Chapter 24 Commotion.
I picked up the phone as the name on the screen made me gasp….
I picked up the phone. Waiting to hear the bastard's voice. And at the same time, wondering why he called.
“Hello, Sh—Shimma,” Blake said. I can't believe I have totally forgotten about this jerk.
“What is it Blake?“ I asked.
“Uhmm, it's been a while. I haven't heard from you for almost a week now,”
“And how is that supposed to be your problem?” I asked.
“You're still mad at me. Shimma, I already said I'm sorry,”
“Look, Blake, this should be the last time you call me, in fact, you know what? I guess it's high time I block your number, maybe that way you wouldn't have the audacity to call my number again. Fool!“
“Sh—Shimma, please, give me a chance, please I just…,” I didn't let him finish, I hung up the call.
“I guess he is sorry,” I jerked in fear, turning to see my mother leaning by the door. This woman can be creepy at times.
“Mum, you scared me. And what did you just say?“ I drew my brows together.
“I said, I guess he is sorry,”
“Who?“ I asked.
“Blake of course, I heard your conversation with him. Shimma, you both are still young, and you're both bound to make mistakes,”
“What are you insinuating?” I asked my mother, folding my arms.
“Don't get me wrong Shimma, I am only asking you to give him a listening ear. Who knows, he might have actually learnt his lesson,” I scuffed, rolling my eyes.
“Mum, as you can see, I am just returning from work, and I am so exhausted, I would appreciate it of you don't bring up Blake's topic, ever again,”
My mother paved the way for me as I walked past her. But she said something that made me freeze on my tracks.
“I invited him over for dinner tomorrow,” I slowly turned to my mother.
“You did what?“ I shot at her.
“He called me, and we both talked for a while. I am only doing this for your own good,”
“My own good? Did I ask you to? Or did I tell you I wanted him back. Mum, please stop pretending like you're doing it for me when it's obviously for you,”
“Shimma!“
“Yes, it's all for your benefit, just because Blake comes from a rich family, doesn't mean I would depend on him. There are other men out there, besides, I am with someone already, so please, tell Blake not to waste his time coming, because I am no longer interested,” I continued my steps as I headed downstairs, to the dinning.
On my way to the dinning, my mum couldn't stop rumbling behind me.
“Shimma, you said you're with someone, who is he? Where did you both meet? Does he work at your office? What does he do?“ Shimma, don't ignore me, tell me!“
“Mum, please, I don't want to talk about it,” I said, opening my plate of pasta and meat rolls. Beside it was my fruit salad, and a glass cup of grape juice.
Just as I was about to eat. The door opened, and my father walked in….
Just as I was about to eat. The door swung opened, and my father walked in….
I dropped my fork, standing up to greet him. But as I approached, a frown settled on my face. Something was off.
My father was always the one to light up a room, even after a rough day. No matter how worked up he might be, he’d always greet my mother and me with a smile. But today was different. He walked past us as if we weren’t there, his expression clouded with something I couldn’t quite place.
This was unlike my father, he would never walk past I and my mother like he had just done. What is wrong? Is he dying? Are they getting a divorce? Did he loose something important to him? I really want to know!
“Dad,” i mumbled. But he ignored, taking the stairs as he made his way up stairs. I turned to my mother. He lips were curved downwards, worry filled her eyes as she looked away from him, her eyes landing on mine. She immediately switch her frown into a smile. Although it was obvious she wasn't happy at all.
“He must have had a bad day, Why don't you eat up, I'll go check on him,” she suggested, her voice steady yet strained. I forced out a smirk, that was the most I could do. I made my way back to the dinning table, but, my appetite to eat had vanished completely.
I couldn't seat there amd stare down at my food. I needed to know what was wrong, I needed clarity….
I tiptoed my way up the stairs. Getting to my parent's room, I halted at the front of the door, leaning to place my ear so that I could hear them properly.
MR DERRY AND MRS ANNA.
Mrs Anna made her way up stairs. Walking into their bedroom Just after Mr Derry did so.
“Derry what's wrong? You've been like this since yesterday, yet, you feel it's right to keep it to yourself?“ Mr Anna lamented.
“Look Anna,” (hisses softly as he runs his hand through his hair)
“I do not have the strength to nag, so just let me be, as you can see, I just go back from work. It's been a long day,” Mr Derry saidnas he walked into the bathroom.
“You want to be left alone? Fine! You can handle whatever you're going through alone. Just like you always do,” she snapped.
She opened the door to leave. She caught Shimma standing right in front of the door. She was listening to their conversation. Although, there weren't any conversation because Mr Darru wouldn't speak to her.
“Shimma, i thought i asked you to finish up your food?“ She asked.
“Yeah you did, but I was worried that i lost my appetite. Is father okay?“ Shimma asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Like I said, He might have just had a bad day. Let’s give him some space and talk tomorrow, okay?” she replied, though Shimma could see the doubt in her eyes, she nodded slowly, . Even if she wasn't quite convinced by her mother's words.
Shimma ended up not eating dinner. She That night, She laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering what could possibly be wrong with her father. She had never seen him like that before.
She wished she could wake up the next morning to find everything back to normal—her usual happy father, the one who would hug her and kiss her good morning, not the shadow she had seen today. She never wanted to see that look on his face again. Never!
