Chapter 35 Playing With Fire…
LUCAS'S POV.
I knew it! I fucking knew it. I knew something was going on between them, it was so obvious. The day at her office, when he knelt down so close to her. his protectiveness towards her, his sudden cold mood whenever he sees the both of us together. I knew it.
This is sick! how could he? How could he do this to his best friend's daughter.
I couldn't stop pacing back and forth around my office. Running my hand in and out of my hair in frustration, anger. rage burning inside of me.
I can't tell why I am this mad but I am. He is older than she is, I mean the age difference is clear. What ever they think they have together, it's not going to work, it can't, Shimma is better off with me, I know it.
“What do I do now?“ I mumbled, still pacing around confusedly when the door to my office swung open, revealing Mattias, his expression, cold, as usual.
“Lucas, what was that about?“ He questioned.
“Don't come here, making me look like I am the Villain,”
“Lucas, you are crossing your boundaries, I let you work for me, and you choose to disrespect me in return?“
“Mattias, I am not disrespecting you, trust me, I'm not, It's just that it's wrong,”
“What's wrong?“ Mattias asked, folding his arm. He seemed quiet relaxed than I expected.
“Your relationship with Shimma, she's too…,”
“And who gives you the right to tell me who is best for me, who gives you the audacity to dictate who I should at shouldn't be with?“ Mattias cut me off. Okay I guess I was wrong. He wasn't in any way relaxed.
“Mattias, deep down, you know it, he Father is your best friend, I am certain her wouldn't approve of your relationship with Shimma,”
“And how are you sure he doesn't already know,” Mattias said, I giggled.
“I'm not a fool Mattias, if her parents knows about your relationship, you wouldn't be hiding,” I said, Mattias scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“Lucas, I am trying to be calm here, I am trying to know why you're so pissed concerning I and Shimma's relationship, be it a secret or not, you shouldn't be involved in my affairs,” Mattias said. He was right, it wasn't my concern. But I still can't help it. This doesn't feel right.
“You really don’t get it, do you?” I snapped, my voice sharp.
“This isn’t just about you and Shimma. It’s about loyalty. Trust. You’re betraying your best friend!”
Mattias’s calm look faded, and his eyes narrowed.
“And who are you to talk about betrayal, Lucas? It seems like you're forgetting what you did years back, oh! Wait, just because I brought you back, picking you up from the mess you put yourself, and the mess you almost got me into, makes you think I have forgotten all you did? no Lucas! do not talk about loyalty, you're in no place for that…” Mattias shot at me.
“But…” I tried to speak but he cut me off too quickly, releasing both folded arms.
“No buts! Lucas, from today hence forth, I do not want you to get involved in my affairs, you're here to work for me, and that is it, do not make me do something you wouldn't expect, do not push me!“ Mattias said, turning to walk out of the office.
“So you're just going to keep hiding Shimma from everyone,” he froze on his track, his backing me as I continued.
“knowing fully well that that her parent's might not even approve of your relationship. You know this is not going to work, yet you're trying to force things against your power,”
He slowly turned to face me, fists clenched, eyes locked on me. The tension in the room felt suffocating. My heart raced as I took a few steps backward, trying to distance myself before he unleashed his anger on me. I didn't want that...
“Mattias, hear me out. You’re my big brother and my boss. I wouldn't want to go against your will or partake in your business, but… I just don’t want you to hurt her,” I said, softening my voice. Maybe that way I wouldn't get him too pissed.
Mattias glared at me, anger flashing in his eyes. “Hurt her? You think I want that? You don’t know anything about us!” he said, his voice firm. I shook my head. “I don't need to know everything, but what's certain is that Shimma deserves someone who respects her family. You’re playing with fire.”
Mattias took a deep breath, his face hardening as if he was trying hard to control the rage burning inside him. But I would do anything to get to the root of this. I would do everything to make sure he sees that what he has with Shimma is just a lustful desire, not love.
MR. MATTIAS.
This is crazy. I can't stand here and watch Lucas tell me what my relationship with Shimma should and shouldn't be. He knows nothing.
I looked straight into his eyes, about to speak, but I held my words. How long would I continue to go back and forth with someone whois clearly against us because of his selfish wants? Fool…
I turned back to the door as I took my leave. Of course, he had nothing else to say…even if he did, i was done listening.
I left straight for my office, and that was when everything he said began to hit me.
“So you're just going to keep hiding Shimma from everyone, knowing fully well that her parents might not even approve of your relationship? You know this is not going to work, yet you're trying to force things against your power,” Arghh! I couldn't stop hearing those words.
I banged my hands against the table, wanting to scream out loud in frustration.
I slipped my hands in and out of my hair, anger and frustration bubbling inside me. I shouldn't let this get to me. No! Lucas is wrong.
I'm not hiding Shimma; we are just taking our time. Like she said, when the right time comes, we will both tell her parents. There's nothing wrong with what we are doing. I am just simply yet madly in love with her, and I don't think it's a crime. It doesn't matter who she is to me—my best friend's daughter. It just doesn't matter. Fuck!
As I stood there, contemplating my feelings and the risk this might cause for both of us, I heard a knock on my door. I turned to the door, a frown still plastered on my face. “Come in!” I yelled, waiting to see who it was.
I watched the door open, my eyes flying open in shock.
Standing by the door, to my surprise, was Emily—my ex!
