I need to print an invitation card for you?” Mr. Collins yelled at me, still angry with what happened a few seconds earlier.
I clutched the strap of my bag tightly and lowered my head. I walked straight to my seat but stopped abruptly when I realized that it was already occupied.
I didn’t notice earlier, but Maximus was sitting on my seat.
Holy hell!!!!
He was sitting on my seat!!!!!!
“What now?” Mr. Collins barked at me again.
“Hey… come here.” I was about to tell him that my seat was occupied when David yelled in a hushed tone from his seat.
My feet went cold.
I love math, but sitting with a math psycho like David?????
Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?
Or did I see something unpleasant the first thing in the morning?
“I need to start the class, Maddie.” Mr. Collins yelled at me again, making me flinch again.
I immediately ran in David’s direction and sat down at the empty seat beside him.
I heard a few snickers around me that only made me blush more in embarrassment.
“Did you finish those books?” David asked me in a hushed tone when I was taking my book and notebook out of my bag.
Mr. Collins started the session at the same time.
“Yeah. I have already submitted back to the library.” I told him in a hushed voice and opened my book.
“Then what did you think about joining the math club?” he asked me expectantly, excitement evident in his voice.
I didn’t want to join math club but didn’t have the heart to say no to David.
After Stella, he was the only one in the school who treated me well and always helped me with my assignments, especially math assignments.
“Ummm…. Let’s talk about it after the class?” I suggested with a small smile, looking at him with puppy eyes.
He grinned widely and nodded happily.
I looked back at Mr. Collins but sighed in my heart.
Forget it. There is no harm in joining math club.
It’s not like that David is going to crucify me there.
So far now, I am a member of both the economics club and the art club.
Joining math club isn’t that bad, right?
True to his love for math, David didn’t disturb me again during the whole class.
We both got busy with the problems that Mr. Collins gave us to solve.
Yet I sneaked a few glances in Maximus’ direction from time to time.
He was sitting lazily on the seat, holding his pen in his left hand.
The amazing thing about him is that he can use both his hands.
He was also busy solving problems, but not like us, almost running our hands on the paper.
“Concentrate on solving problems.” David scolded me in a hushed tone, nudging his elbow into my hand.
“Sorry.” I mumbled and immediately looked back at my notebook.
I seriously got distracted by Maximus. For the rest of the class, I concentrated on my work.
“So, have you decided?” David asked me excitedly after Mr. Collins left the class.
I looked up and saw Maximus also going out of the class.
“Uhhhhh… David.” I spoke hesitantly and cleared my throat before looking at him again.
His smile faltered, but hope had filled his gaze.
“You know that I am also an active member of the economic club and the art club, right?” I asked him calmly, and he immediately bobbed his head furiously.
“So, it’s possible that I won’t be able to attend all the events or meetings if I join the club. Are you okay with that?” I asked him calmly while explaining my concern about joining the club.
“But you will join the research work and the competitions, right?” he asked expectantly, and I smiled widely this time.
He had twenty members in the math club, but none of them were researcher material.
“Definitely, but no pressure about joining the institute, okay?” I agree but put my condition on too.
“Deal.” He beamed so brightly that I almost saw stars falling out of his eyes.
“Then I will be at the club after lunch to fulfill the formalities.” I told him while standing up.
“I will wait for you.” David beamed once again and stood up with me.
I laughed while shaking my head and walked towards the door.
I wonder what clubs Maximus had joined, as it was mandatory for all the students to join a club or two. A few students here are part of five clubs.
“Someone is getting cozy with that math nerd, huh?” I stopped in my tracks when Galvin remarked sarcastically.
My jaw clenched and I tightened my grip on the bag strap.
Here we go again.
“What? Do you think that he can save you, huh?” He added with the same sarcasm, but an idea popped in my head.
I slowly moved in his direction and saw that nasty smugness dancing on his lips. I forgot that Galvin is also in the math class.
“Actually, he is looking for brilliant students to join the Brighteye Institute, Galvin. And I found you a perfect fit for a math researcher. What do you think?” I asked him excitedly, pulling the same excited expression as David.
