228. SUICIDE MISSION

228. SUICIDE MISSION
~ODETTE

A smile slowly settled on my face at Camille's decision.

“No!” Viktor cried out, killing my smile.

Before I could say anything he grabbed Camille's hands. And the worry that danced in his eyes, made me pause.

“You can't seriously accept this! What if Azarel hurts you?” he let out.

"I don't see another way, Viktor… this is all we can do for our children…” Camille replied.

As I watched their exchange, I felt a tug of amusement on my lips.

The two of them certainly had more going on in their hearts.

But as much as I was enjoying their banter, the world needed me to act— and that included dragging them to perform their roles!

“Then it is settled!” I exclaimed, clapping my hands to ultimately gain their attention as I began to walk. “Camille will pretend to run through the barrier.”

“Won't that draw the boys?” Viktor asked.

“Obviously that's the goal,” I said with a roll of my eyes. “Once they bring you to Azarel, I'll keep him distracted and you will have the window to attack.”

“That should work,” Kalista whispered in that same annoying tone that appeared distant rather than present.

Once again, I controlled irritation.

“Since you all agree to this, I think I have no other choice then,” Viktor growled under his breath. “I’ll provide backup… just in case.”

“Perfect. I expect everyone to get into positions then,” I said, already moving back to the main building. “The sooner we get over this the better.”

They all follow my lead and begin to move too. But I noticed Kalista stopping to glare behind her. Again.

I was going to yell some sense into her when Camille took her hands and her words made me frown.

“Are you still having that feeling?” She asked her.

Kalista nodded, while my frown deepened— What was going on?

Even Viktor went ahead to check behind us as if there was someone there. But of course, there was no one.

My eyes narrowed at them.

I wanted to ask them if she had been having this premonition for long, but I changed my mind. It was better if we focused on the task at hand first.

That was the priority. Every other thing could come later.

"Come on, we can come back to this later. We need to set this mission going, the world doesn't have an eternity!" I dismissed them and went straight to Azarel.

Minutes later, I got there and as expected, he was in the throne room basking over the lands he had acquired.

The boys were mindlessly hurdled in a corner, waiting for his next orders.

My irritation grew at least ten folds, but I bit down on my teeth and walked up to Azarel with all the poise I possessed.

Sensing my presence, he turned to me with a suspicious glint in his dark eyes.

“My love… where have you been?”

“I’ve been planning and plotting ways to kill you,” I replied as I stopped right before him.

The tension in his jawline instantly faded and he threw his head back in laughter.

“Oh Odette…” he pulled me closer to him and let his cold fingers caress my cheeks…

Then his hold tightened as he leaned into my ear.

“I know what your dear partner, Dahlia is currently doing in my head,” he whispered.

My insides flip but I maintain my poise.

“I know that she is currently setting the boys free from their perfect prisons…”

“Does it scare you?” I snarled, refusing to let his threats shake me.

He pulled away from me and flashed me his evil smile.

“No my love. It doesn't scare me…” he whispered. “If anything, I need you both to know that all of that is pointless… because the moment Cassius is set free, everything will reset once again—”

My frown deepened on my face as his words grew eerily colder.

“—they will all be separated and imprisoned again… you know why?— because I still have full control of my mind and the convergence… nothing can stop it.”

My eyes narrowed in defiance but within me, I felt the threat heavily.

What he said meant that we were working with a time loop. We could be bound to fail...

But, thanks to that witch, Kalista, we had something Azarel wasn't aware of.

The vial!

My defiance glowed even brighter and I laughed.

Azarel instantly frowned. “You still think you can beat me?”

“As long as I live, I will not relent until I find a way to destroy you, Azarel!”

“Uuh, such fire!” Azarel exclaimed, his eyes dilating with excitement as he watched the anger on my face.

And like a mad man, he grabbed my neck and slammed his lips over mine.

My body stiffened in irritation and I tried to push him away. But he snapped his fingers, suddenly forcing my body into obedience.

I stilled, unable to push him... and unable to kill him as he deepened the kiss.

I felt his elongated teeth graze over my lips before they began to descend to my skin...

Ever so slowly, they moved to my neck.

My pulse quickened as I could already read his next move.

With all my might, I prayed that Camille would have gotten the message by now and reacted.

But the goddess had turned deaf to my prayers.

Time slowed and I watched as Azarel brought his teeth closer.

I could already feel the sharp ends of his teeth over my pulse, when he suddenly stopped—

His head snapped to the corner where the boys were mindlessly sitting.

Then he snapped his fingers at them. Immediately they jumped onto their feet and hurried away.

My heart flipped with excitement because this could only mean one thing— Camille was rolling and Azarel had taken the bait!

“Odette, what have you done this time?” Azarel suddenly asked as his dark eyes returned to me.

I tried my best to keep my face as emotionless as possible. But watching Azarel confused was something I couldn't help feeling good about.

“You have something to do with the person who just tried to pass my barrier, don't you?” He growled.

Again, I tried to stay blank.

“I have a feeling that this person… is no ordinary person…”

At this point, the smile I tried to hide, cracked to the surface. “Well, Elder Azarel, you and I will just have to find out once the boys return… isn't it?

His dark eyes narrowed.

But before he could poke for more answers, the boys did return and they were not alone.

They dragged them to Azarel. And as he set his eyes on their face, he let out a cold chuckle…

“Hmm… the one and only, Camille… the woman who made all of this possible…”
