Chapter 83: Husband is Wealthy
Harriet froze. At the same time, she quickly diagnosed that the man lying in front of her wasn't sick at all.
They were faking illness to get into the clinic - they must have another purpose.
A flash of panic crossed Harriet's eyes, but she quickly calmed down and said, "What do you want? Please don't do anything crazy."
The man with the knife smiled coldly, "Don't be scared. We won't hurt you. We just want to ask you - how much is your life worth?"
Harriet said, "So you want money. I can give you all the money I have on me."
But these days, most people don't carry much cash, and they probably wouldn't care about that anyway.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, the man pretending to be sick sat up from the examination bed. "That little bit of money you have? We don't care about that."
Harriet asked, "So you want me to go withdraw money?"
"Cut the crap! How much money could you possibly have? We don't want that little bit!" The man with the knife threatened, "If you don't want to die, come with us!"
Harriet frowned slightly. "If I go with you, not only will you get no money, you'll have an extra burden. You have some other purpose, don't you?"
The man who had been faking illness smiled coldly. "No wonder you're Tristan's woman - pretty smart."
Harriet suddenly realized, "You want to kidnap me and then demand ransom from Tristan?"
"Exactly. You don't have money, but your husband is loaded!"
"I'm afraid you'll be disappointed." Harriet smiled faintly. "We're in the middle of getting divorced. Even if you kidnap me, he won't spend a cent to get me back."
"Really?" The man who had been faking illness looked at her suspiciously. "Is that true?"
"Of course."
"Doesn't matter." The man with the knife spoke up. "If it's really like you say, we can always kill you later. Come with us!"
"Listen to me!" Harriet analyzed calmly. "I may not have much money on me, but I can get my hands on a million or two dollars. I haven't seen your faces. You could take the money and leave - that's better than risking trying to extort me. Tristan really hates being threatened. He might call the police, and then you'll be in trouble."
"How thoughtful of you to worry about us." The man with the knife sneered. "Too bad trouble is the last thing we're afraid of! Stop talking and move!"
Harriet was forced to walk toward the door. After just two steps, a figure suddenly walked in from outside.
Tristan saw the scene before him, especially the knife at Harriet's neck, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
"Harriet!"
Never mind a knife - he'd been through gunfire before. He shouldn't need to be nervous.
But now, he wasn't just nervous - he was scared.
Scared that the knife would cut Harriet's neck, that she would die just like that.
Tristan's heart raced as he said, "Put down the knife. I'll give you whatever you want!"
"You're pretty popular - men coming to see you in the middle of the night."
Harriet smiled. "Looks like you two didn't do your homework very well. You don't even recognize the person you're trying to extort."
The two men looked at each other. "He's Tristan?"
"I am!" Tristan's sharp eyes locked onto them like a hawk's. "Put down the knife and don't hurt her!"
The two men immediately became alert and shouted at Tristan, "Throw your phone and wallet over here!"
"Okay." Tristan took out his phone and wallet and threw them on the ground. "If the money isn't enough, I can go get more."
"You think I'm stupid? Let you go get money so you can call the police right away?" The man with the knife said calmly, "Put your hands up!"
Tristan immediately complied.
The man with the knife gave his partner a look. "Go tie him up."
"Okay."
The man who had been faking illness immediately found some rope and walked toward Tristan.
The man with the knife kept his eyes on Tristan the whole time.
Harriet found the right moment, quietly took a spray bottle from her pocket, and sprayed it at the knife-wielding man's face.
He cried out in pain, instinctively letting go to cover his eyes. The knife in his hand fell to the ground, and he soon passed out.
The other man heard his cry and turned around.
Tristan immediately struck, subduing him in a few moves, then rushed over to support Harriet. "Are you okay?"
The knife had been so close to Harriet. When she made her move just now, the sharp blade had still cut her neck.
The bright red blood was especially striking against her slender neck.
Harriet raised her hand to press on the wound. "I'm fine. The cut isn't deep."
"I'll take you to the hospital."
"Call the police first."
"Okay."
Tristan went to pick up his phone from the ground to make the call. Out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly saw that the man he'd just subdued had somehow gotten up. He was holding a knife and rushing quickly toward Harriet.
"Watch out!"
Tristan had no time to stop him, but his feet instinctively rushed forward to shield Harriet.
The next second, the sharp knife tip stabbed into him from behind.
Tristan groaned in pain and turned to kick the man in the stomach.
The man fell to the ground and curled up, rolling around in pain.
Harriet turned around and saw that Tristan had been stabbed in the lower back - blood was pouring out!
Harriet's face went pale with fear. "Tristan!"
That knife should have hit her - Tristan had taken the blow for her!
"Tristan, are you okay?" Harriet quickly supported him, her whole body trembling with fear!
"I'm fine." Tristan held her shaking hand. "Don't be scared."
"I'm calling an ambulance!"
Harriet struggled to pull herself together, grabbed her phone, and dialed. Her fingertips were still trembling.
The police car and ambulance arrived almost at the same time. Harriet went to the hospital and waited outside the emergency room.
"Mrs. Lancaster!" Ryder rushed over. "I'm sorry, I failed to protect Mr. Lancaster. He's been in a bad mood these past few days and told us not to follow him, otherwise there would definitely have been bodyguards with him."
"It's not your fault." Harriet was in a daze. "No one could have expected this to happen."
"Mrs. Lancaster, you're injured?" Ryder saw her blood-covered neck. "Let me take you to get bandaged."
Harriet was worried. "I'm fine. I want to stay here."
"Then I'll call a nurse."
Ryder called a nurse to treat Harriet's wound.
The police soon arrived and took Harriet's statement that night.
It wasn't until the sky began to lighten that the emergency room door finally opened.
Harriet quickly stood up and approached. "Doctor, how is he?"
"The stab wound was quite deep, but fortunately he's out of danger. However, there will likely be some lasting effects."
Harriet's heart jumped. "What kind of lasting effects?"
"The stab was in the kidney area, and the damage wasn't minor. It's very possible that..." The doctor cleared his throat and said, "It may affect his sex life."
