Chapter 82 You Have Been Betrayed
Harriet replied coldly, "Tristan's business has nothing to do with me. You shouldn't be calling me."
Xavier immediately got angry. "You're Tristan's wife! Who else should I call?"
"You can call Lark. She's been dreaming of becoming your sister-in-law. They spent the night together last night. She's basically no different from your sister-in-law—just missing the title."
Xavier was stunned. "Are you serious?"
"I have no reason to lie to you. Please don't call me again."
After saying this, Harriet hung up directly.
She irritably tossed her phone aside and pulled the blanket over her head.
After a moment, Harriet suddenly threw off the blanket and stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.
After hesitating for a bit, she picked up her phone and placed a delivery order.
In a private room on the top floor of Opulence Club.
Xavier looked at Tristan's gloomy face and was very scared."Tristan, what Harriet said isn't true, right?"
Tristan's expression grew even darker. "What do you think?"
"Tristan, you've always kept your distance from women. Before getting married, you never got close to any other woman, and Lark was no exception," Xavier analyzed. "If you wanted to be with Lark, you wouldn't have waited until now. What would Harriet have to do with anything?"
Tristan took a sip of strong liquor. "Even you can figure that out, but Harriet refuses to believe me."
"She's got problems, and she acts like she's swallowed dynamite every day. I can't even be bothered with her," Xavier said disdainfully. "Tristan, let me take you home."
"What's the point of going back?"
Without Harriet there, he had no desire to return.
Xavier had a drink with him and said, "But Tristan, you never cared this much about Harriet before. Have you noticed anything strange lately?"
"What do you mean?"
Xavier looked serious. "I'm wondering if Harriet has cursed you."
Tristan looked at him like he was an idiot. "Asking you to come drink with me was a mistake. You can leave now."
Xavier was helpless."Tristan, I'm serious. Lots of people in our circle use these methods—all kinds of curses. If you don't believe me, I can explain it all to you."
Tristan drank irritably. "No need."
The door to the private room was suddenly knocked on, and Ryder walked in. "Mr. Lancaster."
"Speak."
Ryder said awkwardly, "Mrs. Lancaster just placed an order on a delivery platform. She bought emergency contraceptive pills."
Tristan's face instantly darkened like storm clouds.
Xavier was confused for a few seconds, then quickly caught on. "Tristan, you've been betrayed!"
Tristan's face grew even darker. "What did you say?"
"You're here, so why would Harriet need emergency contraceptive pills? The only possibility is that she had sex with another man and is afraid of getting pregnant, so she's buying contraceptives!" Xavier got angrier as he spoke. "This Harriet is too bold! You're not even divorced yet and she dares to cheat! Tristan, you absolutely can't let her get away with this!"
Tristan's temples were throbbing. "Shut up."
Xavier looked at Tristan, feeling like he was about to pass out from anger.
He swallowed and tried to comfort him. "Tristan, I know you're hurting. No man could accept this kind of thing. Don't worry, I'll definitely keep your secret!"
Ryder couldn't listen anymore and spoke up. "Mr. Xavier Lancaster, Mrs. Lancaster isn't that kind of person. She's taking contraceptives because..."
Ryder didn't dare finish, only looking toward Tristan.
Tristan smiled faintly. "She clearly hasn't taken contraceptives these past few days, but she still wants to minimize the chance of getting pregnant as much as possible. She just doesn't want to have my child that badly. As a man, if I can't even get my own wife to willingly have my child, aren't I a complete failure?"
Xavier looked at Tristan in shock.
So Harriet was taking pills because of Tristan?
And here he'd imagined a whole Infidelity incident.
But to make Tristan doubt himself—Harriet was pretty impressive!
"Tristan, women who want to have your children could circle the globe. What is Harriet to make you feel bad!" Xavier immediately pulled out his phone. "Just wait, I'll find someone to cheer you up right now!"
In the quiet room, Harriet was about to fall asleep when her phone chimed with a notification.
She opened Twitter and saw a video sent by Tristan's driver Kian.
Harriet recognized the location in the video—it was Opulence Club.
A group of scantily dressed women were lined up walking into Tristan's private room.
Kian also sent a voice message: "Mrs. Lancaster, please come control Mr. Lancaster! This is too outrageous!"
Harriet's heart felt stuffy and uncomfortable.
But what could she do? What right did she have to control him?
Harriet suppressed her inner turmoil and calmly sent a voice message back. [His business has nothing to do with me. You don't need to tell me.]
After playing Harriet's voice message, Kian looked awkwardly at Tristan beside him. "Mr. Lancaster, Mrs. Lancaster must be too angry, that's why she said that."
Tristan pulled at the corner of his mouth. "You don't need to make excuses for her. No wife could possibly not care about her husband finding a mistress."
Kian wanted to say something more but found he really couldn't make excuses.
Tristan strode away with his long legs. "Let's go."
After that day, Harriet never saw Tristan again.
It was as if those days at Cloud Bay trying for a child had just been a dream.
Harriet focused all her attention on work, staying late to study medicine even after everyone else had left.
Some people at the clinic had initially been skeptical, thinking that Harriet could only become Ian's student at such a young age because of her status as Mrs. Lancaster.
But seeing her outstanding abilities and hard work, they all became convinced.
That evening, Harriet practiced medicine as usual.
When she finally stopped, she realized it was already past 2 AM.
Harriet yawned, cleaned up her desk, and was about to turn off the lights and go to bed when someone suddenly knocked on the main door.
The sound was particularly jarring in the middle of the night.
Harriet walked forward and spoke through the door. "Who is it?"
"I need a doctor." A man's voice came from outside.
It was too late, and it was a man outside. Harriet was somewhat uneasy. "Sorry, the doctors are off duty. You should go to a big hospital."
"Doctor, please help!" the man outside pleaded. "My brother is dying. There's no time to get to a hospital. Please have mercy and save his life, doctor! I'm kneeling down to you!"
Harriet hesitated for a moment. Her caution couldn't overcome her medical compassion, and she pressed the door release button.
The rolling door slowly rose. Outside were two men wearing masks, one seeming barely conscious, leaning on the other to barely stand.
"Quick, help him inside!"
Harriet led them in and had the barely conscious man lie on the examination bed. While checking him, she asked, "What happened to him?"
The next second, a sharp knife was pressed against Harriet's neck. The man behind her spoke in a sinister voice. "Don't move!"
