Chapter 44 Trouble.
We drove into our compound. I quickly stepped out of the car, running straight into the house.
My mum was seated in the living room. Her eyes lit up as she saw me.
“Shimma, you're back so quickly,” she said to me, but I ignored her, running upstairs to my room.
I closed the door, leaning against it as I slid down, grabbing both my knees to my chest. I can't believe this is happening.
As I sat there and cried, I noticed I had left my phone in the car. I needed to speak with Mr. Mattias. I needed to know if this was really the end.
I got to my feet, making my way downstairs. I noticed my dad was on a call with someone, but strangely he was using my phone. And he was yelling. What the hell?
“I need you to stop calling my daughter. Mattias, this friendship is over. Stay away from my family. But mostly, stay away from Shimma. This is your last warning,” he said, hanging up.
My mother, who had a confused look, asked, “What's wrong?” My father was about to respond when he turned to me as I approached him slowly.
“Dad, I need my phone,” I said, stretching out my hand, but my dad didn't hand my phone to me. I frowned.
“Dad, I said I need my phone,” I repeated.
“I will hand your phone to you if you agree to block and delete Mattias's number from your phone.”
“Dad! Haven't you done enough?! You asked him to stay away, and you still want me to delete his contact? He is my boss! How do you want us to communicate?” I growled. My father frowned.
“And who said you are going to continue that job? First thing tomorrow morning, I will be handing him your resignation letter. I told him to stay away from this family, and I was clear about that.”
“This is so unfair,” I said, slowly making my way back upstairs. I could feel my legs tremble, like my whole world was shaking, and I couldn't do anything about it.
As I made my way upstairs, I overheard my mum asking him what had happened. He began to explain.
“I walked in on Mattias making out with Shimma. I mean, can you believe that?!” my father grumbled.
“What?!” my mother gasped. “Tell me it's not true,” she said as I hurriedly closed the door behind me, tears streaming down my face.
It hurts. It hurts so much knowing that I was right about my feelings. My parents would never let me be with Mr. Mattias. But I foolishly ignored those feelings.
If I had stopped from the start, I wouldn't have even begun anything at all. But how could I when my heart yearned so much for him?
I walked over to my bed, taking a seat as I tried to figure out what to do next. How could I leave without Mr. Mattias?
Suddenly, I noticed a loud noise coming from my bathroom. What was that? I stood up, heading toward the bathroom.
I slowly opened the door, peeping inside when my eyes landed on Mr. Mattias as he struggled to fit through the window. My eyes flew open in shock.
Once inside, he approached me before I could say anything, giving me a tight hug.
While he hugged me tightly, I felt my shoulders slump as I relaxed in his arms.
“Shimma, no one is going to take you away from me. I promise,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
“H—how did you get inside? My father ordered the gate guard not to let you in anymore,” I said, surprised. He released me from his hug, looking down at me.
“I have my ways. And I'll do anything just to see you. I'm not letting go. Never,” he said, beginning to take my lips when I jolted at the sound of a knock on my door…
“Shimma! Can I speak to you for a second?” I heard my dad say. I turned back to Mr. Mattias.
“You need to leave,” I said. He frowned.
“Why? You can ignore him. I just want us to talk right now,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I can't ignore him. I mean, I forgot to lock the door, and he can come inside any moment now,” I said, panicking.
“Shimma, I am coming in,” my father said as I heard my door gently open.
“Oh God, I'm in trouble,” I muttered, breathing heavily as I quickly opened the bathroom door, closing it swiftly and leaving Mr. Mattias inside my bathroom.
MR. MATTIAS'S POV
I watched Shimma walk out of the bathroom to the room where Derry was already waiting for her. I pressed my ear to the door so that I could hear their conversation.
“I was calling you. Why weren't you responding?” Derry asked, but Shimma still didn't respond.
“Shimma,” Derry hissed softly.
“I know you're mad. But believe me, I want the best for you.”
“Then why are you against my relationship with Mattias? If you want the best for me, why can’t you let me be with him?” Shimma said, her voice shaky as if she was about to cry.
I never intended for things to go this way. I simply fell in love with my best friend's daughter. What crime had I committed then?
“Shimma, Mattias is older than you are. And not just that. I know his kind of women; you’re not his type,” Derry said. Hearing this, I clenched my jaw, holding back the urge to walk up there and tell him this is not just about my type. This is love, and Shimma is the only one I see.
I took a deep breath, letting out a heavy sigh as I tried to control my temper. Revealing myself would not only make things worse; it would also put Shimma in even greater trouble.
“Dad, I’ve had enough of you. I need you to leave my room, leave my life—whatever, just go!” Shimma cried out.
I shut my eyes as I felt my heart ache. Why do things have to go this way?
“Shimma, I promise you. You’re mine forever; I’m going nowhere,” I whispered. Still leaning on the door when I mistakenly pushed a bottle of soap from its position. I watched it fall to the ground the sound causing both Shimma and her father to be silent.
SHIMMA'S POV
“What was that?” my father asked, his gaze facing the direction of the bathroom.
“It’s nothing. Just go,” I said, wiping my tears.
Slowly and quietly, my father began to approach my bathroom.
“Dad, what are you doing?” I asked, my heart racing because my father was about to see Mr. Mattias in my bathroom.
“Who’s hiding there?” my father asked, about to open the door.
“No one is there. Please leave my room,” I said, but my father ignored me. He went ahead to open the bathroom door, revealing…
