Miscarriage
Miscarriage
Myra slowly opened her eyes, and they fell on some bandages down the length of her arm.
As she stared at the bandages, she remembered the fall.
She gasped, just as the door opened at that moment. She expected to see Cal, but instead her parents walked in.
She looked around for something she could use as a weapon, not feeling safe one bit around this demon and his wife.
Her father sat beside her on the bed, while her mother covered her own mouth with her hand as her shoulders shook in silent tears.
Her father reached his hand out, and Myra flinched, but his hand touched her hair and began to smooth it back.
“My beautiful, brave girl,” he said gently. “You really went the extra mile to do your duty. Pregnant?” He smiled sadly.
Myra froze as she stared at him. How did he know?
What the hell had been going on all this time she was out, how long had she been out?
“I am so sorry.” Her mother came forward and took her hand. “I never expected you to go through what I did. I never thought you would have to suffer losing a child.”
Myra’s eyes widened, “What? What are you talking about?”
Her mother’s hand flew to her mouth again, and Myra frowned, her eyes falling on her wrist.
“I thought you knew. “I am sorry. I didn't mean to break the news to you like that.”
“It’s for the best. I could never have a Dankworth for a grandchild,” her father said. “I will make sure that bastard pays. Whether he is still a professor or not, their whole family is going down.”
Myra stared at them, barely understanding what they were talking about, her brain lagging, finding it hard to follow the conversation, her ears ringing as she suddenly became aware of the pain in her abdomen.
The baby was gone?
It stayed all these weeks despite her stress and active lifestyle and it was gone now?
She had not fallen so hard, had she?
Where was Cal? Was he blaming himself? How did her parents get here? Did he see them?
The door flew open, and her eyes jumped to it immediately, expecting it was Cal, but instead Aiden walked in.
“How could you do this to me, Myra? How could you cheat on me just a few months before our wedding?”
“Now is not the time for this, Aiden,” her father said without looking back as he continued stroking her hair, and Myra could only stare like she was a zombie, and she had somehow stepped into an alternate world.
A horrible nightmare of a world where nothing made sense.
“With all due respect Chief, you don’t expect me to take such blatant disrespect from my fiancé.” Aiden responded harshly, and her mother gasped.
“It was one thing to dangle her as sx bait for an old man, but this? This is ridiculous.” Aiden snapped.
Then he turned to Myra, “You think I will forgive this easily? How could you do this to me?”
The door flew open again, and Myra sighed in relief because it definitely had to be Cal this time.
He had to clear this up. The baby could not be gone just like that.
“Get out,” Greg said, walking up to Aiden, and everyone in the room turned to look at him in shock.
“Are you crazy?” Aiden yelled in disbelief. “Who do you think you are?”
Greg looked the most vicious she had seen him, more vicious than both times they had fought.
“Get out now, or I will beat your face in and will not stop till you croak,” Greg said, his face red and swollen with rage.
“Sergeant Sullivan.” Her father called quietly and finally stood up.
But Greg did not even turn.
“Can you all see this?” Aiden said, looking around with wide eyes, “or am I simply hallucinating? Why the hell do you think you can butt in and talk to me like that?”
Suddenly, he paused and stepped back.
“No, don’t tell me.” He shook his head, his eyes wide in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you are fucking her too?”
Greg swung so quickly that anyone hardly saw it.
“She is my sister, you dunce.” He roared as Aiden crashed to the floor from the punch.
Her mother gasped beside her, and her father brought the heel of his palm to his forehead.
“Tyson, what is he talking about?” Her mother’s eyes turned to her father, who obviously did not look as surprised as a police chief should have been when one of his officers claimed to be his only daughter’s brother.
Myra pressed the button on the side of her bed and began to lift her bed.
As much as she would have loved nothing more than to watch her enemies crash out, all the people who had betrayed her turn on each other and fight bloody, she could not afford to.
She did not have that luxury of time.
She had a bad feeling in her chest that something was wrong. And this feeling squeezed her more tightly the longer she did not see Cal.
This was very unlike him.
The Cal she knew would be by her bedside when she woke up.
She began to climb off the bed, but all four people in the room seemed too busy to notice and stop her.
“I asked you a question, Tyson.” Her mother yelled, startling Myra so badly she slumped back to the bed as she realized she was bleeding, and she had a sanitary pad on.
That was definitely a sanitary pad.
Her eyes widened. No, she really lost her baby.
“Don’t yell at me. It’s not my fault you did not recognize your own son.” Her father shot back, just as Aiden finally seemed to recover from the punch and hurried up, crashing into Greg, and they began to fight.
Myra looked at all these people who were too concerned about themselves to care for her, or that she had just experienced the biggest loss of her life.
She wanted to yell at them, to hurl anything her hand could touch at their head till they all ran out of this ward.
“What did you just say?” Her mother was looking at her father in disbelief.
And Myra took her phone, and yanked the IV needle out of her hand.
She winced as a bit of blood sprayed everywhere, making her dizzy.
