Chapter 93: Did Not Get Pregnant
"What's wrong? Your eyes are red." Tristan cupped Harriet's face. "Whatever it is, tell me."
Just as Harriet was about to speak, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her lower abdomen.
She doubled over in pain, her hands pressing tightly against her aching stomach.
"Harriet, what's wrong?" Seeing her nearly fainting from pain, Tristan instinctively scooped her up in his arms.
The wound on his lower back hadn't fully healed yet. As he lifted Harriet, the wound seemed to tear open, making him wince in pain.
Tristan carried Harriet toward the elevator while calling out, "Someone! Get a doctor!"
There were other family doctors at the Lancaster Manor who quickly came to examine Harriet.
"I'm fine." Harriet's face was pale. "It's just my period. I'll feel better in a moment."
The female doctor said respectfully, "Mrs. Harriet Lancaster, let me help you to the bathroom to get cleaned up."
"I'll do it." Tristan instructed. "Go downstairs and have someone bring up some hot cocoa."
"Okay."
Tristan didn't move Harriet, helping her change into clean clothes right there on the bed.
After drinking hot cocoa and taking painkillers, Harriet slowly started to feel better.
Tristan gently stroked her hair. "Feeling better?"
Harriet nodded slightly.
Tristan touched her hair and smiled. "I tried so hard those few days, and you still didn't get pregnant."
Harriet froze.
They had actually been thinking the same thing.
Harriet forced a smile. "Tristan, do you know what I've been thinking since you got injured?"
"What?"
"I was thinking, how great it would be if I could get pregnant. Your body can't... we'll never be able to have children in the future. If I found out I was pregnant now, that would be so wonderful."
Guilt washed over Harriet. "Tristan, there's something I never told you. After leaving Cloud Bay before, I secretly took a morning-after pill to avoid getting pregnant. I really regret it now. If I hadn't taken that pill, we might have had a child."
Harriet held back her tears but couldn't help choking up. "Tristan, now I've got my period. The last hope is gone. We'll never have children in this lifetime."
Tristan held her. "Harriet, you're being too hard on yourself thinking like this."
Harriet's tears came flooding out. "I've ruined you, made you lose your sexual ability, made you unable to have children."
"We can still live well without children. The Lancaster family doesn't have a throne to inherit."
"But the Lancaster family has such a huge business empire. You can't be without an heir."
"Xavier will have children. You don't need to put this pressure on yourself."
The more he said this, the sadder Harriet felt.
This time, she truly hoped she could be pregnant.
Having a child would at least reduce Tristan's regrets in life.
But this was just wishful thinking.
Someone suddenly knocked on the door, and Iris's voice came through. "Mr. Tristan Lancaster, Mrs. Harriet Lancaster, Mrs. Haven Lancaster is awake!"
Harriet quickly wiped the tears from her face. "I'm going to see Grandma."
"You're not feeling well. It's enough if I go check."
"No, I won't feel at ease unless I see her with my own eyes."
The two of them went to the second floor and indeed saw that Haven had woken up.
"Harriet."
"Grandma." Harriet went forward to check her condition. "Your recovery is pretty good, but you can't get angry again."
"I scared you, didn't I?"
"Yes, so you absolutely can't scare people like this again."
"Okay, I'll listen to you."
"You must be hungry, right? Have something to eat."
"Okay."
After Harriet fed Haven some food, Tristan suggested going home.
"Go home and rest well. Tristan, take good care of your wife."
"I know."
The two returned to Cloud Bay. After a quick wash, Harriet lay down on the bed.
Tristan brought her hot water, and she noticed something off about the way he was walking. "Tristan, what's wrong?"
"My wound hurts a bit."
"Let me see it right now!"
Harriet lifted his clothes and found that the white gauze wrapped around his waist had been soaked through with blood.
"Your wound is bleeding!" Harriet cried out. "Why didn't you say something earlier!"
"It's nothing."
"Lie down quickly, let me treat it!"
Harriet carefully treated Tristan's wound, then suddenly realized something. "Did the wound tear open when you were carrying me?"
"I don't know."
"You're still lying to me?" Harriet felt heartbroken. "You endured it for so long, it must have really hurt, right?"
"I'm a man. This little bit of pain is nothing."
"Just lie still and don't touch the wound again, or it'll be hard to heal."
"Okay."
Tristan turned on his side and held her. "When you came back earlier, didn't you have something to tell me? Go ahead."
Harriet curved her lips slightly. "I just wanted to tell you that something happened with the Coleman family."
Tristan raised an eyebrow. "You mean about Nash having an illegitimate child?"
Harriet's eyes widened. "You actually know?"
"I've heard about it. In this circle, having a mistress isn't anything unusual."
"Does being rich mean you don't need to be faithful to your partner?" Harriet couldn't agree with this view. "In your circle, cheating isn't shameful because money can keep the mistresses happy, right?"
"Harriet, I didn't say that, and I don't think that way." Tristan explained. "For me, juggling multiple women is too exhausting. I wouldn't do it, and I don't want to do it."
"As for the Coleman family, their situation is special. Their marriage is a typical prince and Cinderella story. Flora has no family background, so she's bound to have a hard time in the Coleman family."
"So you also think Flora isn't good enough for Nash?"
"Other people's marriages have nothing to do with me." Tristan reached up and pinched her cheek. "I just need to take care of our marriage."
Harriet looked at him. "Tristan, actually I'm an ordinary person just like Flora. We're also prince and Cinderella."
"So what? Is there a problem?" Tristan said. "Didn't the prince and Cinderella end up together happily?"
Harriet smiled. "But do you think after Cinderella followed the prince back to the castle, would the king and queen accept her? Could they really live carefree?"
Tristan didn't speak, just gazed deeply at her face.
"What is it?" Harriet asked.
"I'm just thinking that such prime time really shouldn't be spent chatting about these boring fairy tales." Tristan kissed the corner of her lips. "Mrs. Lancaster, if my body was fine, I'd make sure you had no time or energy to worry about these meaningless questions."
Harriet's face couldn't help but flush. "You're talking nonsense again."
"How am I talking nonsense?" He raised an eyebrow. "We never used to waste a single night before."
Harriet's face grew even redder, and Owen's words suddenly came to mind.
He said Tristan had developed feelings from sleeping with her, and once the physical pleasure was gone, that tiny bit of feeling would disappear into thin air.
She really wanted to know the answer.
"Tristan." Harriet looked at him. "If it were another woman as your wife, you'd also have sex this frequently, right?"
