Chapter 62 Knock! Knock!

Chapter 62 Knock! Knock!
I quickly took out the card so that I could see what it said. Although it was long written, The handwriting was so familiar that I could hear Mr Mattias voice so clearly as I read through it.

DEAR SHIMMA,

I’VE SPENT TOO MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS THINKING ABOUT US, ABOUT HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED BETWEEN US, AND I CAN’T BEAR THE THOUGHT OF LOSING YOU. I KNOW YOU’RE HURTING, AND I’M SORRY FOR THE PAIN MY ABSENCE HAS CAUSED. I NEVER WANTED IT TO COME TO THIS, BUT THE TRUTH IS, YOU ARE MY OBSESSION.

YOU ARE EVERYTHING TO ME, AND I REFUSE TO LET ANYONE, EVEN YOUR PARENTS, DICTATE WHAT WE HAVE. OUR LOVE IS STRONGER THAN THEIR OPINIONS. WHEN YOU TOLD ME WE SHOULD END THINGS, IT SHATTERED SOMETHING DEEP INSIDE ME. I NEED YOU TO UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL NEVER LET GO OF WHAT WE HAVE. YOU ARE MINE, AND I AM YOURS, FOREVER.

I’VE SENT YOU FLOWERS AND THAT NECKLACE NOT AS APOLOGIES, BUT AS A PROMISE. A PROMISE THAT I WILL FIGHT FOR US, NO MATTER THE COST. I WILL ALWAYS CHOOSE YOU, AND I WILL ALWAYS COME BACK TO YOU. PLEASE DON’T DOUBT MY LOVE FOR YOU; IT’S CONSTANT AND UNWAVERING, EVEN WHEN THE WORLD TRIES TO PULL US APART.

I’M HERE, AND I WILL ALWAYS BE HERE. LET’S NOT END THIS. YOU ARE MY LIFE, SHIMMA.

YOURS ALWAYS,

MATTIAS

Scene: Shimma’s Living Room

I sat on the couch, the letter from Mr Mattias clutched tightly in my hands.

Tears kept streaming down my face uncontrollably as I thought about how much I wanted him. “How am I going to move on from this?” I whispered, my voice cracked from crying too much.

I felt this ache in my chest, an unbearable one, a longing that consumed fucking me.

Suddenly, a knock echoed through the house, jolting me from my thoughts. My heart raced heavily, Could it be Mr Mattias? It has to be him.I thought, quickly wiping my tears and standing up.

I rushed to the door, anticipation flooding my veins, But when I opened it, my heart sank. It wasn’t Mr Mattias, Standing there was my mother, her face etched with concern.

“Mother? Wh—what are you doing here?” I asked, the disappointment heavy in my voice.

She stepped inside, glancing around the living room before her gaze landed on my tear-streaked cheeks. “I came to check on you, Is everything alright?” she said gently, a frown on etched across her face.

“How did you even find my house?” I asked, ignoring her question, becoming even more confused.

“Aunt Malisa directed me here,” she replied, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

A frown crossed my face. Aunt Malisa didn’t even know where I stayed. ‘Are they watching me?’ My heart raced at the thought.

“Who owns those?” she asked, stepping further inside, her voice laced with curiosity.

I turned back to the flower , the necklace and the letter! No! Not the letter!

I swallowed hard, trying to gather my thoughts. How do I stop her? What do I tell her?!….

My mind raced as I glanced at the letter again, the flowers, and the necklace.

“Wait! Are you seeing someone already?” my mother asked, her tone filled with excitement as, stepping closer.

I felt a rush of panic. I had to conceal the truth.

Thinking quickly, I rushed in front of my mother, turning my back to her as I faced the flower, pretending to be interested in the flowers. “Oh, No, they’re just... um, a friend from work sent them,” I stammered, hoping my voice didn’t betray the lie.

My mother’s gaze was now fixed on me as she took in my tear-streaked cheeks. “A friend? Okay, but why do you look like you’ve been crying.”

I sighed, forcing a smile. “I’m okay, really. Just had a long week.” Uncomfortable, I shifted on my feet, quickly taking the letter from the couch just before her eyes could meet it.

Desperate to change the subject, I said. “Would you like some water? You must be thirsty.”

“That would be nice, dear,” she replied, her concern slightly easing.

It wasn’t like I wanted her in my house, but her finding out about Mr Mattias again….Things would only get worse.

As I walked toward the kitchen, I felt my heart racing. I grabbed a glass and filled it with water, placing it on a small tray along with a napkin. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.

I wanted to return back to the living room, but then I remembered the letter, staring at the waste bin, I couldn’t toss the letter inside. Instead, I kept it inside one of the Cabinets.

Returning to the living room, I set the tray down on the coffee table, careful not to make eye contact with my mother. “Here you go,” I said, handing her the glass. “How did Aunt Malisa even find my house? I never told her where I stayed,” I said. going to take a seat across from her.

My mother took a sip, her eyes scanning the room. “She has her Way, you know her husband has connections, finding you wasn’t a problem for her and her husband. But waking up one morning and deciding to leave was a strange thing to do,” My mother said, taking another sip before returning the glass cup back to the table.

I didn’t respond, instead, I ignored her because she didn’t deserve an explanation.

Yet, she smiled, like she didn’t even care to know what my reason was.

I could see a hint of pride in her expression as she scanned my house. “Your place is lovely, by the way. So cozy!”

“Thanks,” I muttered, feeling the warmth of embarrassment creep into my cheeks, knowing it was nothing like my real home. “I’ve tried to make it feel like home.” I mumbled, my voice barely above a whisper.

“Good. You deserve to feel at home, especially with everything going on.” Her voice softened, and I could sense that she was about to broach a delicate topic. “I hope you’ve been thinking about moving on. There’s no need to hope on him again, he’s not coming for you, and trust me, he has moved on also.” My mother said, she was referring to Mr Mattias. This why I didn’t want her here. Fuck.

“Mum, I’m not ready for this right now,” I said, closing my eyes as I tried to control my emotion.

My mother leaned forward, her expression earnest. “Shimma, you deserve happiness. Mr. Mattias... I just worry he’s not right for you.”

“Why is that? You haven’t given me a solid reason,” I said, trying to mask my growing unease. “What’s behind all this? Why do you and Dad want to keep us apart so bad?”

Her eyes darkened momentarily, and I could see the weight of her thoughts. “It’s complicated, honey. Your father has his reasons. He just wants to protect you.”

Before I could press further, a sudden knock echoed through the house, causing my heart to skip. I froze, my mind racing. ‘Could it be Mr. Mattias?’ Panic surged through me. What would my mother do if she found out that he had come for me?—that he knew where I was.

“I guess someone is at the door?” my mother said, her eyes darting toward the door.

I hesitated, tension and uncertainty enveloping me.

Please let it be someone else. Please!…..
